Valentine’s Day Dinner Ideas
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. The most special way for us to celebrate is to enjoy a special Valentine’s Day dinner at home.
Valentine’s Day dinner has always been different in our home. Our oldest son Andrew was born on Valentine’s Day so for his first eighteen years, we celebrated his birthday (which of course took precedence!). When he went off to college we weren’t used to going out to dinner nor did we like the hassle and crowds. So we usually have dinner at home. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
When I was invited to share a Valentine tablescape or craft idea with some very talented bloggers I immediately said yes. Creating a tablescape for Valentine’s Day dinner is an easy task because I have done it for so many years. Just be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post for the photos and links of my friend’s posts!
We have invited three couples over to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year and I had so much fun creating the table. The only items I purchased were the flowers and I bought those at Trader Joe’s for about $25. Everything else is from my years of shopping at vintage flea markets and stored (or stuffed as my husband would say) in our dining room cabinets and butler’s pantry.
My most recent purchase was this vintage homespun french linen fabric. I bought it at the Ventura Flea Market earlier this year and have been waiting for the right occasion to use it. (According to my friend Debra Hall, it’s linen that is homespun by hand in France and used for sheets or linens.) This linen might even be the catalyst for my entire dinner party! (Can’t you just see my guests reaction if they found out I invited them over for a fancy dinner just so I could use one of my flea market finds. Although I am sure it isn’t the first time I have done this.)
There is no doubt that what makes this table are the Cranberry glass goblets I have been collecting for years. I don’t have a lot of them but I do love them and you can learn more about my collection here. The blog post includes a lot of information about cranberry glass, how it is made and where you can find it.
Isn’t it gorgeous?
I used to collect vintage depression glass plates (about thirty years ago) so I pulled out all of my pink plates and added them on top of my vintage Wedgewood Edme plates. I bought an entire set (for twenty) of Wedgewood Edme china at an estate sale many years ago for $50. That was definitely one of my better purchases.
I think most of you know that I mix and match my silver and silverplate and that we use it every day. I wrote a blog post about this which caused quite a stir but I love my silver so much that we use it every day! I have four different patterns in my collection.
As I mentioned, the flowers are “grocery store flowers” from Trader Joes. I think this is my best arrangement ever from TJ’s!
Finally, the copper candlesticks are from Amazon. They have been out of stock for a long time but they just came back in stock. I love them because they are very sturdy, have a heavy base, and are reasonably priced. They come in a set of three.
I have one more task and that is to plan the menu for our Valentine’s Day dinner. If you have any ideas, let me know.
Until then, here are some very inspirational Valentine’s Day themed blog posts. Enjoy!

I have found a new live! The cranberry color is so beautiful. My husband and I love estate sales too. I’ll be looking now for cranberry glass. Live this post! So much inspiration.
Live should be love. Auto correct gets me all the time.
Oh this is beautiful Leslie! 💗 And your flowers are stunning! I bet your friends are so happy to christen your thrift shop finds! 🙂 Thanks for another round of wonderful inspiration!
GORGEOUS! I LOVE colored glass – but those cranberry rimmed plates are beautiful as are your goblets. I actually JUST bought some short footed dessert dishes with the same “thumbprint” cranberry rims – my grandmother had some similar when I was growing up and I couldn’t pass them up. I always love your table settings!
Leslie, I love the soft pink salad plates. Do you remember where you found those? I adore them.
