A New Trek Electric Bike and Sunday Morning Coffee

|

It’s been such a crazy week! I bought a new Trek e-bike, cooked a five-course dinner for 8, and we had big family news!

It’s hard to believe September is already here. The weather has been so crazy with our tropical storm last weekend and more rain yesterday. We have a very fun wedding today and I am so relieved it won’t be raining! I have so much to share from this week so let’s get started!

Thanks for joining me for Sunday Morning Coffee. This is a place to share, learn, explain, dream, and have fun. Let’s get started!

About Me

Dave and I in the Canadian Rockies on our bike trip.

You probably remember the bike trip Dave and I took in July to the Canadian Rockies.

I did not train, I did not prepare, and yet we biked on average 30 miles a day.

And I absolutely loved it.

How is that possible? Because we rode a Trek e-bike which is a pedal-assisted bike and provides electric help when you need it … mostly up the big hills.

A week later we were in the Colorado Rockies and rented e-bikes and we rode 34 miles and loved it.

So guess who bought a Trek e-bike last week?

I have been looking at the Trek electric bikes for weeks and I finally bought a new Trek Verve 2+ e-bike a week ago. It’s a model from last year (they have Verve 3’s and 4’s available now) but it was on sale big time and I think it might be the exact bike I was riding in Canada.

I took off on my first bike trip last Sunday and headed north from Ventura (by myself) and I loved it. I rode about 36 miles RT to Rincon and the route was along the ocean and absolutely gorgeous!

If you watch the quick video below you can see my view as I rode. (And I know it’s not that smart to video while riding a bike but I was cautious.) I did use the e-bike pedal assist for hills and some other more challenging stretches but it was still a strenuous workout!

When I got home I was exhausted.

Which is a good thing.

The next day Matt and I rode a similar route and it was great too. But not as far as he needed to get to the golf course.

Dave and I donated an auction item to one of our favorite charities, Ability First. It was a gourmet five-course wine dinner for eight, cooked and hosted by us, in our backyard.

We hosted it on Tuesday night and it was amazing!

We had no idea who was coming, as we didn’t even know who bought the dinner at the auction and of course, they then invited their friends. But our guests were so much fun and we loved hosting them. It was an incredible evening and so much fun!

I will share the entire evening with recipes and more photos this coming week.

My Biggest Challenge This Week

Beach house living room with farmhouse style furniture and large fireplace and frame tv.

Guess where I will be next week?

I am heading to Ventura for the week for a fun girls’ trip.

But this one is going to be different and I need your help!

It’s a week focused on healthy living, aka a boot camp/let’s exercise/let’s cook healthy food and have fun kind of a week.

I am just not sure how to plan it because I want it to be fun and I want it to be motivating and focused on healthy living.

I know we will take beach walks, bike (of course), play pickleball, and have fun!

But I would love your input as I am looking for delicious healthy recipes and ideas for the week.

Of course, we do have a few distractions …

Our home wine cellar built in a hallway at our beach house.

There is a lot of wine in our wine cellar! But last I checked, red wine is healthy, right?

  1. You should definitely hike the trails in the botanical gardens on Poli St. It’s a 2.1 mile hike and beautiful. It usually takes about an hour to do. The views and the gardens are amazing.

  2. In this very fast paced life my idea of a healthy girls week would include all the things you mentioned + mental rest and maybe some thought provoking questions you could send out ahead of time for y’all to think about and discuss one evening over cocktails. This is the most restorative activity of our annual Wives Club gathering. We all bring items for an huge charcuterie and everyone’s bustling about the kitchen then we gather on the porch to talk into the night leaving the clean up for much much later. Also I find whiling away the morning hours doing a simple craft together with a cuppa in our pjs is relaxing and leads to heart to heart talks. I fear we spend so much time on the external and then stay all cramped up internally these days and need safe places to share our thoughts with.
