Classic Antiques or Unique Vintage? – Sunday Morning Coffee
Classic antiques or unique vintage? I am more of a collector of vintage items like vintage Christmas decor, vintage mirrors, vintage glassware, vintage chandeliers, and vintage quilts.
Thanks for joining me for Sunday morning coffee. Today I am going to share my love for classic antiques versus unique vintage finds.
Volume 37
A Little Bit About Me
I really love old stuff. The more chippy, the better, and if I find an old item that I can use for a reason other than what it was originally intended for then I am really happy.
So what’s the difference between antiques and vintage? The proper definition of antique and vintage is basically that they are old, so I had to dig a little further. It turns out that antiques are technically over 100 years old so yes, our house is officially an antique. Items less than 100 years old are commonly known as vintage.
And I love everything vintage.
There is no doubt in my mind that I love unique vintage finds. I love to collect things from the ’20s and ’30s and most things I love are younger than 100 years old.
So I am a unique vintage girl all the way. Not an antique (thank heavens!).
My Seven Favorite Unique Vintage Items to Collect
This list could have been at least twenty items because as most of you know, I love everything vintage. But I decided to narrow it down to my absolute favorite unique vintage items.
I settled with vintage Christmas decorations, vintage dressers, vintage mirrors, vintage coffee tables, vintage glassware, vintage chandeliers, and vintage quilts.
Vintage Chandeliers
I went a bit overboard collecting vintage chandeliers as I hug five of them in our carriage house. I had them all rewired and I cleaned and repaired all of them. Most of them had lots of missing crystals and I actually enjoyed finding the replacement parts. I have shared a lot of advice about what kinds of vintage chandeliers you should buy.

Vintage Christmas Decorations
I have been collecting vintage ornaments for a very long time. I have them in every color but my favorites are shades of pinkish blush and green.
I use the ornaments all of the time and year-round and I bring out my pink ones for Valentine’s Day and my red and blue ones for the 4th of July. I buy them mostly at the Flea Market but my friend Judy at Vintage Junktion LA has a lot of ornaments right now.

Vintage Dressers
I love vintage cabinets and dressers and I almost always either sand them down leave as is or paint them with milk paint. I found this cabinet below at Through the Porthole. Love it so much!
Vintage Dressers and Cabinets
There is no doubt that redoing the Carriage House was my favorite project of the summer. It looks so incredible and I love the space so much. I did a lot of projects with milk paint too!
Vintage Mirrors
I love Trumeau mirrors! They are so beautiful and almost always vintage. I painted this mirror because the frame used to be very dark.

Vintage Glassware
Cranberry glass is my favorite and I am so happy I collected these when I was much younger. I have been collecting cranberry glass for a long time and it is so beautiful on any table!

Being a vintage gal myself, I love your vintage and antique finds! Thanks for sharing, I just wish I had more opportunity on our area to find some of those unique pieces I love.
Just found your blog, and absolutely LOVE both Vintage and Antiques…..many of my things are definitely antique, as my Grandma was born in 1893, and I inherited her home and all her things…The big plus of being an only child, of an only child, making me an only grandchild…didn’t realize how special that even was…they have all passed on, but I’ve been left with many treasures for sure…we had 11,000 pounds of furniture and household items shipped from Oregon to Virginia…and I’ve just started the process of looking and sorting…What I wanted to ask, is do you sell any of your items??? Thanks, jolene
Oh wow that is incredible! You are so lucky to be surrounded by so many treasures! I do not sell my times, thank you Jolene!
Ok – you had me at chandeliers! Such beautiful work you do – thanks for another week of fabulous inspiration!!
