The Best Gifts to Bring to a Dinner Party This Holiday Season
Today, I’m sharing the best gifts to bring to a dinner party this holiday season—thoughtful, stylish, and sure to impress.
The holiday season is upon us, and with it comes the flurry of dinner parties and gatherings that make this time of year so special. Whether you’re attending a formal soirée, a cozy Thanksgiving, a holiday party, or a casual family meal, bringing the perfect hostess gift is a thoughtful way to show appreciation. But with so many options, it can be hard to decide what to bring.
Best Holiday Dinner Gifts
Here is my list of the best gifts to bring to a dinner party this holiday season
1. Artisan Olive Oil or Balsamic Vinegar
A bottle of high-quality olive oil or balsamic vinegar is a luxurious yet practical gift. Choose an oil infused with flavors like rosemary or garlic or opt for a rich, aged balsamic vinegar. You can often find beautifully packaged options at specialty stores or local farmers’ markets. Pair it with a small baguette or a dipping dish to complete the gift.
I may sometimes use affiliate links on this blog, which means a small commission is earned if you purchase via the link. The price will be the same whether you use the affiliate link or go directly to the vendor’s website using a non-affiliate link.
2. Homemade Treats in Pretty Packaging
If you enjoy spending time in the kitchen, consider gifting something homemade. Seasonal cookies, spiced nuts, or a jar of homemade jam are always a hit. The key is to elevate your presentation. Place your treats in a mason jar or a decorative tin, and tie it up with a festive ribbon and gift tag. Your host will appreciate the personal touch—and they might even share your goodies during the party!
3. Festive Wine Charms
Wine charms are charming and functional, making them a great gift for a host who enjoys entertaining. Look for a set that aligns with the party’s theme or the season—think tiny snowflakes, holly leaves, or sparkly designs. If you’re feeling crafty, you can make your wine charms, as I did for my son’s rehearsal dinner. Personal touches always stand out and can become a conversation starter at the party.
4. A Beautifully Scented Candle
Candles are a classic hostess gift for a reason—they’re universally appreciated and add instant warmth to any home. Choose a candle in a seasonal scent like pine, cinnamon, or cranberry, and opt for elegant packaging that will blend seamlessly into your host’s decor. Bonus points if you pair the candle with a decorative matchbox or wick trimmer.
5. Seasonal Dish Towels or Linens
A set of holiday-themed dish towels, napkins, or even a small table runner can be a thoughtful and practical gift. Look for items in neutral colors or subtle patterns that will complement any decor style. Wrap them in a ribbon for a simple but elegant presentation.
6. A Bottle of Wine or Specialty Spirits
When in doubt, you can never go wrong with a good bottle of wine or a festive bottle of champagne. If your host prefers cocktails, consider bringing a specialty liquor like amaretto, spiced rum, or a small-batch gin. For a unique touch, include a handwritten note suggesting a cocktail recipe that features the spirit you’ve chosen.
7. Coffee or Tea Sampler Sets
A sampler set is a thoughtful and unique option if your host is a coffee or tea enthusiast. Look for a collection of holiday blends, like peppermint mocha coffee or spiced chai tea. To make the gift extra special, package it with a festive mug or a jar of homemade flavored sugar.
8. Decorative Serving Dishes
A small serving dish, cheese board, or set of appetizer plates can make a lovely hostess gift. Choose something timeless and versatile, like a marble cheese board or a ceramic platter with a subtle holiday motif. Your host can use it during the party or for future gatherings.
9. A Potted Plant or Seasonal Greens
Flowers are always appreciated, but they can require immediate attention—something a busy host might not have time for. Instead, bring a potted plant like a mini poinsettia, rosemary tree, or succulent. These last longer than cut flowers and can be enjoyed well beyond the holiday season.
10. Specialty Food Items
Bring a bit of gourmet flair to your host’s pantry with specialty food items. Think of truffle salt, artisanal honey, or a jar of high-end preserves. These small indulgences make cooking and entertaining feel more luxurious and will delight any food lover.
11. A Cozy Throw Blanket
A cozy throw blanket can be a wonderful gift for more intimate gatherings. Look for one in a soft material like fleece or knit, and choose a neutral or seasonal color. This gift feels personal and thoughtful, especially during the colder months.
I made the blanket in the photo.
12. Board Games or Puzzles
If your dinner party includes close friends or family, consider bringing a fun activity for after the meal. A compact board game or seasonal puzzle can spark laughter and conversation, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the evening.
13. Handmade Soaps or Bath Salts
Treat your host to a bit of self-care with a set of handmade soaps or bath salts. Look for options with seasonal scents like peppermint or eucalyptus, or create your own at home for a more personal touch. Package them in a small basket or wrap them in kraft paper for a charming presentation.
14. A Personalized Ornament
A personalized ornament can be a meaningful and memorable gift for holiday dinner parties. Look for options that can be customized with the host’s name, the year, or a special message. This is a great way to celebrate the season and leave a lasting impression.
15. Recipe Cards and a Kitchen Tool
If your host loves to cook, gift them a set of recipe cards along with a small kitchen tool, like a wooden spoon, silicone spatula, or a holiday-themed cookie cutter. You could even write a favorite recipe on the first card to inspire them!
Tips for Choosing the Perfect Hostess Gift
When selecting a gift for your host, keep these tips in mind:
• Consider the Host’s Interests: Think about what your host enjoys. Are they a foodie, a wine lover, or a home decor enthusiast? Choose a gift that aligns with their tastes.
• Keep It Practical: While extravagant gifts can be fun, practical items are often more appreciated. Choose something your host can use and enjoy.
• Mind the Presentation: A beautifully wrapped gift makes a great first impression. Take the time to package your gift thoughtfully with wrapping paper, ribbons, or a gift bag.
• Avoid Overly Personal Items: Unless you know the host well, avoid gifts that feel too personal, like clothing or perfumes. Stick to universal crowd-pleasers.
Bringing a gift to a dinner party isn’t just about tradition—it’s a meaningful way to express gratitude to your host for their time and effort. Whether you choose a gourmet treat, a practical kitchen item, or a festive keepsake, the thought and care you put into your gift will shine through.
This holiday season, embrace the joy of giving and make your dinner party contributions as memorable as the gatherings. Happy holidays!

Love all the ideas for gifts etc. I grew up in Essex and Tiptree jam was a must for us. They were famous for their strawberry jam which we serve with scones and clotted cream. I love the little trees on the wood slices in your first picture. Did you buy these or make them? If so, what are they made of and how? Yvonne.
I did make them. You can find the info in this blog post. https://my100yearoldhome.com/how-to-set-the-table-for-christmas-dinner/
