Home Tour and Summer Color Palette

I finally decided on our summer color palette and chose aqua! I am sharing our family room today and I hope you will like it as much as I do.

Summer Color Palette in the Family Room

We really love our family room. I know it looks different than before. But it is so much more functional and we all love it. Now that I have restyled our home with a new summer color palette I am thrilled to share it with all of you.

The New Family Room Layout

Before I share why I chose aqua for my summer color, I wanted to explain how we changed up our family room. If you recall, we used to have a table against these windows and the couch was much closer to the front.

We moved it as an experiment, to see what it would look like and if it work for our family.

I love it! The new seating area feels like a sunroom. It’s so bright (but not too bright) and comfortable at all hours of the day. The seating area is open but also quaint.

Our sectional is twenty years old! It is the Pottery Barn PB Basic. I also love the Pottery Barn PB Comfort Square Arm and it’s on sale.

Here you can see the before and after.

I did get a new slipcover for our couch (the other was way way too old!) and we love it. It looks so much better.

A Beachy Summer Color Palette

Aqua reminds me of the beach. And our beach house. There is a good reason!

I mentioned that we were starting a remodel soon on our beach house which means everything will be put into storage soon. So I decided to bring some of my favorite decor items from the beach house and use them here. I absolutely love how they look.

Before and After

In case you are wondering what happened with the pink, I decided it was time for a change. Our house has been pink for six months and I thought it would be fun to switch it up a bit. It’s a very easy change as all it took was pillows and accessories.

If you want to change up your decor, it is easy if you first decide on a color. Then just swap out some pillows and accessories and you will see an amazing change.

I made the pink and aqua pillows. You can find my tutorial to make a pillow here. They are not hard to make, but you do need a sewing machine.

So what do you think? It’s not a big change but I love how beachy and casual our family room feels. Plus, we won’t be spending a lot of time at the beach once construction starts so we will have to spend time in our pool instead. Hah!

I wanted to highlight some of the accessories. One of my favorites is this wonderful vintage gum machine that I found at the Rose Bowl Flea Market. Isn’t it fabulous? I don’t need to put gumballs in here because it looks awesome without them. We also have a cooking timer here. Why is it in our family room? It’s a timer for games!

The coffee table has some fun vintage and new items on it. I love the old dough bowl with the glass fishing floats. They are one of my favorite things to collect. I found the blue and aqua books at the Ventura Flea Market. There was a vendor who had a lot of books and he just laughed at me while I selected books by color. I honestly didn’t even pay attention to the titles.

The aqua bottles and the ceramic rooster are new. I found them at TJ Maxx or Home Goods. I bought them eight years ago when we bought the beach house and I still love them. They are perfect for my new summer color palette.

On our dining table, I placed an old wooden box and some vintage aqua ball jars. I added some of my handmade white paper flowers.
