Summer is Here and Sunday Morning Coffee
Summer dinners on the patio, fruity cocktails, popsicles, homemade ice cream, and grilling on the barbecue. Summer is here, and I love it.
Thanks for joining me for Sunday morning coffee as we celebrate the holiday weekend. Today, I am sharing my weekly thoughts about entertaining, decor, crafts, and recipes, and that summer is here in our family!
Season 4 Volume 21
About Me
Memorial Day weekend is officially here.
And that means summer has arrived. Right? I don’t know when summer officially starts (and I am not waiting until June 21st), but Memorial Day weekend has always been the sign that summer is here for me.
For years, I have said that summer is my favorite season. It all began with the last day of school, which was my favorite day every year. What came next? Summer vacation!
Even as a young kid, I spent my summer vacations crafting, cooking, and creating.
I guess some things never change!
I know one thing that is happening this summer.
We will spend most of the summer at the beach in Ventura. And I cannot wait.

My Latest Project
Please don’t laugh, but I currently do not have a project.
At least, that is what I am working on this week!
Well, other than my health challenge. And that is going amazing!
(I am down 17 lbs. and very happy!)
I have been thinking about summer projects, and one of them is big. I mentioned it before, but I am pulling out my canvas and paints and will paint some large abstract paintings.
I am so excited.
Here are some of the abstract paintings I painted a few years ago.
Hopefully, I haven’t forgotten how to paint! (JK, I don’t think that could ever happen!)

My Biggest Challenge This Week
I have a big birthday in a few weeks and am totally in denial.
I am not telling you how old I will be on June 8th.
It’s just old.
Because of this milestone birthday, I have been doing everything to add youth to my life.
Things like working out, losing weight, bike riding, eating healthy, and playing with my kids and grandson.
And it’s working.
In a week, we are hosting nine friends up to the beach house to celebrate my birthday and my friend Robin’s. Our birthdays are one day apart, and we are the same age.
So, we are at the beach getting ready for my birthday celebration next weekend, and I am very excited.
Now, I must decide what kind of gift I will put together for my guests.
I keep thinking about a Beach bag, but I don’t know. Any ideas???
- Get the beach house ready for the Big Birthday Weekend; there will be nine of us. This includes stocking the refrigerators, cleaning the house, and more!
- Finish the plans for a fun end-of-the-year project I am working on. I hope this works out!

Wait you can’t say you dropped 17 pounds and not share the details on how you accomplished that because we all know it isn’t easy. Congrats. Please give us a peak at what worked best.
Yes-please tell!!! And health issues? 🙏
I’ve stayed consistent with my plan and my trainer! Thanks so much, it hasn’t been easy but the pay off has been amazing ☺️
You look great! Congrats on that and your upcoming birthday!! I think age now a days is just a number. It’s how you feel and live as to how “old” you are. Sounds like you are doing all the right things to be around a long time for that precious grandson. Have a wonderful birthday celebration. 🎉🎂
BTW the pictures of the ocean view at the beach house are beautiful. Nice to see the May grey lifted for at least a little bit.
Aw thank you so much! I totally agree with you there. Yes finally some much needed sunshine!
Last year I turned 80 and wanted no part of it or parties etc. Just leave me alone. Age never bothered me but 80 just sounded so Old. One surprise party later…celebrating for 3 weeks…kids flying
In on different days to make it last longer…lunches…dinners…walking with friends and it ended up being the best time ever…..approaching 81 now and I say bring it on!!!!
Haha that is too funny Maxine! Loving that attitude and your family sounds amazing!
Congrats on reaching this birthday, every day is a gift! With the challenge of endlessly decluttering my home since before COVID began, I find I am “leaving behind” many swag items from functions and charity events : Mugs, bags, pens, phone accessories….I just don’t want more stuff. I think the best thing to make for each of your friends is a written paragraph to each of them about what makes them a special friend to you, their superpower and/or a special memory that the two of you have together . That is a keepsake that would be treasured and not take up much room. You could put the card/paper with it in a photo frame. I know I would treasure that from a good friend.
That is a fabulous idea- thanks so much Marguerite! ❤️
