Family Room

Our family room is a very comfortable room that we use to gather, dine, play games and watch TV. Our TV is hidden in a cabinet that was designed to look like a linen press. Someday I will figure out what that is! I had the large dining table made twenty years ago from old wood and the coffee table is … well a treasure. I know it’s not pretty but I love all the scratches on the table from soccer and baseball cleats. I doubt I will ever be able to part with it!

Oh my gosh.

Thank you so much for all of your kind comments and visits to my blog today!

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love the Feel Better Box I shared today. It makes me heart happy that so many of you loved it too.

Also the card is a download on my blog so you can just print it!

I spent the afternoon with my friend Lorzel @barnhousechicksmarket as she is hosting a vintage market tomorrow in Thousand Oaks California.

It was wonderful to walk through a flea market today! It’s been a year since I have done that.

The details are in my stories and I can’t wait to shop tomorrow!

Tomorrow I am also sharing the first of a new series called Make It or Break It. I made something from Anthropologie that costs $330. I spent $13 to make it.

And I like mine way better.

I cannot wait to share it.

I don’t know about you, but I become a little bit paralyzed when something happens to someone I care about. I find it hard to know what the nest thing is to do. To help. To comfort.

What I have learned is that doing something, anything, is better than doing nothing.

I have come up with something that I am really happy with ... It’s a Feel Better, Get Better, I Care About You Box.

Everything in the box is homemade and I comes from the heart.

This is one of my favorite things.

I wanted to post a photo of our kitchen today.

But it wasn’t clean (we have been cooking all day). And I decided, who cares?

So I took a photo of my messy kitchen.

A funny thing happened. It looks way better in this photo than in real life.

I think that’s because you can’t see the dirty dishes in the sink. But it you swipe in to look closer there is plenty of stuff on my counters. Including a terracotta pot from my garden.

But this is what I call a well used but slightly messy kitchen.

And I don’t care.

I am hoping you don’t either.

I made some really good gluten free sourdough banana bread and shared it in the blog this morning. Head to my stories for the link.

Can you see the bowl with the towel over it on the back counter in my photo? That is my first attempt at gluten free sourdough bread.

It has to rise 8 hours today and another 12 hours overnight.

Good thing I don’t have a pressing need for sourdough bread.

I just hope it’s worth the wait time.

I already have a request to make the sourdough banana bread again. There is no waiting around required for that recipe.

For years I have talked about making a sourdough starter.

But I never made one. I vaguely remember I was worried that I couldn’t guarantee that I would be home everyday to tend to it.

Well, I sure don’t have that problem now. So it seemed like the perfect time to make a gluten-free sourdough starter.

It was so simple. And it was ready in six days.

I was all excited to make a my first sourdough bread for today’s post but I forgot that I needed an extra day for the dough to rise. (It needs to rise twice, for about 20 hours.)

I decided to create instead a delicious Gluten-Free Sourdough Banana Bread Recipe.

Oh my. It’s the best banana bread I have ever had.

Head to my blog for the recipe for the starter and the bread. And be sure to check out the nine additional bread recipes my friends have added too!

Last night I cooked a very Romantic Dinner for my husband.

When I told him we were dining by the fireplace in the living room, he was like, “Huh?”.

Which is a man’s way of stalling while thinking they have forgotten your anniversary or birthday.

It wasn’t a special occasion. Just a Tuesday night surprise for the man I love.

You gotta try this. The link is in my stories.

And ... I also just shared a really cool service I signed up for that makes@my life so much easier.

Head to my stories to see what it is. And be sure to listen to the end!

I know Valentine's Day is over.

And I know it's the middle of the week.

But today I am sharing a surprise romantic dinner I created for my husband on a Tuesday night.

As in last night.

It was amazing.

Very unexpected and spontaneous.

And it was perfect.

I spent less than $20 on the dinner (we already had the wine) and we had the most wonderful evening.

You have to do this.

Head to my blog to learn how you can do this. You can find a link in my stories or tap on @my100yearoldhome and select the blue link.
