Happy National Picnic Day and Sunday Morning Coffee

Today is National Picnic Day and I thought it might be fun to set up an amazing picnic in our backyard. Isn’t this gorgeous?

National Picnic Day is a day to celebrate the joy of eating and spending time outdoors with friends and family. It is celebrated annually on April 23rd in the United States. This is the day when people gather together in parks, backyards, and other outdoor spaces to enjoy a picnic. Today I partnered with Arhaus to create this amazing picnic for my family.

Picnic Ideas for Any Day

Choose the Perfect Location

The first step in planning a picnic is choosing the perfect location. Whether you prefer a nearby park, a beach, or your own backyard, make sure to choose a spot with plenty of space for your group.

I found the perfect location in the shade in our backyard. As you are planning your picnic, look for a location with shade, or bring along an umbrella or canopy to protect your group from the sun.

My Latest Project

This is actually one of my paintings that was hanging in the beach house before the remodel.

Now that the beach house is basically done, we are starting to invite family and friends to visit! Which means that I need to get the house ready for entertaining.

This was painted by a friend of mine from college, Val Johnson Trimarchi.

So I made a list of what needed to be done. And almost everything on the list was art for the walls.

You may not be aware that I am an artist and so I was pretty sure that I would be painting all new paintings for every room. But that means I need to find the time to paint, which I don;t have.

This is one of the bedrooms downstairs at the beach house.

So I found some inexpensive “temporary art” to hang on our walls.

Eventually, I will paint art for our beach house. Until then, this is a good alternative.

    My Biggest Challenge This Week

Here is the link to the painting.

How many times have you ever bought something that looked totally different than the photo?

That happened to me this week and it was so frustrating.

I bought this piece of artwork pictured above from Studio McGee at Target. And the photo is what it looked like online.

And here is what it looked like when it arrived. Wait, what????

What happened to the colors? Online it looked as if there was blue and gold in the painting. In real life, it’s actually brown and grey.

How and why would they advertise a painting with blue and gold in it when it really had brown and grey?

    So did I return it?

    No.

    Wait, what?

Here is the problem. The painting, considering the size and perfect color of the frame, was well-priced.

So I pulled out my acrylic paints and I fixed it. And added some blush and gold color to brighten it up to hang in a different room at the beach house. I might have also lightened some of the dark spots too.

This is actually not a real painting. Rather, it is a print of a painting. So I had a pretty good sense that adding a thin layer of paint wouldn’t be noticeable.

So I mixed up some paint to match the office at the beach house and painted on some pretty colors. How do you think it compares to the one pictured above?

What do you think? I like the subtle change.

I can’t believe this is the last week of April! How did that happen? We have a fun week planned with a DIY to make a wooden cake stand and some more Mother’s Day brunch recipes. We are also sharing three exciting things we finished at the beach house: the kitchen fixtures, lighting, and our new blinds in the primary suite. Lastly, I am sharing a very special rehearsal dinner.

    1. I love your picnic table set up and wanted to know if those were napkins or bandanas you have on the table and if you can send a link for them.
      Thanks!

    2. I just knew you would dabble some paint on that Target print that didn’t arrive as pictured. I found many years ago that sometimes prints are photographed differently from actual painting and you now see it for yourself. You did a great job, as usual, with turning the painting into something lovely, that fits your decor.

    3. I was excited about this topic, and hoping to see the photos of the food you made for your backyard picnic, as, after all, a picnic is about the food served and the fun of sharing it i with others in an outdoor setting. . All I saw though, was your table setting and a drink on a tray. No mention of food whatsoever? This is National Picnic Day! I already know how to put place mats on a table, but was truly hoping for some inspiration for the FOOD,

      1. Oh so sorry you felt disappointed! I was focused on more of the set up of the picnic- maybe a future post will hold some tasty recipes to add to your next picnic 🙏
