Why I Love January and Sunday Morning Coffee

|

I don’t think too many would list January as one of their favorite months. But I love January! Can you guess why?

Also, I have another new project I have started and I am so excited. I am starting this week and should have it completed within a few weeks. And then we will enjoy it all year. Any guesses? Thanks for joining me for Sunday Morning Coffee. This is a place to share, learn, explain, dream, and have fun.

January, like any month, can have its challenges. But add in the cold weather, post-holiday blues, short days and less sunlight, and New Year’s resolutions pressure and it can be tough.

Not for me!

I love January!

January is the month for new beginnings. It symbolizes the start of a new year, offering a sense of a fresh start and new possibilities. To me, this is invigorating and motivating.

After the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, January is a quieter, more peaceful time, which I appreciate. The holidays are crazy in our home and a quiet month is what I need every year to recharge.

January is also a great time for indoor activities. The cold weather provides a great opportunity to enjoy indoor activities like reading, cooking, working out, and engaging in hobbies which to me is crafting! And since I live in Southern California we are lucky enough to have a lot warmer days so we still enjoy the outdoors!

January is also when I start making subtle decor changes in our home. I already redid the guest bedroom, and I took down the vintage windows in our family room. I already know what I am going to do instead of these windows and hope to have that finished in the next week or so.

But my favorite thing that I love about January is reflection and planning. The calmness of January is often conducive to looking back at the past year and planning for the year ahead. I love analyzing my business and making changes. I love planning my goals and projects for the year.

January is such a great month!

My Latest Project

Spring Garden

I am starting a huge garden project!

Years ago I built four raised garden beds in our backyard and I have loved growing vegetables and flowers.

But in the last couple of years my yield hasn’t been great and I know /i have needed to do something!

When my friends at Gardenary reached out and asked me to check out their Kitchen Garden Academy I knew I had finally found my garden inspiration.

Raised Tomato and Vegetable Beds

Why do I love Gardenary so much? Nicole teaches that your garden beds should be full, with no soil showing (which means lots of plants!), and has a video course that shows exactly how to create a kitchen garden to grow almost all year long!

I have been taking the class and I am so inspired to replenish my soil and have the garden I have always wanted.

One thing you should know is that regardless of where you live, now is the time to start planning your kitchen garden.

Check out her book, Kitchen Garden Revival. And the Gardenary website.

My Biggest Challenge This Week

I mentioned last week that I had to have surgery on my finger for a non-cancerous cyst. The surgery went fine but getting used to this bandage has been a challenge.

The worst part was the pain meds were awful. I decided to take a few on the day after my surgery because my finger hurt! But I had a terrible reaction to the pain meds and was very sick.

So Advil it is and my typing is a bit difficult. Only eight more days until this silly thing (and the stitches) come off my finger!

This week's to do list.
  • Spend the weekend with family and Graham.
  • Shop at the Serena & Lily outlet!
  • Order the equipment for the weight room.
  • Start my kitchen garden project.

  1. Leslie, I totally understand the pain meds reaction. Two days before Christmas I had a wisdom tooth removed and had dry socket. Wound up in the emergency room Christmas morning. The reaction to the pain meds was terrifying and horrific. Two weeks of immense suffering. I hope your finger heals quickly!
Love your blog and this 76 year old gathers some great ideas (and shops your “finds”). Never too old to learn!

    1. Ugh that sounds so rough Barb! Thanks so much, I am feeling much better. That’s awesome, thanks for being here ☺️

  2. Leslie – I am scheduled for the exact same surgery – even same finger! 2 years ago my daughter had it as well. I am dreading being unable to do much for several days but will welcome the relief from throbbing pain of the cyst. I appreciate your advice about the pain meds- I will attempt to use Tylenol instead.
