A Quick and Easy Primary Bedroom Makeover
A primary bedroom makeover can seem daunting, especially if it’s the last room in the house you’ve finally renovated.
Interestingly, it should probably be the first, given its importance as your sanctuary. However, if you’re like me and are finally ready to give your primary bedroom the makeover it deserves, I’m here to share how I transformed mine quickly and efficiently.

How to Complete a Primary Bedroom Makeover Quickly and Easily

The key changes in our primary bedroom makeover involved updating the bed, nightstands, and lamps, which were sourced from a Serena and Lily outlet.
Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to redo your primary bedroom, emphasizing why outlets like Serena and Lily can be a treasure trove for such projects.

The Importance of the Primary Bedroom

The primary bedroom isn’t just another room in your house; it’s your retreat. It’s where you start and end your day, significantly influencing your mood and overall well-being. Therefore, it’s crucial to create a space that feels both inviting and relaxing.
Despite this, the primary bedroom often falls last on the list of home remodeling projects. One reason might be the misconception that it’s less visible to guests, but remember, this space is for you. Prioritizing it can enhance your daily life in more ways than you imagine.
In case you are curious about what our primary bedroom used to look like, here are the stages of its evolution over the years. Don’t even ask what I was thinking before 2000. Yikes!

Starting with the Basics: Bed, Nightstands, and Lamps

When I decided it was time to refresh our primary bedroom, I focused on three key elements that would have the most significant impact: the bed, nightstands, and lamps. Changing these pieces can completely alter the look and feel of the room without the need for a complete renovation.
Here’s why each element is vital:
- Bed: It’s the centerpiece of the bedroom. Opting for a new bed frame or headboard can redefine the room’s aesthetic and comfort.
- Nightstands are not just practical; they’re an extension of the bed’s functionality and style. They hold our essentials, from books to glasses, and contribute to the room’s symmetry and balance.
- Lamps: Lighting plays a pivotal role in setting the room’s mood. Swapping out old lamps for new ones can introduce a fresh vibe, affecting the illumination and the room’s character.
The nightstands and lamps were bought at the Serena and Lily outlet!
We have a great mattress, but it was time for a new bed and frame. We bought the Zuma White Textured Linen Hanson Upholstered Wingback Bed, and we love it!
The Serena and Lily Outlet Experience

Shopping at outlets for your remodeling needs can be incredibly rewarding. Outlets like Serena and Lily offer high-quality, stylish furniture and home accessories at a fraction of the cost.
However, finding the right pieces requires patience and frequent visits. Inventory changes often, and the hunt for the perfect nightstands and lamps can feel like a treasure quest. Yet, when you find those gems, the savings and unique finds can be well worth the effort.
Two of my sons live in Marin County in Northern California, and whenever I visited them, I used to sneak a quick trip to the Serena and Lily outlet in Vacaville. But sadly, it closed last year. There is still one in Berkeley!
At the Serena and Lily outlet, I found the Driftway Wide Nightstands and the Westerly Bone Inlay Table Lamps at an incredible price.

Why Outlets Are a Smart Choice:
- Cost-Effective: Premium products can be obtained at significantly lower prices. This is particularly appealing for items like nightstands and lamps, where style and quality matter.
- Unique Finds: Outlets often stock items not available in standard stores, allowing for more distinctive styling of your space.
- Sustainability: Purchasing from outlets can be a form of recycling, giving a second life to items that might otherwise go unsold.

The Patience Game:
While the benefits are clear, shopping at outlets has challenges. The inconsistency in inventory means you might not find what you’re looking for on your first visit. It’s a game of patience and persistence, but the reward of scoring high-quality, stylish pieces at a bargain is unmatched.
Redoing the Primary Bedroom: Quick and Easy Tips

Here’s how you can approach redoing your primary bedroom without the need for a lengthy or expensive overhaul:
- Define Your Style: Start with a clear vision of how you want your bedroom to look and feel. Whether it’s coastal chic, modern minimalism, or rustic charm, your chosen style will guide all your decisions.
- Focus on Key Pieces: As demonstrated, updating significant elements like the bed, nightstands, and lamps can dramatically transform the space. Choose these pieces carefully to ensure they make the desired impact.
- Color Scheme: A fresh coat of paint or new bedding in a cohesive color palette can refresh the room without much effort. Opt for calming colors that promote relaxation.
- Accessorize Thoughtfully: Incorporate a few new accessories, such as throw pillows, a rug, or wall art, to complement the new pieces and tie the room together.
- Organize and Declutter: Sometimes, the most effective makeover is simply organizing and decluttering your space. A tidy room feels more inviting and serene.

Why the Primary Bedroom Should Have Been First

Reflecting on the process, I realize that the renovation of the primary bedroom should have been prioritized in our home. As your home’s heart, this space significantly affects your daily life, influencing your rest, mood, and overall well-being. Redoing the primary bedroom first sets a positive tone for the rest of your home renovations, ensuring your comfort!
I have no idea why we waited until all of the other bedrooms were done to start ours, especially considering that Dave and I live in our home by ourselves most of the time. (But we love it when our boys are here!)

Your bedroom is so pretty and relaxing. What color are the walls? You also mentioned that you have a great mattress, what mattress do you have?
I also was hoping to see what paint and color and what mattress you have.
You’re room is so pretty. I’d love to redo ours but my husband is resisting. He says we just did it. It was 20 years ago. Sigh.
Thanks so very much! Oh boy- sounds like a classic husband response! Hopefully you can convince him 😁
Oops–your, not you’re.
Hi Leslie,
Can you please tell us about the quilt on your bed?
Also the paint color on the walls?
