Hello Spring and Sunday Morning Coffee
Hello Spring! In Los Angeles today, it will be 85 degrees. So even though it is mid-February apparently spring has arrived!
As the world watches the Super Bowl today, which is in my town, there will be people wearing shorts. Crazy, right? While it might seem unseasonably warm, it is so nice for Los Angeles to be able to host the Super Bowl by showing off with spectacular weather.
Season 2 Volume 6
Thanks for joining me for Sunday morning coffee. Today I am sharing my weekly thoughts about entertaining, decor, crafts, and recipes.
What a serendipitous day it is today. The Super Bowl and Winter Olympics are on television, and Valentine’s Day is only one day away!
I might have misspoke when I said hello spring, because I realize many of you are dealing with cold weather. The weather here is just so warm and I cannot believe it is so hot!
Which makes me want to entertain in our backyard again.
Hopefully that will be soon.
To give you a little background, we bought our home in 1998 from my husband’s parents. In 2000 we did a remodel which consisted of building a new kitchen, family room, two bathrooms and the outdoor area. We added the covered porch, fireplace, patio and more. (The area on the left is our outdoor kitchen but we added that, and the pool, a few years later.)
My goal with the remodel was to create an outdoor area where we could enjoy our wonderful weather year round. These past few years we have had a lot of fun with our boys enjoying the backyard.
In fact, all of these parties are ones I created for our family these past few years.
This was one of my favorites. I loved this table setting.
So what do I have planned for this spring?
I cannot wait to share my plans and ideas for entertaining, crafts, and decor.
And gardening! I am going to be starting very soon on all of our raised beds and flower gardens.
I love that I can start early on things here in Southern California and share them here.
In a few weeks I will start planting cut flower gardens. I am so excited as I can’t wait to start using flowers for entertaining from our backyard.
Something New
One of my goals this year is to learn and create new things. I am going to push myself to learn calligraphy. And become a better gardener. And I want to get better at upholstery, jewelry making, and tufting.
But what I really want to do is create more new ideas. Things no one else has made. That is what I love to do.
So get ready.

I spent so much time in our kitchen this week. By far my favorite activity was making the buttercream flower cupcakes.
Valentine’s Day always keeps my busy but tomorrow I will be here all morning getting ready for the Super Bowl.
I am very excited for the game and cannot wait to watch the Rams. Fortunately I have a perfect view of our TV from our island so I won’t miss a thing!
My friend Janine at Happy Happy Nester shared this amazing Dried Flower Arrangement. This would be amazing all year long!
My friend Jen from Tatertots and Jello shared her Craft Room Office. I love what she has done and her Dream Box (you have to go to her blog and see what it looks like when it is opened!) is amazing!
My friend KariAnne shared her before and after painted floor bedroom. That floor is amazing!
I found an interesting article on Apartment Therapy titled How Often Should You Vacuum Under Your Bed. The answer was very interesting. Any guesses?
Chris from Chris Loves Julia shared a recipe titled Roasted Beets You’ll Wanna Eats. It looks delicious!
Wow, what a week we had. Thank you so much for your enthusiasm for my DIY’s. The white paper bag wreath and Buttercream Flower Cupcakes were so much fun to make. I love it when I try so,thing new and it turns out really well. The painted dish towels are a very fun DIY and I so happy a lot of you are going to make them. The Valentine tables, Charcuterie Board and Carnations were also very fun posts to put together.

Good morning Leslie. Had my kids over for pizza last night and one of my daughters loved my gray pom pom pillow. I gave it to her because I am in the process of making another one. It’s so cute and I think I will be making a few for gifts. Such a great craft. Thanks for all your great ideas!
How kind of you! I am so glad you enjoy making that pillow. Thanks so much, Carol!
Gorgeous! I love all of your beautiful posts.
Thanks so much, Rebecca!
Hi Leslie, I just wanted to share with you that my husband and I celebrated Valentines Day last evening. After reading about how you and your husband have been celebrating at home I decided that would be a perfect way to enjoy the holiday with each other. I set our table with a red runner and spelled out LOVE with a pearl garland strand and used candles and cupids and the Valentine flowers I received and the cards from each other. It was so beautiful! The menu was your Crab cake recipe with the dill sauce!! I made them larger than the appetizer size, and served a nice salad. I think it was the best Valentines Day we’ve ever had. Thank you!!!
Thanks so much Debra! I am so glad you and your husband enjoyed your Valentine’s celebrations. I am so, so happy that I was able to help you with your special day.
Loved the rose cupcakes! They turned out beautiful. I’ve always wanted to learn calligraphy too. Always have loved how elegant it can look. Hopefully you will do a blog on it and share how you learned. Have a wonderfully CA sunny Super Bowl Sunday.
I’m hoping to get the opportunity to meet you in person st the Barnhouse Chicks Event in Camarillo in a couple of weeks!!
Thanks so much!
As always, so enjoy your posts. You inspire me to do more and when I do, I credit ‘you’.
Ah you are so kind, thank you!
Hi Leslie
Here in south central Ontario, we have furnaces and close pools for winter. Query, do you have to close your pool?, do you have a furnace? What happens if there is one of those once in a 100 years freeze?
Regarding this post, were the family room, kitchen renovations an addition to the original flootprint? Woud you consider publishing a floorplan of your endearing home?
Thank you for being the first blog I read each day.
