You all know I am always trying to mix things up when I treat our family to a special dinner.

As the holidays near, I came up with a fun dinner celebration that includes four grill dinner ideas and lots of holiday decor.

Thanks to my partnership with The Home Depot, I moved our new Weber Spirit E-315 3-Burner Liquid Propane Gas Grill to the back porch which meant my dinner prep was only a few steps from the table!

I also had fun setting a very special holiday table for our family dinner.

Did you know The Home Depot carries a top selection of grills and offers free delivery on all grills purchased online? If you purchase a grill in the store (priced at $399.00 and over), you also get free assembly and delivery! I assembled our grill myself and it only took me a few hours.

Cooking the Main Course on the Grill

I wanted to prepare a dinner that was fun but different, so I decided to make a Seafood Boil! If you haven’t made a seafood boil, my recipe consists of shrimp (with shells), potatoes, sausage, corn, and lobster tails. I placed a large pot on the grill and boiled everything in no time at all.

When the boil is served, it’s a delicious and fun way to have a very tasty dinner!

The Weber grill has three stainless steel burners and delivers heat evenly which was perfect for cooking four different ittems on the grill. There are so many great Weber accessories, including a Spirit and Spirit II 3-Burner Gas Grill Cover, a 3-Piece Stainless Steel Grill Tool Set, a Stainless Steel Grill Basket, a Stainless Steel Grill Pan, and a Cast-Iron Griddle for Spirit and Spirit II 2 and 3 Burner Gas Grill.

Grilled Corn Brushed with Compound Butter

I made the seasoned butter and brushed it on the corn on the cob while it cooked.

Once it was done, I added the grilled corn to the seafood boil pot.

This was the first time I made a seafood boil. Doesn’t it look amazing?

Roasted Marshmallows

The third part of the meal that I cooked on the grill was roasting marshmallows for the S’Mores. It was easy to cook the marshmallows over the grill. We put them on the Weber Bamboo Skewers and cooked them until they were lightly browned.

Baking the S’Mores

I decided to make Portable Smores. They are easier to eat and so much fun!  They are so easy to make as all you need to do is press graham cracker crumbs mixed with melted butter into Lodge pans. Then you add bars of your favorite chocolate.

I added the toasted marshmallows on top and then cooked them in the grill until everything was melted.

Don’t they look amazing? They taste even better!

You can find the green ticking placemats and the plastic green wine glasses and water glasses (they look like they are glass!) on The Home Depot website. Aren’t they fabulous?

How to Build a Wood Table Top

See the wood table on the left that I used for my meal prep? It’s actually not a table, it’s a wood table top that I made that sits on top of a plastic table!

Ways to Grill Dinner

I love making these wood tabletops! I have ones that I made a year ago and I finally added the tutorial here. I decided I needed a smaller one that could be used to serve a buffet, prep food, or even as a bar!

I had some old wood fencing but you can also use plywood or any wood you want from The Home Depot.

Wooden Table Top

This is the Four Foot, Adjustable Height plastic Table I used from The Home Depot. We have had this table for years and I love that the height is adjustable.

Make a Wooden Table Top

To make the tabletop, first, you need to determine how many boards you need, based on the size of your table. You will want the top wood piece to be at least 3″ wider than the tabletop measurement. Measure and cut your top boards. Next, you need to build a frame underneath with wood pieces to secure the boards together and also enable the top to fit snugly over a table. Just measure the size of the tabletop, allow about 3/4″ extra room, and screw on the frame.

Making a Wooden table

I cut one of the fence boards lengthwise and added a 4″ board to the frame around the table edge to hide the plastic tabletop.

Prelit Tree from The Home Depot

I set up our new tree from The Home Depot outside on our porch. It’s the 9ft. Elegant Grand Fir LED Pre-Lit Tree with a timer.

Seafood Boil Recipe

Dinner Grill Ideas Holiday Shmimp and Lobster boil

If you haven't made a seafood boil, my recipe consists of shrimp (with shells), potatoes, sausage, corn, and lobster tails. It is delicious and so much fun to eat!

Prep Time 30 minutes
Cook Time 1 hour
Total Time 1 hour 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • Seafood Boil
  • 1 Box Zatarian’s Crawfish, Shrimp & Crab Boil in a Bag
  • 2 quarts of Chicken Stock
  • 4 Lemons (sliced in half with seeds removed)
  • 12 small red potatoes (cut in half, skin on)
  • Kielbasa (1 package) or Andouille if you want more heat (sliced into 2-3 inch pieces)
  • 6 Corn on the Cob (cut in half with ends removed) (if fresh corn on the cob is not available, use  frozen corn on the cob)
  • 2 Lbs Shrimp (cleaned with shells on is traditional or peeled and deveined with tail on)
  • 2 Lbs Lobster tails (cleaned and in shells)
  • Seasoned Butter
  • Butter (1 stick)
  • 2 Tbl Old Bay Seasoning

Instructions

Place Zatarian’s bag of seasoning in the pot. Cover with stock. For a lighter broth, you can use water instead of stock. Add lemons and potatoes. Place on grill with medium/high heat until at a rolling boil. Cook for about 45 minutes until the potatoes are softened.

While the potatoes are cooking, melt the butter in the microwave. Once butter is melted, add the Old Bay seasoning to the melted butter and stir until combined. Place the corn pieces into the grill basket that has been sprayed with non-stick spray. Brush the corn with the seasoned butter. As the corn grills, turn in the basket and baste with the seasoned butter. Once all corn pieces are done, remove from heat and place into the large serving bowl. Cover.

Once the corn is grilled and set aside and potatoes are nearing doneness, add sausage and cook for an additional 10 minutes or until potatoes are soft and cooked through.

Add seafood at the very end. Cook until tails curl and seafood is pink (about 3-6 minutes depending on size).

Once seafood is done, turn the grill off. Using tongs, remove the lemons and Zatarains seasoning bag from the pot and set aside in a separate bowl to throw away. Using tongs, transfer the potatoes, sausage, and seafood to the serving bowl with grilled corn. Carefully pour the seasoned stock over the potatoes, sausage, and seafood.

To serve, using tongs, evenly distribute the potatoes, sausage, and seafood amongst the bowls. Ladle seasoned stock over the top and serve.

Portable S'Mores

Dinner Grill Ideas Holiday Smores

Portable S'Mores are the best. They taste even better than s'mores and are so much easier to eat!

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Graham Cracker Crumbs
  • ½ Stick Melted Butter
  • 6 Hershey Bars
  • 18 Marshmallows
  • Lodge 8” cast iron skillet

Instructions

Mix melted butter and graham cracker crumbs together and press into Lodge skillets.

Break chocolate bars into pieces and evenly distribute across the Lodge skillets.

Spear marshmallows with Weber Bamboo Skewers (soak the skewers in water before use, follow instructions on packaging). Roast marshmallows over the grill to your desired doneness.

Once marshmallows are lightly browned, remove from skewers and place on top of the graham cracker crust and chocolate in the Lodge skillet.

Place the Lodge skillets onto the grill and close the grill cooking on the lowest heat to melt the chocolate and marshmallows.

I hope you enjoyed my grill dinner ideas. This really was the perfect location for a fun holiday dinner for our family. You should try this too as it is so much fun.
