Patriotic Decor for Entertaining

4th of July Patriotic Decor Ideas

I don’t know what kind of 4th of July events you have planned, but we will have a lot of fun dinners at the beach house and have family in town. Yay!

As much as I love red, white, and blue, I also like blue and white for patriotic decor. So, to do something a little different, I thought I would create a predominantly blue-and-white table.

But don’t worry; I have lots more red, white, and blue crafts and decor ideas on my blog to share.

Blue and White Patriotic Decor

I just might have been giggling while we set up this table. The setting was perfect – exquisite but straightforward.

We are just less than a week until the 4th of July and I wanted to share some fun patriotic decor you can make to help you celebrate the weekend!

I am very proud of my garden on the side of the Carriage House, and I loved setting this table right next to it.

Next, I added the DIY placemats, napkins, silverware, and glasses. I love this simplicity, and it is patriotic without being too much. There is a chance I will make another set this week with red, white, and blue fabric. I need more for all of our dinner parties!

Don’t these plates look great? I love them, and my Rae Dunn USA plates are just perfect. Sadly, they are no longer made.

4th of July Patriotic Placemats and Napkins

I selected these three fabrics from an assortment of 4th of July fabrics. The pom-pom trim is smaller, and I am so excited to use it on my napkins.

I made the napkins from the fabrics and trim. I also made the placemats from cotton rope cord and used some fabric as a highlight.

Pom Pom Napkins

What You Will Need to Make Four Napkins

1 1/3 yards of cotton fabric (43″ – 45″ wide) – You can now find Patriotic cotton fabric everywhere.

Six yards of small-sized pom pom trim

Thread and a sewing machine

How to Make the Pom Pom Napkins

  1. If you are using 45″ fabric, rip the cotton fabric to get a straight edge. Measure a 21.5″ wide strip of fabric. Tear it and tear it again to make a 21.5″ square. Prepare four squares.

2. With a hot iron, fold over 1/4″ and fold over again. Iron until flat and secure.

Place the trim under the folded edge of the napkin and sew next to the edge.

When you reach the corner, fold the trim loosely around the corner and sew accordingly.

These napkins were not difficult to make, so I decided to try my hand at making rope-cording placemats.

I can’t believe how great they turned out!

How to Make Rope Cording Placemats

I purchased two of these cotton piping 3/16″ (50 yards). They also have larger quantities.

What You Need to Make Cotton Cording Placemats

Cotton cording – about 20 yards per placemat

1″ wide strips of torn fabric

Thread and sewing machine

Start the placemat by winding the cord in a 1 1/2″ circle. Use straight pins to secure, then sew across with a zigzag stitch. Sew from 12:00 to 6:00 on the circle and from 3:00 to 9:00 on the same circle. Go back and zig-zag between the edges of the cord.

Continue wrapping the cord around the circle and securing with a zig-zag stitch.

The best way to keep your stitches centered is to align the center of the pressure foot with where the edges of the cording meet. It’s effortless, and if you follow that tip, you can sew pretty fast. Keep sewing around and around, stopping every one-inch width of sewn cord to add the fabric.

To add the fabric, take a 1″ torn strip of fabric and wrap it around the cording. Sew the placemat together just as before.

Once you have reached the desired size, tuck the edge under the cording and zig-zag back and forth a few times. That’s all it takes to make one of these fabulous placemats.

I suggest you make the finished outside edge from the cording and not cover it with fabric.

I used vintage transferware plates and my Rae Dunn patriotic plates for my table setting. It’s fun to combine my sterling silver and silver plate, even for a backyard barbecue.

My Latest Project

My Latest Project

White wreath and star designs are drawn on a glass window. Green leafy plants and trees are visible outside through the glass.

One of my favorite monthly projects is creating a new collection of my window wreath templates, and I’m so excited to share the brand-new July designs!

These printable templates make it easy to trace beautiful seasonal wreaths right onto your windows with a paint marker, creating custom artwork that looks hand-drawn.

This month’s collection is full of summer-inspired designs that are perfect for brightening your home throughout the season. Whether you’ve been tracing them all year or you’re trying them for the first time, I think you’re going to love these new July wreaths. They’re simple, creative, and such a fun way to celebrate the season.

Nine black-and-white July wreath templates are arranged in a grid, each labeled with a number and dimensions ranging from 17" x 17" to 25" x 25".

This month, the July wreaths are now available, and I have also released the August collection.

You can find the June wreaths here, the July wreaths here, and the August wreaths here.

You can also select the full year of wreath templates if you want access to every design for every month.

Already purchased the yearly collection? You can log in and download them here right away.

If you have the yearly membership, you can now:

  • preview all of the summer wreaths
  • plan your designs ahead of time
  • choose your favorites early

That means there are now eight months of wreath templates available, with designs that take you from winter through the end of summer. The summer wreaths feature some of my favorite seasonal themes, including florals, coastal motifs, patriotic designs, and garden-inspired artwork.

Whether you choose to decorate a front door, a large picture window, or even a mirror, these wreaths are such a fun way to celebrate the seasons and add a personal touch to your home.

What Worked This Week

Two canvas tote bags, one with pink handles and one with blue handles, each decorated with striped fish-shaped keychains, placed on a table indoors.

I think we can all take a deep breath because we survived Amazon Prime Day! It was definitely a whirlwind week, and I spent countless hours searching for the very best deals to share with all of you. I know so many of you wait for Prime Day to make bigger purchases or stock up on favorite items, so I always want to make it as easy as possible by narrowing down the thousands of deals to the ones that are actually worth buying.

Even though Prime Day is officially over, don’t pack away your shopping lists just yet. I’ve already noticed that some of my favorite products are still available at Prime Day pricing, while others are only slightly higher. If there was something you had your eye on but didn’t get a chance to order, it’s definitely worth taking another look because there are still some great bargains to be found.

I do have one small confession. I hope my latest A Handmade Summer project didn’t get lost among all of the Prime Day excitement! This week, I shared my DIY polymer clay bag charms, and I had so much fun making them.

They are colorful, inexpensive, and one of those crafts that makes me smile every time I see them hanging from a tote bag or purse. I loved experimenting with paper napkin designs and turning simple pieces of clay into something so personal and unique.

If you missed the tutorial while we were all busy shopping, I hope you’ll go back and take a look. Sometimes the simplest projects are the most rewarding, and I truly hope I inspired some of you to make your own bag charms this summer.

They would make wonderful gifts, fun projects to do with friends, or even something special to create with your grandchildren.

This week's to do list.

  • Finish making more Ventura sweatshirts and new bag charms.
