How to Use Place Cards to Set a Thanksgiving Table
I had so much fun creating this table and I am excited to share with you how to set a Thanksgiving table. These place cards are my favorite and I love how great they look on my table.
Would you believe that Thanksgiving Day is only 42 days away? That is hard for me to believe since it was 99 degrees today. Hopefully, fall weather will arrive in Southern California soon so I can focus on my menu and creating new recipes for Thanksgiving. Today I am going to share how you can use place cards to set your Thanksgiving table.
I have also teamed up with some bloggers to share our favorite place cards for a Thanksgiving table. I used four different place cards for this table setting which my daughter-in-law Charlotte and I made on my Cricut. They can be purchased from Charlotte on her Etsy account.
I can’t decide which is my favorite place card. Maybe the pumpkin? Or the script one? I really love them all.
Five Steps to Set a Thanksgiving Table
There are five simple steps that I use to set a Thanksgiving table. Actually, I use them to set almost every table I create. They are so simple and easy to follow.
#1 – Use What You Already Own
Whenever I am going to set a table, I start off by searching everywhere in our home and butler’s pantry for items I can use.
You probably recognize almost everything on my table as I have used it before. While looking through my house, I chose the basket first, which I bought a few weeks ago from Through the Porthole. (Just so you know, it’s an old military pigeon birdcage.) I found the gorgeous leaves at JOANN over a month ago. I bought the plates online last summer and the copper chargers are from Amazon. The copper silverware is from Antique Farmhouse.
The oldest item on this table is the polka dot glasses. They are from Martha Stewart and I bought them twenty years ago at KMart. I did! They were very inexpensive. I wonder if their age makes them vintage? Haha.
#2 – Set a Theme
I love picking a theme for my table setting. The theme for this Thanksgiving table is copper, although I am guessing you already figured that out. Over time I have collected a lot of copper table setting items. The last thing I needed was matching place cards so that’s why we made them.
#3 – Get Creative and Make Something – Place Cards
I love creating things and using my Cricut has been one of my favorite ways to craft this year. I have created place cards for almost every party I have hosted this year.
These are the two new ones. Aren’t they adorable?
You likely noticed my kid’s names are all over these. Why not? They will be home soon for the holidays.
I think I want an entire set of these pumpkin place cards for my Thanksgiving table this year. I just love them!
These are two styles of place cards I made previously. They can be purchased here.
#4 – Consider the Menu
Don’t forget to think about your menu when you are setting the table. Are you setting a buffet elsewhere? Or will there need to be room on the table for the food? At a minimum, you should have extra gravy, cranberry sauce, water, and wine at the table or on a buffet nearby. If you are serving multiple types of wine, don’t forget that you might need extra wine glasses.
For dessert, are you serving pies, and are they placed nearby? Are the dessert plates available to be used? Is the coffee pot ready to be turned on as soon as you and your guests have finished eating?
#5 – Relax and Enjoy
Dinner parties and holidays are so special. So make sure you don’t overdo it. When your guests offer to help, say yes. Prepare your desserts and as many menu items as you can the day before. Don’t forget to enjoy your own party!
I have a few more photos to share. (I took so many, yikes!)
I just love the colors for fall in our dining room this season.
