How to Style A Farmhouse Christmas
I am so excited to share how to style a farmhouse Christmas. This was such a fun project for the holidays.
I can’t tell you how excited I have been to decorate my home in a Farmhouse Christmas style for the holidays. This is the first year I am decorating our entire home for Christmas and I have been thinking about it for months. The style of our home is farmhouse and/or flea market style. I love chippy white vintage items and want to continue this style for the holiday.
Farmhouse Christmas Ideas
Although I knew I needed to purchase a lot of holiday decor items, I have been dreaming up craft ideas to give our home a personalized Christmas feel. I love to create crafts and knew exactly where I needed to go to find all my holiday decorating and crafting needs. There are so many great craft stores nearby for me to get inspired to create. One trip to our local craft store and my crafting and decorating dreams became a reality.

For this project I was able to decorate two rooms in our home; our dining room and our family room. I decided right away that I wanted to create ornaments that represented our family and the year 2017. I made a list of words that I thought would mean a lot to our family and thought it would be fun to try something new … clay ornaments! You can find a complete tutorial on how to make them here.
I had so much fun making the ornaments. On my shopping trip to the craft store, I found air hardening modeling clay which dries on its own in two days! I bought one package which made 50 ornaments. All you need to do is roll out the clay, cut a shape with a cookie cutter, add the hole with a wooden skewer, and stamp a word with small rubber stamps.

I wanted to create a winter wonderland farmhouse theme in our dining room so that’s where I hung the ornaments. I cannot tell you how much fun I had shopping for decor and craft items. There were so many items that fit my theme and I had a really hard time deciding! I went through the aisles for about an hour until I selected these two wooden trees and supplies to make the pompom ball trees. (I bought the brown paper mache trees and five strands of the pompom balls to make each tree. Each one costs less than $10.00!) And this wreath is simply amazing.
I wanted to keep my table casually elegant and I found a roll of paper printed with musical notes to use as a runner. I then headed over to the faux floral section (which I have memorized by heart) and grabbed some faux eucalyptus, and lambs ear. I wanted glass vases so I went to the mason jar aisle and bought the biggest jars they had. The last thing I found for the centerpieces were small white Christmas bulbs. I figured I could use them anywhere in the room if I didn’t need them in the vases!
For the back of each chair, I found eight cable knit stockings. I tied them with off-white ribbon. Don’t you think it might be fun to fill these with small treats on Christmas Eve?
I couldn’t decide what to do for place cards, so I used the leftover clay (that I had stored in a plastic bag) and made some smaller ornaments with the names of our family members.
I decided to put a tree in our dining room and this was a first! I thought I would decorate it with my vintage ornaments but all it needed were the flocked poinsettias, eucalyptus, and white pearl berries which were all from the craft store.
All in all, I am so happy with our dining room!

In our family room, I chose a farmhouse theme of red, white, and burlap. Considering our family room is usually just white and gray, the red made such a wonderful difference!
My table decor was all purchased, on sale.
I found the red plates first then added the burlap charges. Can you believe the plates are actually plastic? I love that!
Then I found burlap placemats and coasters. I cut red names on my Cricut machine and ironed them on the burlap coasters to use as place cards. I have to mention that I could not believe how inexpensive the chargers, placemats, and coasters were! Aren’t they adorable?
I also found burlap and cotton ornaments and centerpieces. By adding a few red berry greens, I was able to tie the red in with the white and burlap. Did you happen to notice our jelly jar glasses? We use them every day as our drinking glasses. Even my husband loves them!
I have some old white windows hanging on our wall. I added some red frosted berries in the garlands to tie them into our new seasonal decor!
I added the same red berries in the vase on the coffee table and then added a cotton garland inside the wooden box.
The last item I found on my shopping trip was the puzzle, which is now on our coffee table. I know my kids will love the Christmas themed puzzle. It’s one of our favorite pastimes!
If I could offer any advice when it comes to decorating for the holidays, I think it helps if you decide on a theme first. I knew our home would overall have a Farmhouse Christmas theme but it wasn’t until I started shopping that I made my final decisions. And yes, when I went to check out, there was an entire layer of decor at the bottom of my cart that I no longer needed! I changed my mind a few times, and that’s ok! It’s important to find exactly what you need that works best for you and your family.
Our hundred year home has been in our family for almost fifty years and it represents a wonderful gathering place for our family and friends. I love it when our boys are home for the holidays. I am so thankful to have been able to choose and create Christmas decor this year that we will use in our home for many years to come.
Now it’s your turn to head to the craft store to create your perfect Farmhouse Christmas Decor.

Everything looks great Leslie! I don’t have a farmhouse style home but I think there are so many ideas here that I could use in my more contemporary style decor. Leslie, now I know why I haven’t seen you for two weeks. The decorations are beautiful, your styling artistic…celebrating and your home warm and welcoming. Several years ago, I was visiting my folks in Iowa and that always included a trip to the Hobby Lobby in Des Moines. I filled 6 carts with Christmas with no thought how I would get this back to Ca. They held each full cart as I wheeled off with one to fill. The HL manager came to my rescue with large shipping boxes, packing paper, tape and even helped pack 8 boxes. He and the associates were like elves helping me. 3 trips to the Fedex store and they were on their way….Love Hobby Lobby
That is such a wonderful story! I absolutely love it. This is my first year decorating our entire home for Christmas so I knew it was going to be a big project. Thanks to Hobby Lobby it was easy and fun. As you pointed out, they have everything!
