I Love New York and Sunday Morning Coffee
I am leaving for New York tomorrow and I am excited! I haven’t been there for four years but I love New York and I am ready for a fun visit.
So why am I going to New York? It’s for work! I am heading to a small conference with Amazon and I cannot wait. They are a great company to work with and I can’t wait to learn and meet some new people! (The photo below is from my last trip to NYC with Sarah at Dreaming of Homemaking and Carissa from Bless This Nest.)
Season 3 Volume 19
Thanks for joining me for Sunday Morning Coffee. This is a place to share, learn, explain, dream, and have fun. Let’s get started!
About Me
I love New York! Why? Because New York is such a fun place.
I haven’t visited as much as I would like which is why I am so excited I will be there tomorrow.
I leave very early Monday morning and fly home Wednesday evening. Although I know it’s a quick trip, I need to get back here because I have so much to do.
If you have any suggestions of what I should do in NYC let me know. I don’t have a lot of free time but I am sure I can sneak away at some point!
I love Central Park and this photo is one of my favorites. Not surprisingly, I always thought I would paint this view someday. Hopefully, I still will.

My Latest Project
The beach house is almost done except it needs a lot of one thing …
Art!
Before I started My 100 Year Old Home, I painted full-time. I also taught painting and traveled a lot.
My favorite types of paintings to create are abstracts and there are a lot of blank walls in the beach house that need some color.
I expect I need to paint five to ten paintings. Yikes.
I have been working on a color palette for my paintings and this is what I have come up with so far. I think these colors will look great and there are enough colors to work with that I can create some very different works of art.
Of course, I just need to make the time and get started. I can usually finish a large painting in a day or two.
Wish me luck.

My Biggest Challenge This Week
Since April 6th my biggest challenge is that I want to spend every second with this little guy!
He is already one month old and he is the cutest boy ever.
He also looks exactly like Andrew (and Michael) when they were babies. I have been to Northern California twice since his birth and will get up there again very soon.
You all were right. Being a grandmother is the most wonderful experience!
The Cook’s Atelier is a family-founded Cooking School, Cook’s Garden & Culinary Boutique in Beaune, France. I have taken a cooking class here! You can take a peek into the magic that they create in the April issue of Country Style Magazine. Get ready to be transported to France!
One of my favorites Instagram accounts to follow is @cheapoldhouses. It is practically unimaginable to me, living in Los Angeles that you could buy an entire home, and land for under $30,000. Definitely check this out if you haven’t already!
If you are like me, you love hydrangeas, but they are so, so finicky and I always end up with a drooper or two! This video shows the time lapse revival of hydrangea stems. This really works! Have you tried it yet?
I am excited to get back to NYC and I am hoping to have some time to walk the beautiful city. If you are an NYC fan, you need to check out Susan Kaufman‘s beautiful book, Walk With Me: New York. Flipping through the pages is like taking a stroll through the city.
Just in time for Mother’s Day, Elsie Green has released their Mother’s Day Gift Guide. If you or the mother you are shopping for is a fan of vintage, definitely check this out!
It was a wonderful week and even though it was cold and rainy, we spent some time outside. I shared more about my favorite vegetable to grow … tomatoes! and a fun way to decorate a cake. I also made a Pottery Barn knock-off pillow and a spring wreath. I also shared how we combined real hardwood and engineered hardwood in the beach house!
As we all look forward to warmer weather and heading outdoors to entertain, Martha shared a must-read article about 27 of the Most Creative Backyard Decorating Ideas.
I love New York and I will be on the road for most of the week, but I will be back on Thursday. On Friday we are heading back to the beach for Mother’s Day weekend. I cannot wait. Meanwhile, I have seven blog posts to share. I will be sharing some amazing Mother’s Day gifts, two updates in the beach house which include our kitchen and our primary bedroom, plus some behind-the-scenes “goofs” during the beach house remodel construction. Finally, I will be sharing a summer update in our living room.

The Frick Museum is great. The building and its history were featured in Fiona Davis’ book, The Magnolia Palace. Enjoy your visit.
Aw thank you so much for the tip Lauren! 🙏
