A California Christmas and Sunday Morning Coffee

|

A California Christmas is wonderful, and we have celebrated on the west coast for a very long time. Snow would be nice, but not likely!

One of the great things about a California Christmas, especially when the children are small, is that new toys like bikes and rollerblades and sporting equipment can be used on Christmas Day! Last year we played pickleball for hours on Christmas Day and it was so much fun!

Today I am pleased to share with you Sunday Morning Coffee. This is a place to share, learn, explain, dream, and have fun.

About Me

Christmas in California

Welcome to Sunday Morning Coffee! I hope you have a cup of coffee or tea and can join me to talk about the holidays!

So what do you think of the photo shown above of our home? This is my dream California Christmas!

Fake snow looks pretty good!

Of course, the snow is fake but I sure love this photo. This photo is from a commercial we filmed at our home a few years ago. They “wrapped” our door in red plastic instead of painting it! Can you tell it was 86 degrees the day we filmed this?

When I am asked, “Where are you from?”, I always answer California. And yet, I haven’t always lived here. My father was in the Air Force and I was born in Dayton, Ohio. As a military family, we moved a lot and I attended 14 different schools.

So what state do I love the most?

California.

Especially at Christmas.

Wait, what?

Best Christmas in California

I have definitely spent the majority of my life in California and I love it. The best part of living in California is the weather. We have a very consistent climate and little to no humidity.

And yet, the only time I don’t like the weather here is in November and December. I wish it was colder! Two weeks ago we had temperatures in the nineties but this week it will be in the mid to high seventies. At least the low temp on one day will be 47 degrees. Yay!

I am always hoping for cooler temperatures as we get closer to Christmas.

But since that is not likely to happen, I occasionally set a table out on our back porch. Do you remember this nutcracker table? It was on our back porch.

I do love that we can entertain outside during the holidays. S’mores are always a great idea. Especially when they are in a pan.

This is the closest we get to snow. A flocked tree! Hehehe. It makes me sad but that’s ok. It’s nice to be able to sit outside and not freeze to death!

And yet, snow would be great this time of year …

For the first time in thirty-five years, we are hosting our Christmas Party on a Friday night.

Traditionally our party has been held on the Saturday night before Christmas. But this year that date is December 17th and it’s a bit too early for our boys to come home for the holidays.

So the party is going to be on Friday, December 23rd.

I know there are a few drawbacks to having our party two days before Christmas. Some of our friends will be out of town and there is a lot of preparation preparing for the party. Usually, I use the days after the party to finish my shopping and get ready for Christmas.

This year that won’t be able to happen. Especially since we think we might be finishing a big project that same week.

  1. You made my Sunday morning coffee so much more enjoyable. Im still unpacking from moving, so your Christmas decor is mine only when I read your blog. Its 41’ here in Texas, baby its cold outside!

  2. Love all these photos so full of inspiration! I’ve lived in CA most of my life…not far from you in Sierra Madre. However, like you, I was born in the Midwest and remember the winters. I still miss the crisp, cool Fall weather when September comes around. Still, you can’t beat our weather here!

  3. Its been getting pretty cold here in Central CA the last few weeks. 39 most mornings now and 60’s during the day but love it! Wishing you a wonderful holiday season Leslie! 🌲
