Summer Decor Tips – Sunday Morning Coffee
Happy Sunday! I thought it might be fun to share some of my Summer Decor Tips and a little bit about what is happening around my home.

Thanks for joining me for Sunday morning coffee. Today I am sharing my weekly thoughts about entertaining, decor, crafts, and recipes, and some easy ways to add summer decor to your home.
A Little Bit About Me
I think summer might be my favorite season.
Of course if you search my blog, I am pretty sure I have said the same thing about spring and the holidays.
Perhaps I should say that I love every season. But I do like winter the least. Don’t get me wrong, we really don’t have winter in Southern California. Instead we have gray days and cool days and a few hot days that make no sense. Especially when it is fifty degrees one week and eighty degrees the next. In February.
Right now I am loving summer and I am finally getting around to adding summer decor to my home.
Soon I will share a summer tour of our home but for now, I am going to share some summer decor tips.
Use More White Summer Decor
I have said many times why having a neutral palette in your home makes it a lot easier to add color. Summer is such a great time to show off your white decor and I love that I have white slipcovers in both my family and living rooms.
Opps. What I kind of forgot to mention is that I just replaced the slipcovers in both rooms! What???
The slipcovers in the family room had been washed a gazillion times and needed to be replaced. The living room slipcovers were wonderful and I decided I should wash them for summer. To be honest, I hadn’t washed them in years but since we don’t use our living room much, they didn’t really need washing. I am pretty sure I washed them in cold water and I definitely hung them to dry. Unfortunately when I went to put the covers back on, they had shrunk by four inches.
I probably should have taken a video of my efforts to get them to fit, but it was useless. I did shed a few tears but knew I had to order new ones since the sofa underneath is a very unsightly golden brown color. Fortunately the new living room slipcovers arrived yesterday. I promise to share them in my summer home tour later this week.
There are so many ways to add white decor to your home. You can use summer throws, art, and accessories. I painted an entire room, our Carriage House, white and added a white table. I also painted a dark copper brown mirror and a dresser with white milk paint and I love how everything looks in our home.
You can even use white flowers. These are the crepe paper flowers I made for Andrew and Charlotte’s Rehearsal Dinner. They look so wonderful throughout our home.
Decorate with Colorful Summer Flowers
There is no doubt that using bright summer flowers is a wonderful summer decor option for your home. I love that a bright floral arrangement can brighten any room in your home.
Just so you know, the flowers and be real of faux. I made the crepe paper peonies above. You can too!
I made this pink flower wreath with very inexpensive flowers.
This bright colored centerpiece featuring sunflowers is one of my favorite DIY centerpieces!
Perhaps you saw this copper centerpiece this week! I can’t even begin to say how much I love it.
Use Bright and Bold Summer Decor
I love how much a piece of art or even glassware on a table can brighten up our homes for summer. I added one of my paintings to our third-floor bedroom and the room looked so much brighter!
In our family room I added another one of my paintings and some fresh hydrangeas for an amazing pop of color.
The cranberry glass on our dining room table added a whole new level of color to our dining room. It had the same effect when I added it to the table in our Carriage House.
Summer Pillows
I had to mention how pillows can change a room and add an incredible amount of color. I not only made all of these pink pillows but I also designed the fabric! These pink pillows have been such a nice and colorful addition to our home.
My pink DIY pillow was an Anthropologie hack and I love the way it turned out.
This felt flower pillow was a very fun DIY and you can see how well it ties in to the bright colors in our kitchen.
Reflections on the Week
It seems like every week has been a wonderful this year. I teamed up with my friend Karianne from Thistlewood Farms and we shared some very fun summer entertaining ideas.
This past week I shared Back Porch Entertaining Ideas and Summer Entertaining in a Farmhouse dining Room (in our Carriage House). I created a Pizza Night on the Porch and Patio and Al Fresco Dining Poolside Style. I am thrilled with your enthusiasm for my summer entertaining ideas and I hope when you try some of these ideas you will share them and tag me. I also shared How to Create Your Own Recipes using ingredient ratios in recipes. I love how this has helped me to create my own recipes.
