Around the House at My 100 Year Old Home
We are halfway through the month and I couldn’t be more excited. I cannot wait to share with you all of my projects and ideas on the blog at my 100 year old home.
It has been an incredible few weeks on the blog so far in August. The weather has been really hot and we have enjoyed being at the beach more than ever.
Our entire garage and ping pong table at our Ventura home has been turned into my “craft room”. I know my son is sad that he can’t play ping pong but my husband is thrilled that my crafting mess has been kept out of the way. (Although after 34 years of marriage you would think he would be used to it.)
August is one of those awkward months for bloggers as we shift between summer and fall and even the holidays! My editorial calendar has a tiny bit of summer left but mostly fall decor, crafts, recipes, and entertaining. I promise I won’t start sharing holiday ideas for a while. Just know that I have started my holiday crafting (behind the scenes) and it has been so much fun!
If you want to know what I have planned for August you should read this post. It’s all about planning the month of August and my amazing inspiration board for fall.
On the Blog This Week
It was a great week on the blog at My 100 Year Old Home.
Entertaining in the Backyard
Last Sunday night we hosted a dinner for our family in our backyard. The dinner was for my husband’s family and was in honor of my father in law. I wanted to make this dinner really special and I was happy to be able to share my love of Entertaining in the Backyard. There were so many fun parts of this evening I was able to share with you including the painted napkins, the custom place cards (which you can buy from my daughter-in-law here), the handmade lanterns, and more.
Tips to Setting a Table for Fall
I also shared on the blog Tips to Setting a Table for Fall. Pictured above is a table I put together for a fall dinner. I mixed and matched the plates and silverware and I actually set one place setting with a Christmas plate! I know its crazy, but it’s fun. (And the guest that was seated in that spot has a Christmas Eve birthday. So it was perfect.) There are a lot more fall tips shared in this blog post.
How to Arrange Grocery Store Flowers
I love arranging flowers and I especially like arranging flowers that I buy at the grocery store. They are plentiful and inexpensive and this arrangement was made using flowers from Trader Joe’s. Hop on over to my blog post for the full DIY on How to Create an Arrangement Like This for $38.
Inspiration for My Bedroom Makeover in a Month
I shared an update on the blog on the Makeover in a Month Challenge that I am doing with Melissa at The Inspired Room, Karianne at Thistlewood, and Marian at Miss Mustard Seed. Follow these links to see what the makeovers these very talented gals are doing!
I am remodeling our third-floor bedroom. There are only two weeks left and I am behind! (I know you are not surprised.). I partnered with Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and all of these gorgeous furniture pieces have already arrived at our home! (All of the links are in my blog post.)I have so much to do and this week I will be painting the room, making a slipcover, and start adding a wall treatment to the focus wall. I am going to be very busy!
How to Make My Wood Table Tops
I finally shared on my blog this week the DIY to Make my Wood Table Tops that you see here in this photo above. So many of you have thought this is a huge square dining room table. Well, it’s not. It is two wood table tops that I made to fit snugly on top of plastic tables. (You know the cheap kind!) You have asked for this DIY for a long time and I finally shared it this week. I do want to say that your response absolutely blew me away! Thank you.
