Sharing Joy and Thankfulness on This Mother’s Day – Sunday Morning Coffee
On this Mother’s Day, let’s take a moment to celebrate the joy and thankfulness that mothers bring into our lives.
From the moment we become parents, mothers share an unending love and connection with their children. They are our first teachers and mentors, shaping us into the people we are today. However you choose to celebrate the day, do it with joy and thankfulness in your heart.

Thanks for joining me for Sunday morning coffee. Today I am sharing my weekly thoughts about entertaining, decor, crafts, recipes, and the thankfulness that I have for all of you and some special people in my life. You are the best!
A Little Bit About Me
Today as it is my first Mother’s Day without my mom. I miss her and my dad terribly and often cannot believe they are both gone. I have been in a funk all week about Mother’s Day until I realized I was looking at today completely wrong.
I am so thankful for having had the most incredible mother. She taught me so many things, including my love for crafts, cooking, and entertaining. I wish she was here to celebrate her today and yet I know that I celebrate her everyday in everything that I do.
That is because the greatest gift she gave me was a lifetime example of how to be a wonderful mother.
I have always said I was put on this earth to raise our three sons. Even though they are grown and not living in our home, I am so grateful for how close we all are. I am so blessed and grateful for our family … my sons, my husband and my daughter in law Charlotte.
They make me so proud everyday and have allowed me to enjoy the best job in the world … being a mom.
As my thoughts progressed from sadness to thankfulness, it made me realize that today is a wonderful day to stop and think how lucky we are for so many things. If you are struggling today, or missing a loved one, please remember how many people are thankful for you!
I looked it up and the definition of thankfulness is “the feeling of being happy or grateful for something”. Being grateful is such a wonderful expression and we do have things to be thankful for, especially today.
You all have made my “job” so incredible and I am forever thankful that you like my ideas and you take time to leave such wonderful comments. Every time one of you tries one of my recipes or makes one of my pillows, my heart swells. I started My 100 Year Old Home with hopes that I could share my passion for crafts, decor, and entertaining. Each time you step away from your phone or computer screen, and take one of my ideas into your home, I am grateful.
I also want to thank you for supporting me with my affiliate links. As I have mentioned before, every time you click on one of my Amazon or affiliate links, and make a commission, I earn a commission. It doesn’t cost you more and yet that’s one of the ways I make a living.
A special thanks goes out to all of my fellow Instagramers and Bloggers who have been so incredible and supportive and shared a lot of my posts on their own feeds. You know who you are and I am so grateful. Next week I am going to be sharing some of my friends every single day. I cannot wait, so keep an eye out for these shares on my Instagram feed and stories.
Most importantly, I want to thank and show my appreciation to my best friend, Mary Liz. She joined MY 100 Year Old Home full time in November and we have been working side by side since. Although we are still figuring out how to navigate this incredible journey (as in not work quite so hard!), I do want you all to know what a huge contribution she has made these past six months.
Mary Liz is a wonderful cook and an incredible stylist. If you are thinking things have “stepped up a bit” at My 100 Year Old Home, now you know why!
I miss you so much mom. But thank you for the gift you give me everyday.
Dinner with Friends
Sharing Thankfulness
Last Saturday night we hosted a Dinner with Friends for family and friends in Waco who had helped me with the remodel of our Airbnb. It was the least I could do to to show my thankfulness to each one of them. The entire evening I was thinking that I need to show more gratitude to all of you and so I came up with the idea to host a Dinner for Friends. For you!
Now of course I can’t prepare a dinner for all of you. But we are starting with one in October in Waco, and if you are interested in attending, click on Would you Like to Join me at my Table for Dinner with Friends?

Around Our Home
How To Make Your Home Comfortable for Guests
Many of you now that I spent the last week in Waco. Our home is an Airbnb and I spent months coming up with ways to create a comfortable environment for our guests.
That got me to thinking that I should share with you some of my ideas of how you can make your home comfortable for guests, and you! These ideas can be used in your own home, or in your guest room. I use most of these ideas in our boys rooms so when they come to visit they are really comfortable and hopefully, never want to leave!
A Restful Nights Sleep
Bedrooms are really about sleeping so having a comfortable sleeping environment is key!
A good night’s sleep starts with a comfortable bed and I am finally replacing some of our old mattresses that have been relegated to our extra bedrooms. My favorite cotton sheets are amazing and still look like new. They are on every bed in our Waco home.
Temperature is important when sleeping so you might want to consider a lightweight blanket, especially if your beds have comforters. This Cotton Matelassé Blanket is perfect and comes in a lot of different colors.
I also love to leave water next to the bed and whether you have a vintage bedside decanter or this Bedside Carafe and Glass, either is a great option.
A Spa Environment
Anytime I can create a Spa feeling for our guests it is a good thing, right?
Actually I think you should do this in your home for you. Remember, you are the best!
A spa environment starts with nice robes, and this Plush Robe is such a great buy! I love white towels, even in our airbnb, and these Luxury Hotel Towels are wonderful.
I had our robes and towels embroidered with our Airbnb logo and oh my gosh, they look so amazing! Why not add a name of your home on your guest towels and robes?
I am obsessed with these Microfiber Makeup Remover Cloths. They are even embroidered! Not only do they protect your white towels from make-up stains but their microfiber texture is amazing. I get comments from my gusts about these all of the time. They come in black and pink and I am sure you can guess what color I have at our home.
I always have a Hair Dryer and I recently added Cotton Hair Dryer Storage Bags to our Airbnb.
Easy Electronics
We use so many electronics these days, charging a laptop and phone and Kindle and apple watch can be crazy!
The first thing you need to do is make sure there is an outlet that is accessible for use. I remember the days where I would spend forever trying to find an outlet by the bed in a hotel room. You don’t want your guests to have to do the same!
This Weighted Cord Organizer is something that every bedside table needs. A light dimmer makes it so much easier for guests to turn off or adjust the light. Add some 6′ Flexible Charging Cords and your guests are set.
Also, music is a great option for guests and I like the Alexa Echo because anyone can easily turn it on or change the music with just their voice.
Reflections on the Week
This week was very busy as usual. We traveled back from Waco after an incredibly busy week and finalized our monthly Editorial Calendar on the plane ride home.
I had so many things to share about the Dinner with Friends and as promised, I shared every single recipe! I also shared how to make crepe paper poppies and peonies without using a cutting machine and our new game table area in our Living Room.
The highlight was the announcement of the Dinner with Friends (aka you!) in October in Waco.
My Favorite Vintage Finds
In the Family Room
Have you ever heard of a white splint basket? My friend Marian at Miss Mustard Seed shares hers.
My dear friend KariAnne at Thistlewood Farms shared these vintage pennants forever ago on her blog. Are these not incredible? And why am I just seeing them now? Please don’t tell KariAnne that ever since I saw them I have been scouring the internet for some too.

What’s Ahead
I have another fun week planned for us! tomorrow I am sharing one of my favorite kitchens, followed by a lot of really great projects for the Carriage House. I have a Milk Paint DIY, a new flower arranging area, and an outdoor potting bench (that used to be in the Carriage House). I am also doing a home tour and a Paper craft.
Doesn’t that sound fun?

Hi Leslie, I’m such a huge fan of yours. Thank goodness for Grace Rose farms. This is where I learned about you. Will you be sharing some ideas for Memorial Day/ Fourth of July table decorating ideas? Your decor is amazing and I’ve shopped a ton on Amazon from your site/suggestions.
Please give me the name of the sheets and where can l purchase them. I love your home.
Leslie – When I opened my email this morning and read your Sunday Morning Coffee (my weekly morning thing to do) and your Happy Mother’s Day to all of us – it literally brought tears. Such a great reminder of all the little life’s lessons that can so often get lost in the hassle and bustle of life. I had to share it with my family and friends. Thank you. Happy Mother’s Day to you.

Leslie, when those days come and you are missing your parents so much, just look in the mirror and you will see a reflection of their love, inspiration, guidance, and everything they have taught you reflected right back. You are wonderful because they were wonderful. Happy Mother’s Day
Oh my gosh Mary, this is the sweetest note. Thank you so much for your kind words, this means so much to me! I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day. Thank you!
