Modern Abstract Art and Sunday Morning Coffee

|

Did you all know I am an artist? For years I painted traditional oils and then modern abstract art. Today I am sharing my favorite collection I painted!

It’s all about Project Runway. What? A few years ago I painted over forty large abstract paintings which were all inspired by dresses created on Project Runway. I can’t wait to share them with you!

Season 2 Volume 5

Thanks for joining me for Sunday morning coffee. Today I am sharing my weekly thoughts about entertaining, decor, crafts, and recipes and I thought it might be fun to share a side of me most of you aren’t familiar with … painting modern abstract art!

I love to paint and for years I painted abstract paintings. The painting above is one I painted and it is hanging in the dining room of our Waco home.

Sunday Morning Coffee

I love sharing things from my past and the other day my girlfriends and I started talking about one of my favorite shows, Project Runway. It reminded me of the collection I painted a few years ago that was inspired by the dresses created on Project Runway. I am hoping you like it!

So how did I create this collection of paintings?

Painting Modern Abstract Art

I found forty dresses that I loved from the show and then I used them as the inspiration for the modern abstract art paintings I created. The dress above is covered in dots so I painted a painting in a similar color palette with circles! Most of the paintings were large. In fact, this painting was 36″ square!

Sometimes I had to get really creative and for this painting below, I added a collage. I printed paper and glued it to the canvas to incorporate the houndstooth pattern of the fabric!

My Project Runway Inspired Modern Abstract Art

Here are the forty-five paintings I created for the Project Runway Collection.

I would love to know what you think. Do you remember any of these dresses from the show? Which painting is your favorite?

Writing this post has definitely made me want to start painting abstracts again. Of course, I am so busy it might be hard to find the time!

Something New

I have been in Waco all week and had the most amazing time. I joined four other bloggers for a few days of brainstorming and all I can say is WOW! There are so many exciting things happening and I cannot wait to share them all with you.

We spent all week learning about some amazing new products for bloggers and influencers. I learned all about the Reconalist Content Strategy Portal. It started with an extensive audit of my blog. For those of you who are struggling with SEO and how to grow your organic traffic, this is the most incredible solution. The portal tells you exactly what to do because it is based on all of your data from your google analytics. It shares how to plan your editorial calendar, which older posts to post (and when), an email topic generator, and more.

Of course, my brain hurts! We spent a lot of time brainstorming and thinking outside of the box! These gals are all amazing.

I am so excited, motivated, and encouraged about my plans for the future.

We spent the entire week in our Waco Airbnb and I have to say I am even more in love with our kitchen!

The Waco kitchen is a wonderful place to cook and entertain. I loved making dinners for my girlfriends here.

The kitchen island is a vintage store counter I found at the Round Top antique show. Sometimes it looks gray and often times it looks blue. I love the color so much and it is what first caught my attention when I saw this vintage piece.

Today I am sharing something from my friends who were in Waco with me this week!

My friend KariAnne from Thistlewood shared Eight Simple DIY Winter Projects.

Laurie from Tip Junkie has 30 Meal Planning Templates available for you!

Amy from Living Locurto made this amazing recipe for Buffalo Roasted Cauliflower for us last night. It was amazing!

Oops, there are only three.

This past week was very pink as I am getting ready for Valentine’s Day. I had so much fun sharing all of these ideas. I hope you will click on the links if you missed any.

I get asked all of the time about the decor in our Waco AirBnB. Below are links to some of my favorite decor items in my Waco AirBnb.

Eat Fruit!

Did you know you should eat three servings of fruit a day as part of your healthy diet? Some of the healthiest fruits include strawberries, pineapple, apples, blueberries, and mangos.

Eating fruit improves heart health, reduces inflammation, and boosts your immune system.

  2. So, are your abstracts for sale?
I wish you had numbered them so they would be easier to tell you which one I’m interested in. They are all amazing, and a couple of the dresses gave me a chuckle.
The long striped aqua gown, x-straps across the chest. The painting looks like beach water. Size and cost please. Thx!

    1. So much talent! They are amazing and I’m not one much for abstract art. You should really start an online store for them. Looks like Waco was a fun time from your Instagram posts.

  3. There is always time to paint and in the seasons of your life, sometimes there will be an abundance of it and sometimes not so much. Maybe switch to a medium that doesn’t require so much space and cleanup for this very busy time in your blogging career. As long as you are using your creative gifts in some form, the muse will not abandon you! Your paintings are stunning and I cannot choose a favorite. But I am looking forward to seeing more of them if you find the time.

  4. I love all your paintings !! Beautiful !! I am drawn to the blue ones, especially the blue/white gold and the blue white swirled. I love the black and pink and black/white ones. I love the blue and orange one. Abstract is hard to do. I tried to make one up because I thought it would be easy but it looked awful !! You definitely have amazing talent !!! I love art and dabble in it and I appreciate yours !! Thanks for sharing !!

  5. As a huge Project Runway fan (esp the current season with the All-ladies final), I appreciate the inspiration!!! Your paintings are fabulous!

  6. I love fashion since I was in Retail Management for over a decade and your paintings truly reflects your talent for color, abstract and fashion! I read and follow many of your blog friends, however, your blog is always my favorite because our decorating styles are very similar! Waco is on my Bucket List to stay and visit!

  7. I love clothes, it was fun to watch the Runway show, but I love love your abstracts. Thank you. for showing them. I have enjoyed your blog and found it informative.

  8. I love your idea of getting inspiration for painting from the fashions. I, too, am a painter, and sometimes it’s a struggle to decide what to paint next. Your artwork really captured the colours and feel of the fashions. Beautiful paintings they are.

  9. Loved what you did with your art and dress inspiration. Kind of the opposite of what the show asks of their participants. Art first and then design dress. Good idea Leslie.
