Winter Decor in the Living Room
I was so sure that I would miss the Christmas decor when it all came down. But guess what? I love my new winter decor ideas just as much!
Sometimes, it feels a little bare when all of the festive holiday decorations are packed into boxes and put away. Winter decor is the perfect antidote to perk up any room in your home!
A Winter Color Palette to Cheer Up a Room
It’s a new year and so far, so good!
I am so happy that the Christmas decor is all safely stored in the attic. And I love my new winter decor palette … taupe and sage green.
All it took to cheer up my un-Christmased home was some fun winter decor and color.
I have to confess something.
Apparently, I already own a lot of taupe and sage green winter decor items. Every time I open a cabinet or closet, I find some taupe and sage green items. Who knew?
Sage Green Anonymous
I have always loved the color sage green.
When we first moved to our one hundred year old home, twenty-three years ago, I was in love with everything sage green. I painted our kitchen and Butler’s Pantry sage green and there was a little bit of sage green throughout our entire home.
OK, so maybe it was a lotta bit.
I kept adding sage green and it finally got so bad that my girlfriends suggested I join Sage Green Anonymous.
Don’t worry, I googled it. There is no such thing. I knew they were kidding but I was pretty addicted.
So I left the paint on the walls (it’s still there) and took a long break from sage green. Not a total break, but over time most of the sage green disappeared.
Fast forward twenty-three years later and it’s been so much fun rediscovering sage green again.
The good news is, apparently, I didn’t toss everything that was sage green in our home.
Thank goodness!

Winter Decor
I love this area in our living room. Do you remember we used to have a baby grand piano here? We were babysitting the baby grand and last summer it went back to its owner.
I love the seating area I have here and the small table is perfect for reading, working, and dining! I grabbed some fun sage green items in our home including an old green wood ice cream maker!
Take note that it only takes a few colorful accessories in a room to add color to a neutral room.
With all of the rain we are having in Southern California I am loving our fireplace so much!
Winter Colors
I also like to add more texture to my winter decor. I found these twine balls up on the third floor in a bag with faux persimmons. As you can guess, my organization up there still needs a lot of work!
I try to keep a few neutral holiday items that can work with my winter decor. These glass trees are perfect on the vintage counter in our living room. You will also see a few vintage green Christmas balls in a few other rooms in our home!
I didn’t touch the bookshelves as they are almost always neutral. It sure makes decorating easier that way!

I love the clear glass table lamps I always see in your living room. Do you know where they where purchased:)
Hi Sharon! I purchased the table lamps from Restoration Hardware about 20 years ago. I do love them 😍 I hope you can find similar elsewhere!
What color is on the living room wall? I like that it is not too light but just a hint of color.
Hi Sandra! Here is a link to all the house colors 🤗

I too, love sage green, but I find it to be a difficult color to find in accent pieces. Actually, my favorite combo is a soft pink and sage green accents, bathed in a background of shades of white. Yum!
Hi Cassandra! Oh that sounds like a lovely combo of colors, pink compliments sage so well 🙌🏻💕
These are such great ideas to add a little color after the holidays. My white kitchen nook is naked! Lots of white but I need to incorporate some pretty touches of sage green! It looks soooo pretty in your rooms. It is amazing to me how little touches of color change the look and feel of the room.
