Hah! I did it! It’s September 1st, and our home is done! I have been decorating for fall, and all the rooms have a new look, cozy and inviting.

Surprisingly, I have never decorated our home in yellow and gold. For the longest time, I was very vocal about my dislike for yellow and refused to use it anywhere in our home decor. But now I will admit this fall color palette is my favorite ever! Go figure.

Decorating for Fall with a New Gold and Yellow Color Palette: A Room-by-Room Guide

Fall is almost here, and this year, I decided to refresh our home with a new, vibrant color palette of gold and yellow. These warm tones bring the essence of autumn into every room, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere without the need for heavy or overwhelming decor.

I achieved a cohesive and elegant look throughout our home by using simple, minimal decor items like fall faux florals, pillow covers, and items I already own. Here’s how I decorated each room for fall and how you can do the same.

Living Room: Warm and Inviting

Even though we don’t spend much time in our living room, I wanted it to feel warm and inviting for the fall season. I started by adding gold and yellow pillow covers to the existing pillows on our couch. This simple change instantly brought the fall palette into the room without requiring new furniture or significant decor changes.

Next, I added a few faux floral arrangements in shades of gold and yellow to the coffee table and side tables, bringing a touch of autumnal beauty into the space. I used vases I already owned, keeping the decor minimal yet impactful. To add texture and warmth, I draped a cozy throw blanket in a soft mustard yellow over the back of the couch, inviting everyone to snuggle up on cooler evenings.

Dining Room: Elegant and Bright

Our dining room often gets neglected, but I made it a focal point this fall with just a few simple additions. I started by layering gold placemats on the dining table. These provided a rich base for the table setting and tied in beautifully with the overall color palette.

I also added new salad plates with subtle gold accents, which complemented the placemats and added a touch of elegance to the table. A rattan basket filled with faux eucalyptus in golden tones served as the centerpiece, adding texture and natural beauty. This arrangement was easy to create and gave the room a fresh, seasonal look. The soft golds of the eucalyptus also provided a nice pop of color.

Kitchen: Functional and Festive

In the kitchen, I focused on keeping the countertops clear for cooking while still adding fall touches. A few simple swaps made a big difference: I replaced our everyday dish towels with warm green tones and added a few vases of yellow faux eucalyptus flowers on the windowsill. These subtle additions brought the fall palette into the kitchen without cluttering the space.

To keep things functional, I used a wicker bowl on the kitchen island to hold faux eucalyptus. Plus, I added a bowl of fresh fruit to the fall decor and made healthy snacks readily available. The natural texture of the wicker basket complemented the gold and yellow tones, creating a cohesive look.

Family Room: Cozy and Relaxed

The family room is all about comfort, so I focused on creating a cozy atmosphere with a few key pieces. I started by layering pillows and throw blankets in shades of gold and yellow on the couch and chairs. These added warmth and invited relaxation, perfect for movie nights or lazy afternoons.

I used more faux florals in gold and yellow tones to tie the room together, placing them in vases and on shelves. A rattan bowl filled with eucalyptus in muted gold served as a simple yet effective centerpiece on the coffee table. This minimal approach kept the room open and uncluttered while embracing the fall season.

Decorating for fall doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. By choosing a cohesive color palette like gold and yellow and using minimal decor items, you can transform your home into a warm and inviting space for the season.

Focus on adding touches of color and texture to each room, using items you already own whenever possible. This approach saves money and creates a unified and elegant look throughout your home. Our son Micahel and his finance, Ellie, are getting married in less than two months, and I have been busy finalizing plans for the Rehearsal Dinner. The dinner will be at a winery in Sonoma, and it will be beautiful. The menu is set, and I have finally decided on a small crafted table gift for everyone.

I can’t reveal what I am doing; it will take some time to finish when we return from France. Of course, I promise to share after the wedding.

My Biggest Challenge This Week

We leave for New York and France tomorrow, and I am so excited.

But leaving for two weeks requires so much prep! These past few weeks have been insane.

We have someone staying in our homes while we are away. Sport and Kelly will be well cared for. My blog posts are almost all written and scheduled. And we are packed.

And now we are spending the holiday weekend relaxing at the beach. Or at least trying to!
