Summer Birthday Week and Sunday Morning Coffee

It’s summer birthday week at my house as I am celebrating yet another birthday later this week. But that’s ok because I am a grandma now.

It’s going to be a really fun few weeks as I will get to see all of my kids, my daughter-in-law, and my grandson. Plus we will be gearing up for a fun week at the beach house at the end of the month too!

Thanks for joining me for Sunday Morning Coffee. This is a place to share, learn, explain, dream, and have fun. Let’s get started!

About Me

Yep. It’s that time of year again.

Another birthday.

And I truly have lost count. So don’t think I am going to even tell you how old I am tuning later this week.

But that’s ok. We spent a fabulous time with lots of family in Atlanta last weekend and I just confirmed a quick trip to Northern California to visit my grandson!

I honestly cannot think of a better birthday gift, right?

Look who is getting bigger!!

My Latest Project

My Latest Project

Beach house living room with farmhouse style furniture and large fireplace and frame tv.

If you read my blog post last week about my new style at the beach house called Modern Coastal Vintage, then you might remember that I am busy at home in Pasadena thinning out things in our home.

After decorating the beach house in a simplified way, I came home and realized there was way too much stuff (aka clutter) in our farmhouse-style home.

I started with the living room and absolutely love how it turned out.

Next, I am working on the dining room. The first thing I did was repaint the dining room. When we filmed a commercial a while back they did some damage to the paint and offered to repaint the dining room.

I went with a slightly lighter version of the previous color and I love it!

A dining room with light brown walls, white trim, a vintage chest and french shutter, and a farmhouse wood dining room table.
It’s Summer Birthday week at my house and I am celebrating yet another birthday later this week. I am good with it, especially because I am a grandma now.

Next up is our primary bedroom which also needs repainting! (And it’s painted grey which looks lavender 24/7. I hate it so it is definitely getting painted.)

My Biggest Challenge This Week

Bedroom Makeover Lit Bookshelves

Lately, I have been reading too much.

Wait, what?

For as long as I can remember I have loved to read. I have read every day for a few years, but usually, that means ten to fifteen minutes at bedtime. It helps me sleep.

Surprisingly, for the past month, I have been reading a few hours a day. As in every day.

So here is my problem.

I need some more good books to read!

Please help me by leaving your favorite books you have read recently in the comments below. Thank you!

A street in Provence, France with a storefront painted in mint green, people are sitting at a table at an outdoor cafe in the background and colorful french market bags are lined beneath the steps of the shop

I can’t believe it’s been almost one year since we were in Provence, France with Tracey of French Larkspur. The trip was absolutely magical. We shopped at vintage flea markets and brocante shops in quaint villages and ate our weight in croissants each day!

A dried twisting Liana vine, brass bells and stone pots on a bench. One pot holds a green plant

So many of you have asked about the twisting Liana vine that I have hanging on the wall at the beach house. Patrick at Through the Porthole has a few of these for sale. If you are interested, reach out quickly, they will go fast!

Beautiful pale pink heirloom roses that are cut and piled into an gathering basket. Rose bushes are in the background

Heirloom roses are my absolute favorite. Did you know that you can order both cut rose bouquets and rose bushes from Grace Rose Farm? They are so beautiful and so fragrant!

My dear friend and Roundtop shopping buddy Debra Hall has a beautiful online shop. She is a master stylist and has an incredible eye for turning the ordinary into extraordinary.

A beautiful bedroom all in white and beige colors. A light wood dresser is in the foreground, wood floors are painted white and walls have white wainscoting, a desconstructed chair sites in the corner next to a white side table filled with a cement but lamp, a silver pot and antique clock. The bed frame is covered in white linen and bedding is white and being. There are three gold froms leaning against the wall at the top of the wainscoting with netral floral paintings.

Liz Marie Galvan is one of the most talented and kindest people I know. If you don’t already follow her, now is your chance!

We kicked off the week by sharing my favorite homemade coffee ice cream, mud pie sundae recipe, yum! Next, we shared lots of ideas for summer entertaining and then how to add color to a bedroom. With the beach house finally completed, I shared what I have termed modern coastal vintage style and how you can style your home with it, how to make a faux magnolia wreath, and finally, my favorite mocktail recipes.

Did you know Martha Stewart has a podcast? She interviews fascinating people from all walks of life that have one have one thing in common: they inspire and intrigue her!

This week is going to be a fun one! I am sharing some fabulous summer faux flowers, backyard lighting ideas, and an up-close look at my newly painted and styled dining room. I also have four amazing salmon recipes to share, my succulent wreath DIY, and some fabulous ideas for Father’s Day. And sometime this week, I will squeeze in my birthday!

  7. Reading books – ahhhhh… I grew up down the street from our public library and we would ride our bikes up and fill our bike baskets to the brim, race home, read up a storm, and start the process all over again. As an adult, I go in fits and spurts. Like you, I have found myself reading several hours a day some years. Anyway, I love Louise Penny’s Armand Gamache Three Pines series. Louise is an incredible writer – I think you will love her style! And I am a fan of action/adventure/mystery/thriller books – I have a long list of favorite authors if that something you like. From Clive Cussler to Daniel Silva to the Pendergast books by Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston to Brad Thor to Vince Flynn/Kyle Mills and loads in between.
