My Love for January and Sunday Morning Coffee

It might surprise you, but I have always loved January. While many people wouldn’t list it as a favorite month, I find it to be one of the most exciting, refreshing, and inspiring times of the year.

And yet, I am struggling this year as the past few weeks have been devastating in Southern California. But I am staying positive and hoping to bring peace to those who I know have been affected.

Thanks for joining me for Sunday Morning Coffee. This is a place to share, learn, explain, dream, and have fun.

Why January Is One of My Favorite Months

Sure, January has its challenges. The colder weather, shorter days, post-holiday blues, and the pressure of New Year’s resolutions can make it feel like an uphill climb for some.

But January is full of opportunity, peace, and creativity for me.

One of the reasons I love January is that it symbolizes a fresh start. The beginning of a new year brings a sense of renewal and endless possibilities. It’s invigorating to think about all the year could hold and set intentions for the months ahead.

There’s something incredibly motivating about turning the page to a blank chapter, ready to be written.

A Chance to Recharge

After the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, January offers a much-needed opportunity to slow down and recharge. The quiet calm of this month feels like a balm for my soul after the whirlwind of December. The pace of life feels gentler, which is exactly what I need to restore my energy.

The holidays are always a wonderful but busy time for our family, filled with events, decorating, and hosting. So when January arrives, it’s like a collective exhale. I use this time to enjoy slower mornings, cozy evenings, and more intentional routines.

Indoor Activities and Creative Pursuits

January is also perfect for indulging in indoor activities. The colder weather makes it the ideal time to cozy up with a good book, try new recipes in the kitchen, or focus on hobbies. For me, that means crafting! (I know you are shocked. Hehe.) I love diving into creative projects, whether it’s making air-dry clay hearts, experimenting with new DIY ideas, or planning home decor updates.

We are lucky to have mild winters, so we also take advantage of sunny days for outdoor walks, beach visits, and exploring nature. It’s an outstanding balance of indoor coziness and outdoor adventures.

Home Refresh Projects

January is when I start to make subtle but impactful changes to our home decor. With the holiday decorations packed away, the house feels like a blank canvas, ready for new inspiration.

I already have some projects slated to begin soon. I will update a guest bedroom and make changes in the third-floor living and bedroom areas to make them more liveable for long-term guests. I’m excited to finish the new look soon and share the transformation.

These small projects feel energizing and give our home a fresh start for the new year. It’s incredible how a few changes—like rearranging furniture, swapping out decor, or introducing a new color palette—can make a space feel completely different.

Reflection and Planning

Perhaps my favorite thing about January is the opportunity for reflection and planning. The calmness of the month makes it the perfect time to reflect on the past year—what worked, what didn’t, and what I’ve learned. I love analyzing my business, setting new goals, and planning the projects I want to tackle.

I’m a big believer in creating a roadmap for the year. January feels like the ideal time to lay the groundwork for everything I want to achieve personally and professionally. This process of setting intentions and creating actionable plans fills me with excitement and purpose.

Finding Joy in January

While January might not be a favorite for everyone, I truly believe it has much to offer. It’s a time to embrace the quiet, savor the small joys, and dream about the possibilities ahead. Whether it’s through creative pursuits, home projects, or moments of reflection, January is an opportunity to focus on what matters most.

(And, yes, I will finish Charlotte’s needlepoint stocking in March so I can start Graham’s!)

For me, this month isn’t just a time to survive—it’s a time to thrive. And I hope you’ll find your own reasons to love January as much as I do. Let’s make the most of it together!

My Latest Project

The Transformation of Our Third Floor Apartmenr

Tomorrow, I will start the reorganization of the third floor. We have a friend living with us full-time, and I want her (and her cats) to have a more comfortable living space.

Whether it is a week, months, or longer, we have a great space for someone needing a temporary place to live.

I want to make it feel like an apartment for her and anyone else who wants to visit.

Craft supplies in my 3rd floor craft room.

My most significant task is to reorganize my craft supplies and remove some ” stored ” items that I don’t need to keep. Don’t be fooled if that sounds easy; I have enough craft supplies to last a few years. For all of us!

Maybe that should be a weekly challenge on my blog … Craft projects from the supplies I already own.

I kind of like that. What do you think?

Many of you might have heard that my Facebook page, My 100 Year Old Home, was hacked on January 5th. I have lost complete control of it and have been working 24/7 to get it back.

It doesn’t seem that it should be complicated for Meta to return it to me.

I mean, seriously, how hard can it be, right?

Well, it’s way more complicated than I ever imagined. I have been working with Meta and their Veta Verified help desk, essentially bots that can’t understand a thing. Last week, I started working with real people at Meta, and for a week, I didn’t seem to be making much progress either.

But now, there may be something happening.

My fingers are crossed.
