My Favorite Table Centerpiece Ideas for Outside Dining

This favorite table centerpiece is inexpensive and can be used over and over (as long as you remember to water it).

Outside dining happens a lot at our home and I love using wooden planter boxes as centerpieces. In fact, I love using planted flowers in what I call my favorite farmhouse table centerpiece too.

Can you see why this wooden planter box is one of my favorite table centerpieces? I actually bought three of these wooden planter boxes and used two on the outside dining table and one on the outside coffee table. Since I used plants, these flowers should last a very long time and I can use these over and over again.

Setting my Favorite Table Centerpiece for Dining Outdoors

We live in Southern California so we dine outdoors all of the time. Last summer I would estimate that we ate out here at least six nights a week! It’s such a comfortable spot and the perfect place to linger for hours.

I love setting a fun table but I often have to use faux flowers because I can’t keep up with fresh flowers. Using planted flowers is such a great idea because they will last all summer long (with a bit of water added every few days).

If you like the hanging shelves in the background, I found some similar Wood and Rope Shelves. I love those shelves so much and I bought them to hang in a bathroom window. They ended up on our porch and have been there for twenty years!

I shopped my butler’s pantry and found a lot of fun items to set this table. Some of my favorite items include my Lace Edged Linen Dinner Napkins, Spode Blue Italian Dinner Plates, Polka Dot Glassware, and Wine Glasses.

This is one of my favorite table centerpieces because I love the mix of indoor and outdoor. I chose to mix china dinner plates and crystal glassware on a wooden outdoor table with rustic wood planter centerpieces together with chippy wood candle holders.

These small Mini Cake Stands are great with cupcakes but they also hold place cards too.

I love this small Wooden Planter Box. It is very inexpensive and they really look great. And the best part? They are low so you don’t have to worry about people not being able to see across the table.

They also come with a plastic liner and are really easy to plant.

The plants I used are fresh lavender, ivy, and petunias. It took about five minutes to plant each planter, from start to finish. Some of the plants needed to be separated because the planters are narrow. But that worked well because that meant I needed fewer plants.

You can also replace the colored flowers at any time, pop in some pink for the purple, and plant the purple flowers somewhere in your yard. Leave all the greens in each planter!

I also love that these planters are whitewashed. It gives them an antique look and they match any table setting style.

All of the items on the table are things that I already owned with two exceptions. For this post, I bought the Wooden Planter Box and the Rose Gold Lantern. This rose gold lantern is so wonderful. It has glass sides and can be used on a porch or table or even hung with a hook. It also works indoors or out!

Lastly, I would like to suggest that you have fun when you set your tables. Add items to your tables that are different. In the past, I have used books, old planters, record albums, photos, and so many other fun items to set my tables. Setting tables fun tables is fun for your guests too!
