About Me

A large living room with two white couches, a landscape painting above the mantle, sage green and lavender pillows, lavender throws, and spring decor.

I have gone full speed this month to embrace the beauty of spring. We are fortunate to enjoy nicer weather in Southern California but still have plenty of rain and cooler night temperatures.

Regardless of the weather, I have enjoyed this spring more than I can remember.

Ways to Enjoy the Spring Season to the Fullest

Cultivate a Kitchen Garden

One of the most rewarding ways to enjoy spring is cultivating a kitchen garden filled with herbs, vegetables, and edible flowers.

My kitchen garden this year is by far my best gardening project ever!

Whether you have a spacious backyard or a small balcony, there are endless possibilities for growing your produce and reconnecting with the earth.

Planting over 300 small vegetable and herb plants in four raised beds for our kitchen garden.

Start by selecting a variety of herbs, such as basil, parsley, and mint, which thrive in springtime conditions. Plant vegetables like tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers, and don’t forget to add some edible flowers, such as nasturtiums and pansies, to add color and flavor to your dishes.

Tending to your kitchen garden is not only a great way to enjoy the outdoors but also allows you to harvest fresh, organic ingredients for your meals.

Reading Al Fresco

Take advantage of the mild spring weather by bringing your reading outdoors and immersing yourself in a good book surrounded by nature. Set up a cozy reading nook in your backyard, on your balcony, or at a local park, and let birds chirping and leaves rustling in the breeze provide the perfect backdrop for your literary escape.

I have read a lot of great books so far this year. So far, my favorite is The Women by Kristin Hannah.

Whether you prefer classic novels, inspiring memoirs, or captivating thrillers, there’s something magical about losing yourself in a story while basking in the warmth of the sun and the beauty of the outdoors.

Refresh Your Flower Garden

Spring is the perfect time to breathe new life into your flower garden and fill it with colorful blooms that herald the season’s arrival. Spend a day outdoors tending to your garden, pulling weeds, pruning plants, and adding fresh soil or mulch as needed.

Consider planting a mix of spring-flowering bulbs such as tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and annuals like pansies, violas, and snapdragons. Incorporate various colors, textures, and heights to create visual interest and ensure your garden is vibrant throughout the season.

I just redid my hanging planters, and I can’t believe how much color they add to our backyard.

Add Spring Decor to Your Home

The Airbnb Waco Home Spring Refresh

Bring the beauty of spring indoors by adding seasonal decor touches to your home that reflect the freshness and vibrancy of the season. Swap out heavy curtains and blankets for lightweight fabrics and pastel colors that evoke a springtime feel.

I spent four days in Waco, adding many new spring touches to our Airbnb home. I can’t believe how much this new color palette readied our home for spring.

Decorate your living space with fresh flowers, potted plants, and botanical prints that celebrate the beauty of nature. Incorporate greenery elements, such as potted ferns or trailing vines, to add a touch of freshness and vitality to every room. Add spring-themed accents such as floral throw pillows, woven baskets, and decorative bird figurines to infuse your home with the season’s spirit.

Embrace Outdoor Activities

Take advantage of the longer days and warmer weather by embracing outdoor activities that allow you to immerse yourself in the beauty of spring fully. Go for a leisurely hike or nature walk and explore local trails or parks teeming with spring wildflowers and wildlife.

Pack a picnic basket with fresh, seasonal snacks and enjoy an al fresco meal with family or friends in a scenic outdoor setting. Try your hand at outdoor sports or recreational activities such as biking, kayaking, or gardening, and relish the opportunity to connect with nature and stay active.

Spring is a season of renewal, growth, and possibility, offering countless opportunities to embrace nature’s beauty and indulge in life’s simple pleasures. Soak up the sunshine, breathe in the fresh air, and revel in the magic of spring as you create cherished memories and savor every moment of this enchanting season.

My Latest Project

My Latest Project

A bright, spacious room with large windows, furnished with a wooden table, built-in bench bench, and a patterned rug.

Our family will all be here next weekend as we celebrate Michael’s 30th birthday!

A few months ago, we moved our weight room to the Carriage House, and I must say it is a beautiful place to work out!

Our new weight room in the Carriage House.

That means we had a room upstairs that needed a new purpose. By the way, this room will be referred to as the Sleeping Porch since that is what it is called on our original building plans!

So, guess who is turning the sleeping porch into a bedroom for visiting grandchildren?

Of course, we need a grandkids guestroom!

A bright, spacious room with large windows, furnished with a wooden table, built-in bench bench, and a patterned rug.

Which means I have a lot to accomplish in the next week. Here is my To Do list!

  • Clean out the sleeping porch
  • Add blackout drapes to all windows (there are three!)
  • Add storage for kids’ items (diapers, clothes, etc.)
  • Purchase the items needed for our grandson when visiting so it is easier for them to visit! (diapers, baby sound machine, portable stroller, toys, books, etc.)
  • Babyproof necessary rooms in our home
  • Try to find a new crib, as the portable crib won’t work forever
  • Make a cushion for the built-in bench.

Wish me luck!

My Biggest Challenge This Week

A raised garden bed filled with vibrant plants and flowers, equipped with a trellis, on a sunny day.

I never imagined that my biggest problem with my kitchen garden would be knowing when to harvest.

I already messed up with some of my lettuce. How? I let it grow too long before cutting, and now it has bloomed and it’s bitter.

I planted over 200 plants in my four flower beds, which means I need to become more aware of the plants’ germination timelines.

Help!

Just kidding. I got this.

I need to do a lot of research and figure it out!

Helpful tips are welcome!

This week's to do list.
  • Finish the grandkids room.
  • Baby-proof our house.
  • Finish attic storage reorganization.

  1. You have now entered your “All About the Grandkids Era” and it is just the best! We turned a spare bedroom into a playroom, bought a crib for a guest room, and have all the toys and necessities at our house, which makes things so much easier! Every weekend we are blessed to have the grandkids here! I had saved some of my children’s toys from their childhood, but by far the most played with item has been the play kitchen. PB has a beautiful one in several colors and it even has a farmhouse sinkI I also make different sensory bins which they love. I can’t wait to see your finished project!
