The Christmas Holiday Panic
Remember when I was in Taipei in August and I panicked when I saw all of the pumpkin décor on Instagram? All of the beautiful homes on IG had at least ten pumpkins in every room. Sadly, at that time, my fall décor consisted of a ten-year-old plastic jack-o-lantern and one really big spider. So I frantically ordered a gazillion pumpkins online.
Well, it is happening again.
I love to decorate for Christmas and I always thought our house looked pretty nice for the holidays. But then I booked a magazine photo shoot in early December. And I started thinking about my box of Christmas decorations. That’s “my box”, as in “one box”.
We have always had one tree with lots of wonderful and memorable ornaments. Plus the needlepoint stockings that took me years to make. And lots of fresh wreaths all over the house, which made everything smell nice. But now I know we have no décor. Like none.
The other night, when I couldn’t sleep, I started making lists of each room in our home that I thought might be included in the magazine shoot. Then I grabbed my newly purchased stack of holiday magazines to check out how much décor a home needs for a magazine shoot. Then I freaked out.
Last year I had one Christmas tree. This year I think I need eight. Yep, eight Christmas trees. Oh, my goodness. I have a serious HDSP. That is, I have a “holiday decor shortage problem”. It’s serious.
Fortunately, common sense has set in. And here is what I am going to do. Because I love crafts, I am going to try to make as many of the items as I can. The rest I am going to buy at flea markets.
So my “Twenty Thursdays ‘Till Christmas” weekly DIY blog posts have just become Monday through Thursday posts. Ok, maybe that’s an exaggeration. But if you want to see some great DIY Christmas décor ideas then you should probably follow my blog. You can do that right here.
While I am typing this I am trying to figure out what my next decor need will be. Is it winter? Valentines Day? Spring?
