Transforming your space to welcome fall doesn’t require a complete overhaul – a few strategic decor changes can make all the difference.

Set the Color Palette

Collage for Fall Decor

Before you dive into decorating, it’s essential to establish a color palette that reflects the rich and earthy tones of the season.

Every season I create a color palette and I usually use an inspirational photo. My color palette is above and the inspiration photo is from the Pottery Barn fall catalog. I love these colors!

If you would like to create your own color palette like this you can find out how to do it free here.

While traditional fall colors like burnt orange and deep red are always a hit, consider personalizing your palette with colors that resonate with you. Jewel tones like emerald green, sapphire blue, and amethyst purple can add a sophisticated twist to your fall decor. Whatever you choose, be sure to choose colors you love.

Shop Your Own Home to Welcome Fall

I used a basket I bought in France and an old pumpkin.

One of the best ways to welcome fall to your living room for fall is by shopping your own home. Take a stroll through different rooms and storage spaces to uncover items that can be repurposed or rearranged.

My favorite items to start decorating my home are pillow covers and faux flowers.

Pillow Covers

Start by swapping out your existing pillow covers with ones that feature your chosen fall color palette. Look for cozy materials like faux fur, knit, or velvet to instantly introduce warmth. Mix and match textures and patterns for added depth. Don’t hesitate to layer pillows of various sizes to create a welcoming atmosphere.

Faux Flowers and Greenery

Here are the new faux flowers I bought this year on Amazon.

While fresh flowers are a lovely touch, faux flowers, and greenery are perfect for fall since they maintain their vibrancy throughout the season.

I shopped on Amazon and found all of the faux flowers that fit my new color palette. Aren’t they amazing? I love them.

Consider a rustic bouquet of faux sunflowers, eucalyptus branches, or autumnal berries as a centerpiece or accent on your coffee table.

I had so much fun arranging these flowers in our living room. Aren’t they gorgeous?

Throws and Blankets

Drape a few throws or blankets over your sofas and chairs to encourage snuggling on cooler evenings. Opt for chunky knit blankets or plaid throws that complement your chosen color palette.

Candles and Lanterns

Create an enchanting ambiance by placing scented candles in earthy fragrances like pumpkin spice, cinnamon, or sandalwood. For added visual appeal, consider displaying candles in lanterns or hurricane vases.

Incorporate Natural Elements

Fall is all about celebrating the beauty of nature, so bring the outdoors in with natural elements:

1. Pinecones and Acorns:
Collect pinecones and acorns from your yard or nearby park and arrange them in decorative bowls or baskets. You can even add a touch of metallic paint to add a bit of shimmer.

2. Branches and Twigs:
Gather branches and twigs to create a rustic arrangement in a tall vase. You can enhance the look by hanging mini pumpkins or string lights among the branches.

3. Seasonal Fruit and Vegetables:
A bowl filled with apples, pears, or mini pumpkins can add a burst of color and a hint of harvest charm to your living room. Don’t hesitate to add them to the center of your tables too!

Play with Patterns and Textures

Fall decor is all about layering textures and patterns to create a cozy and inviting space.

1. Mix Designs
Introduce plaid or floral patterns through throw pillows, blankets, placemats, or even table runners. These patterns exude a rustic, country-chic vibe.

2. Woven Baskets:
Woven baskets not only add texture but also offer practical storage for blankets, magazines, or extra throw pillows.

3. Rich Fabrics:
Consider incorporating rich fabrics like velvet, suede, or faux fur into your decor. These materials instantly add a sense of luxury and comfort.

Create a Focal Point

Create a Gathering Area
If you have a fireplace, the mantel is an ideal spot for a fall-themed display. Arrange a mix of candles, pumpkins, and garlands to create a charming focal point.

You could also choose a specific area of your living room to serve as a focal point for your fall decor. This dining table has color, and character, and is incredibly inviting. The colors in the art on our Frame TV tie in the entire room.

Coffee Table Centerpiece
Deck out your coffee table with a stunning centerpiece. Arrange faux flowers, candles, and seasonal accents in a decorative tray or basket.

Accent Wall or Gallery
Consider creating an accent wall featuring fall-inspired artwork, prints, or even a gallery wall with botanical-themed pieces.
