Why You Should Pick a Name for Your Home and Fun Ideas You’ll Love
Have you ever thought about giving your home a name? Picking a name for your home gives it personality, a sense of history, and a little magic.
You can name your home, whether it is a cozy beach cottage, a sprawling farmhouse, or a city loft. Every house should have a name! But why stop at just a name? Imagine having a beautifully designed logo representing your home’s style and personality—one you can use on custom-printed items, from cocktail napkins to welcome mats.

Why You Should Pick a Name for Your Home?

I am so excited to share today why naming your home is a fun and meaningful tradition, how to create a custom logo using AI, and how to incorporate it into your home.
Naming homes has been a long-standing tradition. Consider classic estates like Tara in Gone With the Wind or Pemberley in Pride and Prejudice. Even cozy cabins and vacation homes often have names, like “Driftwood Cottage” or “Hummingbird Haven.” Giving your home a name instantly adds charm and makes it feel like a unique retreat.
Technically, our South Pasadena home is “My 100 Year Old Home,” and you all know it as that. But since we lived here almost twenty years before I created my name and brand, we don’t refer to it as such. We have named our other homes. Our Waco home is “My 100 Year Old Waco Home,” and our beach house is “The Beach House.”
I know what you are thinking. Not too clever with the names. Especially our beach house. Oops.
More Reasons to Name Your Home

1. It creates a Sense of Place – A name makes your home feel more like a destination, not just a structure.
2. It Adds Personality – Whether whimsical, elegant, or cozy, your home’s name reflects its character.
3. It Becomes a Conversation Starter – When guests visit, they’ll love hearing the story behind the name.
4. It Can Be a Family Tradition – The name of your home can be passed down, making it even more meaningful.
5. It’s Just Plain Fun! – Let’s be honest—who wouldn’t love pulling up to “The Nest” or “Magnolia House” instead of just “123 Main Street”?
How to Pick a Name for Your Home

Choosing a name for your home is a personal decision, but here are some tips to help you find the perfect one:
1. Consider Your Home’s History
Does your home have a unique past? Was it built in a specific era? Maybe it was once a barn, a carriage house, or a former schoolhouse. You can honor that history with a name like “The Old Mill” or “Schoolhouse Retreat.”
2. Look at Your Surroundings
Take inspiration from nature! If your home is nestled among pine trees, “Whispering Pines” could be perfect. A beach house? Try “Salt & Sand” or “Seabreeze Cottage.”
3. Think About How Your Home Feels
Is your home cozy and warm or sleek and modern? Names like “Hearth & Haven” or “The Modern Nest” can capture the vibe.
4. Incorporate Family Names or Memories
Maybe your grandmother’s name was Rose, and you love the idea of “Rosewood House.” Or perhaps your family always gathers for Sunday brunch, inspiring “Brunchwood Manor.”
5. Have Fun With Wordplay
Mix and match words to create something unique. “Fox Hollow” sounds charming, while “Serenity Cove” gives off peaceful vibes.
Once you have a name, it’s time to design a logo!
How to Create a Custom Home Logo Using AI

Designing a logo sounds like something only businesses do, but why not make your home feel just as special? A logo adds a beautiful touch to everything from stationery to home decor.
I had an artist design this logo for our Waco home five years ago, before AI was even an option.
Easy Ways to Get a Logo Designed with AI
1. Use an AI Logo Generator – Websites like Canva, Looka, or Adobe Express offer AI-powered logo tools where you can input your home’s name and preferred style.
2. Describe Your Vision to AI—AI design assistants can create a logo that matches your home’s aesthetic. For example, if your home is a beach retreat, you might want something with soft waves and elegant typography.
3. Refine and Customize – Once AI generates options, tweak the fonts, colors, and icons to make it feel truly yours.
4. Save in Different Formats – You’ll want versions for printing, embroidery, and digital use (like PNGs with transparent backgrounds).
Now that you have a logo, it’s time for the fun part—printing custom items!
Items You Can Personalize with Your Home’s Logo
My 100 Year Old Waco Home

Once you have your home’s name and logo, add it to everyday items for a custom touch. I made many items for our Waco home, and everyone who stays there comments on them.

I found an old General Store ledger to hold our comment cards. Each card is printed and perfect for comments.
I may sometimes use affiliate links on this blog, which means a small commission is earned if you purchase via the link. The price will be the same whether you use the affiliate link or go directly to the vendor’s website using a non-affiliate link.
The Beach House

I had robes embroidered for family members, which are stored in every closet. I made the cutting boards on my xTool laser cutter.
