This year, I launched a new craft series titled ‘A Handmade Christmas.’

Five ceramic house-shaped ornaments labeled with different family names and surrounded by green and gold Christmas ornaments and miniature trees on a light wood surface.
Week eight

Way back in September (which feels like a year ago!), I started a weekly craft series featuring excellent homemade Christmas crafts.

Two handcrafted napkin rings rest on a wooden surface; one is white with the name "LESLIE" stamped on it, the other is green with an ornate, floral pattern.
Week three

I really pushed myself to create some unique crafts, and I can honestly say, I love every one of them.

Apparently, you do too!

My Biggest NOT Challenge This Week

A wooden dining table set with gold-rimmed plates, patterned napkins, clear glasses, wine glasses, and fall-themed floral centerpieces.

Please don’t laugh, but I couldn’t think of anything. I was struggling with this week. Instead, I am sharing one of my favorite annual events we host every November.

One of my favorite traditions is hosting our annual Friendsgiving with our dinner club. We’ve been gathering together for years, and it’s one of those nights that constantly fills our home and our hearts with laughter, warmth, and a lot of incredible food.

We hosted it last Sunday night.

This year’s Friendsgiving felt extra special. Maybe it was the golden glow of the candles, the sound of everyone talking at once, or just the feeling of comfort that comes from being surrounded by people who have shared so many memories.

A Cozy Setup for Ten

A dining room with a wooden table set for a meal, surrounded by mismatched chairs, yellow floral centerpieces, large windows, and a chandelier overhead.

With twelve of us coming for dinner, we decided to do something a little different. We moved two of our outdoor dining tables into the family room and pushed them together to create one large square dining table.

It turned out to be the perfect size; everyone could see each other, and it instantly felt more connected and intimate than a long, narrow table.

I set the table using all of my gold and yellow dinnerware, and the effect was stunning. The warm tones reflected beautifully in the candlelight, and the whole table glowed with that cozy, fall-inspired feeling I love.

I added textured linens, simple glassware, and just a touch of greenery down the center for a natural look. It was simple but elegant, precisely the kind of setting that lets the food and conversation shine.

Instead of traditional place cards, I decided to try something new. I used my Niimbot printer to create printed ribbons with each guest’s name. I tied them around the napkins, and they turned out even better than I imagined!

Everyone loved the idea, and I think I’ll do it again for future gatherings. It added such a personal touch without feeling too formal.

The Joy of a Potluck Feast

Our Friendsgiving dinners have always been potluck-style, which makes hosting so much easier, and honestly, so much more fun. Each couple brings a dish or two, and over the years, we’ve developed our own “signature” recipes that everyone looks forward to.

I smoked the turkey, and I have to say, this was the best turkey ever! Why? Because we used our Meater thermometer, which not only lets you track the temperature but also tells you what time the turkey will be done (while it’s cooking)! Plus, it tells you when to take it out and how long to let it rest. And it’s on sale for Black Friday.

The kitchen smelled amazing as dishes arrived: appetizers, stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, and, of course, a few incredible desserts. There was laughter as everyone squeezed around the kitchen island, filling plates and pouring wine. It’s that beautiful chaos that makes Friendsgiving feel so genuine, the overlapping conversations, the clinking of serving spoons, the stories that start mid-bite.

A Night to Remember

As the night went on, I looked around the table and couldn’t help but smile. Every seat was filled, every glass was full, and the room was buzzing with warmth and joy. We’ve all shared so many milestones, weddings, new homes, grandbabies, and big birthdays — and each year, Friendsgiving feels like a chance to pause and celebrate them all.

When I think about what made this Friendsgiving so meaningful, it wasn’t just the food or the pretty table (though I’ll admit, I loved how it turned out!). It was the togetherness, that rare and wonderful feeling of being surrounded by people who genuinely know and love you.

As we said our goodbyes and started stacking dishes, someone said, “Same time next year?” and everyone laughed and nodded. Of course, we will. It wouldn’t be fall without it.
