Vintage Christmas Decor and Sunday Morning Coffee

I get asked all of the time if I have a plan when it comes to decorating our home with my vintage Christmas decor. What do you think?

Let’s just say I kind of have a plan. I have a lot of decorations and a lot of it is vintage Christmas decor. Plus I use a lot of times in my decor that isn’t technically Christmas. Let me share with you how I decorated our home for Christmas this year.

Season 2 Volume 46

Today I am pleased to share with you Sunday Morning Coffee. This is a place to share, learn, explain, dream, and have fun.

About Me

I love decorating for Christmas. Well, kind of.

I love decorating Christmas trees, especially our family tree with all of the ornaments we have collected for over thirty years. When we pull out the ornaments handmade by the boys it brings a rush of memories of Christmas crafts and years of holiday traditions.

I love all of the vintage Christmas decor I have collected and it is so easy to mix them with new and handmade decorations.

I also absolutely love our home when it’s decorated. It feels so festive and sometimes I wish I could leave up our decor year-round. Usually, our Christmas decor only lasts until the first week of January.

Christmas Kitchen Decor

So what is it that I don’t like about decorating our house for Christmas?

It’s hauling all of the stuff down from the third floor, going through everything, and then taking it down and hauling it all back upstairs again.

For the past few years, I have had the boys bring down all of the decorations for me and put everything on the back porch. This year I think we have about 16 large bins, six wreath bags, and six tree bags.

Remind me in January that I promised (in this blog post) to go through my decor bins and donate all of the decorations that I haven’t used in years. I cannot put everything back in the attic when there is a ton of Christmas decor I haven’t used in years.

So what’s my plan for decorating?

The first thing I do is pick a theme in the fall. (This year’s theme is a Pomegranate Christmas.) I usually buy a few items that fit the theme and then I make as many crafts as I can for the new theme. You can see the blog posts I wrote about the pomegranate theme here.

Usually, in late November, I start decorating. For some reason I always start decorating in the family room, and move from room to room, keeping the colors constant but making sure the rooms don’t look exactly the same.

I also keep in mind what I have done in previous years and I try not to do the same thing in each room. So I move trees around, change colors, and use all of the new holiday decor items I have made.

The one thing that is consistent about decorating and that is my love for vintage Christmas decor. I love these green bottles and I am quite obsessed with ironstone and vintage ornaments.

In fact, I am quite sure that I have vintage Christmas decor in multiple places in every room in our home!

Beach House Update

More progress on the beach house!

We are done painting and this upcoming week will be the busiest week ever! They will be patching and installing new floors. They will also be installing the kitchen cabinets and starting the finished carpentry. The interior doors will be installed and … they will be putting in all of the light fixtures and chandeliers.

Wow. That is a lot going on this week at the beach house!

  1. While I read through your daily emails and visit your blog often, this is my first post. I wanted to tell you how much you blog means to me. My Mom passed away two years ago this January from advanced Alzheimer’s disease. Your style and way of decorating are so much like Mom. She loved to decorate and craft, and was ever chairing fundraisers and volunteering. Coming to your blog is like going home and seeing the newest thing Mom has created. Thank you so much for infusing the joy of a beautiful home. God bless and Merry Christmas.

    1. Ronda,
Oh my gosh! Thank you. My mom also passed away almost two years ago from the same disease. I honor my mom with everything I do as she was my inspiration for crafting and cooking and decorating. I am so glad you are here.
