Sunday Morning Coffee and Getting Settled
I have been on the road for almost a month and am so happy to be able to relax and think about getting settled at home.
Why? Well, we have two huge things happening in the next two weeks. Amazon Prime Big Deal Days are October 8th and 9th; my team’s (including mine) preparation is huge! More importantly, Michael and Ellie’s wedding is in two weeks, and we are all so excited! So, let’s dive into Sunday Morning Coffee.
Season 4 Volume 38
About Me
It’s true! Our son is getting married in less than two weeks!
We are so lucky that Michael and his fiance, Ellie, the love of his life, are tying the knot in 13 days! Earlier this year, they bought a new home and settled in Marin County, in Northern California. Did you know they live less than ten minutes from Andrew and Charlotte? How fabulous is that?
Wedding plans are keeping everyone busy (especially the bride and groom), and I have just about finalized the details for the rehearsal dinner. I am making favors for all of the guests, as well as place cards and menu cards, and I can’t wait to share everything after the wedding.
Most of you know I have been on a health kick since early April and have lost 30 pounds. In April, I bought my dress for the wedding two sizes smaller than what I wore then. I am pleased to say it fits, and I love it!
I got so lucky with that bet! (But I also used my smaller dress size as motivation to lose weight!) It gave me no choice, right?
The wedding weekend will be a special time for our extended family, and we are so excited to meet more of Ellie’s family!
My Latest Project
I started my Sourdough starter!
I am so excited about its possibilities, especially with fall approaching.
To make the starter, I used a mix of rye flour and all-purpose unbleached flour. Rye flour, known for its richness in nutrients and wild yeast, helps jumpstart the fermentation process, while the all-purpose flour provides a lighter texture for a well-balanced starter. This combination should be an excellent base for creating a strong, active sourdough starter.
Sourdough is not only a joy to bake with, but it also offers several health benefits. Who knew?
The fermentation process breaks down gluten and makes the bread easier to digest. It also increases the bioavailability of nutrients like B vitamins, iron, and magnesium. Plus, sourdough has a lower glycemic index than most other breads, meaning it won’t spike your blood sugar as much. All these factors make sourdough not only delicious but also a healthier option for bread lovers.
And that makes me happy!
As fall rolls in, I’m looking forward to using my sourdough starter to create various recipes. The options are endless, from traditional sourdough loaves to sourdough cinnamon rolls, pancakes, and even pizza dough. Something about the cozy, rustic nature of sourdough makes it perfect for cooler weather.
I can’t wait to dive into all the sourdough possibilities this season and share the process and results! But be patient as making the starter takes two to three weeks. My starter will be traveling with me for the next few weeks, so I can babysit it and ensure it’s growing. Hah!

My Biggest Challenge This Week
Would you believe I am still suffering from jet lag?
It’s been two weeks since we returned from France, so what the heck?
We slept so well in France, which I am sure is because we rode about 40 miles on our bikes every day. But now that we are home, I still wake up at 2:00 a.m., 3:00 a.m., or 4:00 a.m. Aargh!
Let’s hope this is the last of my erratic sleeping. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
- Finish Rehearsal Dinner favors, menus, and place cards.
- Get my dress hemmed for the wedding.
- Finish trying on all of the clothes I emptied out of my closet into three piles: keep, store, donate!

I was wondering if you could share more about your diet as far as what foods you ate, etc. on your weight loss journey. Or, if you did, I missed it. My husband and I are interested in a slow weight loss journey that we can sustain and still eat “semi-normal” food.
Thanks!
