Christmas Dishes and Table Decor Ideas

Welcome to day four of Twelve Days To Get Ready For Christmas. Today I am sharing some fun Christmas dishes and table decor ideas.

This is one of my favorite posts! As you know, there are a lot of occasions to set a pretty table over the holidays. I love to use lots of different dishes for Christmas, and I love to mix and match my china on my tables. Today I thought it would be fun to share a Christmas table using traditional and non-traditional items.

Planning Your Table for Christmas

I am so excited to share one of my holiday tables this year with you! This is the first of many for the season I will be sharing before I start incorporating my pomegranate theme. You will see a lot of this color scheme this season. Fortunately, the color scheme goes well with my cranberry glasses!

I know this table has a lot of shades of red and I love it! It’s a good thing that I already own a lot of burgundy Christmas-colored dishware and I cannot wait to share it all throughout the holiday season.

I also love to add a lot of texture to my tables too. On this table, I started with the woven placemat, added a red charger, and stacked more plates on top. I used a plaid pillow cover to center my flower arrangement. It’s always fun to add non-tableware items to the table.

My biggest piece of advice is don’t just look for tabletop decor when you set your holiday table. Add all kinds of decor to your table!

Don’t be afraid to mix shades of red and green (or any color!).

Christmas Dishes

I went through the Butler’s Pantry and pulled out my Christmas dishes. These plates range from melamine and tin to Spode Christmas dishes. I have collected these for years and I love mixing and matching them. Some of these were one-offs (such as the white plates with the bows on the top right) which means they are no longer made. But some of them are classics!

Christmas Glassware

When I started collecting cranberry glasses thirty years ago I never imagined I would use them all year round. If you have followed me for a while then you know that I love cranberry glass. I still find pieces at flea markets and online and I love it when you all share with me stories about how you have started collecting them too!

This is where I buy most of my vintage cranberry glasses. In fact, every time I post this link I end up buying something first to add to my collection too! My last two purchases were cranberry bowls and a complete punch bowl set. I just found some cranberry glass bowls and I cannot wait for them to arrive!

These red Italian glasses from Amazon are simply amazing. I discovered them last month and they not only look like cranberry glass but the gold detail is just perfect.

I love this photo of some of the glasses I hope to use this holiday season. This is part of my cranberry glass collection that I store in our Butler’s Pantry. I will use all of these for Christmas including the gold-accented glasses stored on the bottom shelf. This is only a sampling of the glasses I have. Sadly, they wouldn’t all fit on the shelves for this photo!

Christmas Florals and More

During the holiday season, I use both fresh and faux florals. Most of the arrangements throughout our home are faux and the floral table centerpieces are fresh. I have a huge collection of holiday faux florals and now is the time to stock up. They are relatively inexpensive and easy to find.

The table below is entirely different as I used trees for my centerpiece and no flowers. I made the wood trough and I loved hanging tiny lights on it.

Christmas Table Decor

I often use a lot of unexpected items that I refer to as “table decor”. These aren’t vases or glassware, they are crocks, trees, unexpected items hanging from the ceiling, and more. I put vintage glass ornaments in apothecary jars. If there is only one thing you buy this holiday season it should be a set of apothecary jars. I love them. You can also see wrapped gifts and some hand-painted coasters (made by yours truly).

Each of these tables was created with so much love! I always add as many things as I can to every table I set. The table in the middle below has a wood trough that I made! I even made placemats (below on the right) featuring some of our family’s favorite lines from Christmas carols.
