A Day in My Life and Sunday Morning Coffee

If you have ever wondered what a day in my life really looks like behind the blog, it probably involves more projects, ideas, and creative chaos than you might expect.

No two days ever look exactly the same, which is probably why I love what I do so much. Between creating, testing, crafting, writing, photographing, gardening, cooking, styling, and designing, it’s a pretty crazy schedule. It is a busy and creative rhythm that keeps every day interesting, and I truly love that my days are filled with making, learning, and sharing it all with you.

Thanks for joining me for Sunday Morning Coffee. This is a place to share, learn, explain, dream, and have fun.

About Me

A bright kitchen with wooden flooring, an island with wicker chairs, pendant lights, and white cabinets. A door and large windows let in natural light. Pink flowers adorn the counter.

One of the questions I get asked the most is, “What does a typical day in your life look like?” And the truth is, that is a very hard question to answer because almost every day is completely different.

Some days you’ll find me in the kitchen testing recipes.

On other days, I’m in the craft room, covered in paint, thread, or clay. And sometimes, I spend most of the day behind my computer writing, editing photos, or planning future projects.

But while every day looks different, there is still a rhythm to it.

Most mornings start quietly with coffee. I usually sit down to check emails, reader messages, and anything that needs immediate attention for the blog or social media. I also like to review what I had planned for the day because running My 100 Year Old Home means I am always juggling several projects at once. There might be a blog post to finish, photos to edit, or an idea I want to start testing.

After that, the creative part of my day usually begins.

This is the part I love most because it is where ideas come to life.

A woman in a pink sweater stands behind a table with several colorful tote bags in a well-organized fabric and craft room.

Some days I might be setting up a table for entertaining or rearranging the house’s décor for a photoshoot. Other days I am experimenting with a craft project in my craft room. I might be painting, sewing, embroidering, or trying something completely new. I love exploring different creative projects, and I never really know where an idea will lead once I get started.

Once a project is underway, I spend time photographing it. This part takes more time than most people realize. Lighting, angles, styling, and capturing the step-by-step process are all important because I want readers to clearly see how they can recreate the project themselves.

Afternoons are often when the “behind the scenes” work happens. I write blog posts, organize photos, create supply lists, and schedule content. Typically, my team and I work at least two weeks ahead, so I often plan future blog posts. So I spend time planning upcoming posts, brainstorming new ideas, and working on projects that might not appear on the blog for weeks or even months.

Of course, life outside the blog is always part of my day too. Time with Dave and our family is incredibly important to me, and there are always things happening. That always means cooking dinner (I cook four to five nights a week as I love it), spending time with our kids and grandkids, or preparing for one of the many gatherings we love to host.

Evenings are usually a chance to slow down. I often find myself thinking about new ideas, sketching out projects, or making notes for the next day. Creativity does not really turn off, and I am always excited about the next thing I want to make or share.

So while I may not have a “typical” day in the traditional sense, every day includes creativity, planning, problem-solving, and sharing ideas. And honestly, I would not want it any other way. Every day brings something new, and that is what makes this creative journey so much fun.

My Recent Fascination with Using AI to Make Life Easier

Well-organized craft workspace with shelves of supplies, a central computer monitor, laptop on desk, and various crafting materials neatly arranged around a white chair and workstation.

Lately, I have found myself increasingly fascinated with the idea of using AI to make life and work a little easier. Everywhere I look, there are posts, articles, and videos explaining how AI can simplify daily tasks, improve productivity, and streamline almost anything you do. I am sure many of these ideas are helpful, but I have to admit that I am not particularly interested in downloading another “cheat sheet” or paying for a class that promises to magically organize my day.

Instead, I have become interested in something a little different. Rather than just reading about how others use AI, I want to understand and experiment with it myself.

My 100 Year Old Home Offices

Over the past few months, I have been talking a lot with one of my sons about creating apps, and I am already well into building my first one. It has been an incredible experience. I love the process of imagining an idea, figuring out how it might work, and slowly watching it take shape. It feels a bit like learning a new craft, except instead of fabric or clay, the materials are technology and ideas.

At the same time, I have been exploring something called Claude Code to see if I can streamline some of the everyday tasks my team and I handle. This is definitely a more complicated challenge. The idea of automating or simplifying parts of our workflow is exciting, but it also requires learning an entirely new way of thinking about how things get done.

I will admit that I have no idea whether any of these ideas will actually turn into something tangible. Maybe the app will evolve into something useful. Maybe it will simply be a learning experience. The same goes for experimenting with Claude Code. It may take time before I fully understand how to use it effectively.

But what I do know is that I absolutely love learning.

What Worked This Week

A woman stands and smiles in a craft room, with shelves of fabrics, sewing supplies, and a sewing machine visible behind her.

Ever since I redesigned my craft room in early January, something interesting has happened.

My blog posts have become a lot more crafty. Between clay projects, embroidery, painting, and experimenting with new ideas, it seems like I have been sharing craft after craft lately.

I have to admit that I started to worry that I might be overdoing it.

Crafting has always been one of my favorite things to do, so it feels very natural for me to share these projects. But My 100 Year Old Home has always been about more than just crafts. It is also about decorating, gardening, entertaining, and cooking. I never want anyone to think I have forgotten those parts of my life, because I truly love doing all of it.

A row of raised garden beds with various green leafy vegetables growing, alongside wooden and metal trellises, set on a sunny paved pathway with a white fence in the background.

So this week I made a conscious effort to refocus a bit. You probably noticed more posts about home decor, gardening, and recipes mixed in again. That balance feels much more like the rhythm I want to maintain here on the blog.

The funny thing is that when my craft room was finished, I suddenly had this amazing space that inspired me to start creating again. When creativity hits, it is hard not to follow it. I think that is why the crafts have taken center stage lately.

What Do You Want?

That said, I want to hear from you.

Do you enjoy the craft projects? Do you prefer decorating ideas, recipes, or gardening content? One of the things I value most about this community is hearing what you love and what inspires you.

A rectangular ceramic tray with a pink and red floral pattern lies on a light wooden surface, surrounded by pink flower sprigs.

And while I am working on bringing more balance back to the blog, I should probably make one thing clear. Crafts have always been my favorite creative outlet. So I promise there will definitely be more of them coming.

Just not every single day. Hehe.

This week's to do list.
  • Finish Easter crafts (I have three to complete!)
  • Get healthy – I came home sick from Chicago!
