Why Do I Love Crafts? – Sunday Morning Coffee
I had a free day yesterday. So what did I do? I spent the day making crafts and it was the best day ever. So why do I love crafts so much?
I love crafts because I love making things and gifting them from my heart. I have quite a history of making crafts which I am going to share with you today. Thanks for joining me for Sunday morning coffee where I am sharing my weekly thoughts about entertaining, decor, recipes, and one of my absolute favorite things to do … making crafts.

Season 3 Volume 28
I love to make crafts. Why? Well, another reason is that I have been crafting for a really long time.
At the age of six, I was making paper crafts and gluing felt pieces together to make comb cases for my brothers for Christmas. My mom taught me how to sew when I was eight. Soon, I was making a daisy yarn afghan quilt and sewing summer shifts (which is a straight dress with no zippers or sleeves) that 9-year-olds normally don’t make.
At about the age of 13, I started a yearly tradition of hand-making Christmas gifts for everyone in my family. Each gift was personalized and I think the fact they were handmade made up for the fact that many didn’t turn out all that great.
When I was in high school I was making complete outfits such as coats and dresses and I started trying other craft projects. I ventured into making jewelry, beading, embroidery, paper crafts, needlework, macrame, and more. When I turned sixteen I got my first job at a fabric store and I made new outfits every single week.
In college, I made all of my sorority formal dresses and costumes, took a stained-glass class, and still made Christmas gifts every year.
After college, I made bridesmaids’ dresses, suits for work, pillows, and drapes for my apartment, and Christmas gifts for my family and boyfriend.
When Dave and I were married I made my wedding dress and made everything for our first home. I made baby clothes for the boys, all of their Halloween costumes, soccer banners, and most of the costumes for their school plays.
Today I still make blankets, wreaths, paintings, flowers, and lots of pillows. I love furniture refinishing, and making all kinds of decor items for entertaining. I am crafting more now than I ever have and I absolutely love it!
And now that my grandchild has arrived, I am looking forward to my next chapter of crafts. Needlepoint stockings and lots of fingerprinting are likely in my future!
I would never make this many crafts if I didn’t have someone to share them with. (And that someone is all of you!)
I love that I am always looking for another craft idea and often my best ideas happen when I spend time in my craft storage room. I know if I start looking through my craft supplies something fun will pop in my head.
So thank you. I love that so many of you have experienced the joy of crafting and were inspired to try one of my ideas. I also love that those of you who don’t craft share your enthusiasm too!
Hopefully, I am not crafting too much. I promise I will try to contain myself. But now that you know my “crafting history” my obsession might make more sense.

Believe it or not, I survived Amazon Prime Day(s).
I know it sounds silly but it was a lot of work! It was also a lot of fun.
On Early Prime Day, I hosted two Amazon Live shows and my total views were … well … would you believe the total views were 16 times the total population of our city? That is the most viewers I have ever had in a day and I am still shocked. The worst part is that while I was hosting the Live broadcasts I could see how many people were watching and it freaked me out!
I might have stumbled a bit. A few times.

My Biggest Challenge This Week
… is managing vacation time.
Wait, what?
Yep. I was on vacation last week at the beach house with our family and soon Dave and I are heading out for a Backroads Biking trip in Canada.
And a biking trip isn’t that conducive to working on your laptop.
It’s an issue I have dealt with forever. In a small business, there isn’t really anyone to “cover for you” when you are on vacation.
So I have been focused on how I am going to get all of my work done.
Believe it or not, I think I have figured it out.
It is something I have mentioned in my Sunday Morning Coffee posts many, many, times and it’s called working ahead.
It’s not finishing a blog post the night before it is due to be published. It’s scheduling all of your blog posts for an entire week a week in advance.
In my case, it’s something in between. And I am getting there.
I still can’t believe we are taking a biking vacation in a week! I can’t wait to share it with you.
And where is my next trip? Colorado for a wedding and then a trip to see my grandson again!

I’m sitting here with a cup of coffee and I’m laughing so hard! I felt like I was reading a story about myself. Lol My parents Christmas tree was filled with my homemade ornaments when I was a child. This was an enjoyable story. It brought back many memories. When I was eight and nine I was always cleaning house and learning to cook. I still love things to be clean and love organizing. I was a serious cook for many years. Now that we are older we eat more simply. When I was in 7th grade my friend sewed shifts with a back zipper. It seemed like she had a new one every day…I was so envious! I learned to sew but was not great. I love crafted things and am a fan of etsy. A friend has made a business of her high quality crafts. I am not much of a crafter, but have always loved interior design. LOL..an excellent shopper though. 🙂
As Shannon and Jillian said, this brought back memories! I love crafting too but don’t have a lot of time for it anymore. I’m always so impressed with yours – especially that white pinecone wreath, which is probably my favorite of all time. I’m still planning to make one in memory of my mom, but because of covid, we haven’t been able to have a celebration for her yet. But today’s her birthday, so that’s just as good! Thanks for all your daily inspiration – you’re amazing!

I once took a stained glass class. That’s when I decided buying stained glass products is worth every penny they charge.
My mom was my recipient of all my gifts I crafted for years and she loved every single one of them.
She would encourage me to sew my clothes, buy me fabric to keep on creating and how I felt was indescribable that she was my best cheerleader. She’s gone now and it’s not quite the same not having her to see all my hobbies. Good memories and it’s made my heart swell thinking you still find pleasure in creating too.
