Happy New Year 2023 and Sunday Morning Coffee

Happy New Year 2023! Wow. Last year was such a busy year and I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am for the new year!

In 2022 I wrote and launched a book, remodeled the beach house, and blogged seven days a week. Every day and week of the year. So what’s next for a Happy New Year 2023?

Happy New Year 2023!

This is going to be such an incredible year and I have a lot of plans and exciting news to share with you this year.

My number one goal for 2023 is to relax and enjoy every single day to its fullest. We will be spending a lot of time at the beach house to enjoy the new remodel. Also, our boys have declared they will be doing the same. (And you know me, I will travel anywhere to spend more time with my boys.)

Does that mean I am slowing down?

Yes. Well, perhaps, a bit.

But if I think of the hours I spent last year writing and launching my book A Home to Share, and remodeling the beach house, this year is going to be more relaxing because the book is done and the beach house is almost done!

That should free up some time for more creativity, reading, exercising, and relaxing.

Beach House Kitchen Where We Started
We are almost finished with the beach house remodel and I thought it might be fun to share where we started. We bought this home nine years ago!

But wait. I know what you are thinking. How could we have almost finished the beach house if you haven’t seen the nearly finished photos?

Oh, they are coming.

In fact, I will be sharing everything about the beach house this month. I will share the process and the whys and hows of what we did. I may even share with you the headaches and delays we had too! Although, do you really want me to share those too?

I can promise you that this year will be more fun, and more intentional, and will really focus on how to use creativity to enjoy life.

Why would I promise that? Because that is what I will be focusing on every day. Both in my personal life and here at My 100 Year Old Home.

You have to promise me you won’t panic if I don’t blog every single day of the year. I think it’s likely you will not even notice, but the thought of actually not having to write a 1200-word blog post every single day is really something I need!

But first, before I get too far into this blog post, I want to say thank you. You have all been here, day after day, reading my blog, leaving wonderful comments, and encouraging me always. I believe that I have the best job in the world and I hope you know that I couldn’t do this without all of you. Thank you so much. I wish each of you a very Happy New Year 2022!

My Latest Project

I have been working on this project since August. Remember the stockings I made when the boys were toddlers? Almost thirty years ago?

They take about a year to make. Each one.

Stocking Stuffers for Christmas Morning.

In July I ordered a new stocking, from the same company as the first three, to make for my daughter-in-law Charlotte.

Here is the pattern.

Hand needlepoint stocking with name Charlotte

It arrived in September and I started needlepointing right away. I even signed up for a class at the same local store, A Stitch in Time, to make sure I would have lots of fun decorative stitches to use! I ordered the stocking, and buy all the threads at A Stitch in Time too.

As you can see, I have already made a lot of progress.

Charlotte’s name isn’t crooked, I am just holding the stocking for the photo which made it look that way. Hehe.

Here is a close-up of some of the stitching. It’s hard to see the stitches on the tree because I haven’t finished it yet. I love the white stitch in the third photo, which is underneath the teddy bear. It will go around the entire tree and it’s so fun to stitch.

I haven’t shared this yet because it was a big surprise for Charlotte on Christmas.

And no, Charlotte wasn’t pregnant yet when I ordered this. I am going to try to finish another stocking (for my grandson) as well this year to have them both in time for Christmas 2023.

Wish me luck!

My Biggest Challenge This Week

Beach House Kitchen Where We Started
The kitchen progress, from a month ago.

The Beach House is my biggest challenge this week. But in a good way.

It’s a challenge because there are a million different pieces to organize in order for the house to be completed. There are a lot of decisions to be made and the rain is delaying the final plaster on the outside of the house. Aargh!

So I am constantly reminding myself that a few more weeks are just fine until the house is done. I mean, what’s the rush anyway, right?

Wrong.

I want to move in and decorate the house with all of the amazing things I have for the home. I want to sit in our new primary bedroom and enjoy the ocean view and I want to hang out with our family and cook lots of great meals. Finally, I want to sit by the fire pit on the top deck and enjoy some cocktails!

I can promise you, you won’t recognize our house when it is done.

Progress This Week

Here is the main living area and it looks so different. The floors are sanded and the big picture window looks amazing. Can you see the waves through the window? There is a tarp and plastic coating on the outside of the window but soon the view will be amazing! The fireplace mantle is designed and will be installed hopefully this week.

Also, the recessed lights are covered with plastic so they look funny!

Remodeled beach house with new floors, fireplace, and large window.

This week we will be finishing the bunk beds, banister, fireplace mantle, countertops, and floors. We still need to install all of the appliances and plumbing fixtures which will likely happen the following week. The wine cellar is almost done but the glass doors aren’t ready yet. Landscaping and the backyard surprise (more on that later) will happen in a few weeks.

You will see more beach house photos in my blog post tomorrow. I will be sharing progress photos throughout the entire house which are amazing!

  1. Sounds like a good year ahead! Love the stocking you are making. All the different stitches make it so interesting. As to the beach remodel — yes! I would like to hear about delays and glitches as well as how you handled them, maybe re-thinking, maybe just waiting! Still, it would be helpful and relatable.
