June Wreaths and Sunday Morning Coffee

|

In this week’s Sunday Morning Coffee, I am sharing the newest addition to my Window Wreath Template collection, including the newly released June wreaths and a look at how this creative project continues to grow.

I am also sharing my latest craft room adventure, where I finally taught myself appliqué embroidery and ended up making six adorable sweatshirts for our girls’ weekend in Ventura. And finally, I am reflecting on a book club evening inspired by Theo of Golden that I still cannot stop thinking about. Grab your coffee and join me as I share what worked this week, my latest project, and a few thoughts from the week behind us.

About Me

A woman stands in front of a black door holding a large paper with a wreath outline design, with house number 2036 visible above the door.

As we get ready for June, and the days seem to be flying by faster than ever, I am excited to share a few of the things that made this week especially memorable.

One of my favorite creative projects this year has been designing my monthly Window Wreath Templates. If you haven’t tried one yet, these hand-drawn wreath designs are created specifically to be traced onto windows and glass doors with a paint marker, making it easy to add a little seasonal charm to your home.

The templates are designed with clean, simple-to-trace lines, even if you don’t consider yourself artistic, and I love seeing how everyone puts their own spin on them.

This month, the June wreaths are now available, and I have also released the July and August collections.

You can find the June wreaths here, the July wreaths here, and the August wreaths here.

You can also select the full year of wreath templates if you want access to every design for every month.

Already purchased the yearly collection? You can log in and download them here right away.

If you have the yearly membership, you can now:

  • preview all of the summer wreaths
  • plan your designs ahead of time
  • choose your favorites early

That means there are now eight months of wreath templates available, with designs that take you from winter through the end of summer. The summer wreaths feature some of my favorite seasonal themes, including florals, coastal motifs, patriotic designs, and garden-inspired artwork.

Whether you choose to decorate a front door, a large picture window, or even a mirror, these wreaths are such a fun way to celebrate the seasons and add a personal touch to your home.

A white floral wreath design is drawn on a window, with green trees and foliage visible outside through the glass.

Seeing your finished wreaths remains one of the highlights of this project, and I cannot wait to share even more designs as we head into fall.

My Latest Project

My Latest Project

I taught myself appliqué embroidery this week, and I have to admit, I am completely hooked.

For years, I have admired beautifully appliquéd sweatshirts, towels, and gifts, but I had never taken the time to learn the process. Once I finally sat down and figured it out, I couldn’t believe how straightforward it was.

A sewing machine embroiders large outlined letters onto a peach-colored fabric held in place by an embroidery hoop.

Appliqué embroidery is basically a three-step process. First, you hoop your stabilizer and fabric and stitch the placement line, which outlines exactly where the appliqué fabric will go.

Next, you place the appliqué fabric over the stitched outline and run a tack-down stitch to secure the fabric in place. Then comes the slightly nerve-racking part, trimming away the excess fabric as close to the stitching as possible.

Finally, you place the hoop back in the machine and run the finishing stitch, which covers the raw edges and creates that beautiful, polished look.

Of course, once I learned how to do it, I immediately found a project that required me to make six of them.

This weekend, my closest girlfriends and I have been in Ventura, and I decided everyone needed matching appliqué sweatshirts for the trip. What started as a simple “practice project” quickly turned into a full production line in my craft room. There were stacks of sweatshirts, piles of fabric scraps, embroidery thread everywhere, and I was happily running my embroidery machine almost nonstop.

Getting ready for the last step.

The best part is that every sweatshirt turned out differently, and they are absolutely adorable. I wanted subtle colors, and I can’t wait to share them with you because I know many of you have asked about learning machine embroidery and appliqué techniques.

It is one of those skills that looks complicated until you understand the process, and then suddenly all kinds of creative possibilities open up.

I promise I’ll share the finished sweatshirts soon. For now, let’s just say my embroidery machine and I became very good friends this week!

What Worked This Week

Without question, hosting my Theo of Golden book club dinner was the highlight of my week. Even now, I still find myself thinking about that evening and smiling.

There was something so special about bringing the story to life for my friends, from transforming our home into “Chalice” to creating charcoal portraits for each guest and writing personalized notes signed by Theo. The Portuguese music, green wine, wonderful conversation, and thoughtful discussions about the book created an atmosphere that felt warm and meaningful, unlike any book club I have ever hosted.

Nine women are seated around a wooden dining table set with pink plates, napkins, flowers, and lamps in a well-lit living room.

What I loved most was watching my friends discover their portraits hanging on the wall and seeing how touched they were by the personal notes. The entire evening was a beautiful reminder that the smallest acts of kindness often have the greatest impact, which is exactly why I loved the book so much. Weeks later, I am still replaying moments from that night in my head. It was one of those rare evenings where everything came together perfectly, and I know it will remain one of my favorite entertaining memories for a very long time.

  1. Hi Leslie! Love all your creativity, but especially the window wreaths. You mentioned in your post about putting them on mirrors also. Have you put in a post how to do this and I missed it? I can’t quite figure out how to do it. Any help would be appreciated!
    Thank you!

    1. You have to project them on mirrors to trace. It’s pretty easy if you have a projector. Leslie
