Things I Have Learned About Myself and Sunday Morning Coffee

|

There are weeks when everything feels busy and full, and then there are weeks when you find yourself thinking a little more than usual.

This has been one of those weeks for me, and it led me to something I didn’t expect to write about. The things I have learned about myself.

A woman in a pink sweater stands at a kitchen counter with a flower arrangement, in front of large windows with a clock on the wall.

Thanks for joining me for Sunday Morning Coffee. This is a place to share, learn, explain, dream, and have fun.

About Me

A woman stands in front of shelves filled with colorful fabric rolls, next to a sewing machine in a well-organized craft room.

Lately I have been thinking about something I didn’t expect to be thinking about at this stage in my life.

What I have actually learned about myself.

You would think after all these years I would have this completely figured out, but I don’t.

What I am realizing is that learning about yourself is not something you finish. It keeps evolving, just like everything else.

But I do know a few things now that I didn’t always know.

I have learned that I need to create. Not just occasionally, but regularly.

It is not just something I enjoy, it is something that grounds me and makes everything else feel more balanced.

A sewing room with fabric bolts, thread spools, sewing machines, and crafting supplies neatly organized on shelves and a pegboard above a white worktable.

I have learned that I love sharing what I create just as much as making it. There is something incredibly rewarding about teaching, explaining, and connecting with all of you in a way I never expected when I started this journey.

I have learned that I don’t love rushing. I used to think I needed to move quickly from one project to the next, but I am starting to appreciate the space in between. The pause, the reset, the time to think. That space has become just as important as the creating.

I have learned that I like things organized, but not perfect. I want systems that work, spaces that function, and projects that feel intentional, but I have let go of the idea that everything needs to be just right.

And maybe the most surprising thing is this. I have learned that I still want to try new things. I still want to experiment, to learn, to grow, and even change how I do things. That part of me has not gone anywhere, and I hope it never does.

So while I don’t have all the answers, I think I am finally getting better at asking the right questions.

And for now, that feels like enough.

My Latest Project

My Latest Project

Spools of colored thread, embroidery scissors, a metal sewing bracket, and a pack of tear-away embroidery stabilizer are arranged on a light surface.

I have been working on something behind the scenes that pushed me more than I expected.

It is one of those projects that felt big from the start. Not just in size, but in the number of decisions, the time involved, and the patience it required. There were moments when I wondered if I had taken on too much, and more than once I thought about simplifying it.

But I didn’t.

Instead, I kept going, one step at a time, figuring things out as I went. And in the end, it was absolutely worth it.

This project reminded me of something I have learned over and over again. The things that feel the hardest to start are often the most rewarding to finish. Not because they are perfect, but because you pushed yourself to do something new.

It is also part of something new I am starting, and I am really excited about it. A shift toward sharing more of the process, not just the finished result. More of the how, the decisions, and even the parts that don’t always go smoothly.

I think you are going to love it.

And I can’t wait to share it with you tomorrow on my first weekly post in the series called Mondays in the Craft Room.

What Worked This Week

A clear swimming pool in the foreground with a large white house, green lawn, and tall trees in the background under a blue sky.

Getting ahead of summer is what worked this week.

Living in Southern California means the seasons don’t always wait, and summer seems to arrive a little earlier every year. Instead of feeling behind, I decided to lean into it. I focused on everything that helps our home feel ready for the season, and it made such a difference.

This week I shared several blog posts, all centered on getting your home ready for summer, and I realized, as I was writing them, that I was also doing all of those things myself. I planted everything in my raised vegetable beds, which always feels like the official start of the season for me. There is something so satisfying about seeing those beds filled and knowing what is ahead.

A person uses a pressure washer, an Amazon Find, to clean dirt and grime off a brick wall, revealing the brighter color of the clean bricks.

I also pulled out the pressure washer and gave our outdoor spaces a deep clean. It is one of my favorite projects because the results are immediate and dramatic. Everything looks brighter, cleaner, and ready to be used again.

And of course, I ordered new outdoor cushions. This is always the final step for me. It is such an easy way to refresh a space and make everything feel finished and intentional.

Wooden benches surround a glass-top fire pit on a brick patio next to a pool, shaded by large trees in a garden setting.

All of these small projects added up to something bigger. I feel like our home is almost ready for summer, and that feeling is so good.
