Simple Summer Decor

|

It’s time to share some simple summer decor! I am so excited to be part of this amazing blog hop put together by Krista from The Happy Housie. This week there will be forty bloggers participating in this hop! If you found my blog from my friend Sheila at Maison de Cinq, then welcome!

For those of us living in Southern California, it has barely felt like summer. First, we had an entire month of “May Grey” and then a week of “June Gloom”. Today was actually our first day of warm weather and I am thrilled. It’s about time!

Today I am sharing our living room. It’s probably the least used room in our home which is the only reason why the couches are always white. About three years ago I had slipcovers made which means, yes, there are ugly gold couches underneath the white cotton slipcovers.

My favorite piece of furniture in the living room is this amazing sideboard. I think it was a general store counter at one time. I bought it for a steal and store all of my placemats and chargers inside. (I have a ton of them!)

The first thing I did to get this room ready for summer was to remove all of the drapes. The drapes were tan and offwhite silk striped heavy drapes. I hung them about fifteen years ago and they worked well for over a decade. But my tastes have changed and they looked too heavy, too formal and outdated. Plus they were partly shredded from the sun. If you want to see what this room looked like with drapes you can see them here.

My color scheme for the room was pink and orange. I love these colors and with a mostly white room, it’s not hard to add a bit of color. I made this felt flowered pillow and I think it makes a great focal point in my living room. The pillow wasn’t hard to make as I used my Cricut Maker machine to cut out all of the felt petals. I just love how it came out.

The painting above the fireplace was painted by a friend of ours, Ray Turner, and I love it. I made the paper flowers in the battery jar, which include an assortment of crepe paper peonies, poppies, and tulips.

Our living room is not fancy. Rather, it’s comfortable and relaxing. But I love it. The neutral palette is so easy to work with and the pops of orange and pink are just perfect for summer.

Yes still at it in a over 55 senior community – a life long obsession. PS most serious decorators have slipcovers over something very unpretty! My wing chair is slipcovered in white Maltesea ? Spelling. Forgive spelling Whst it looks like underbeath is beyond words….I still have rubber gloves on from my garage project. Super hot better get rolling . Thankyou for sharing! Lovely home.
