Fall Porch Decor Ideas

Fall is such a gorgeous time of year. Fall porch decor is one of my favorites. All of the rich reds and oranges signal that fall is here!

The leaves are changing, the weather is getting cooler and pumpkin spice everything is back in season! Whether you’re looking for a few simple ideas or want to go all out with a theme, read on for some inspiration.

I love to decorate our back porch. And why is that? I think the colors of the brick, the yard, and the sunshine always make my photos look good (it’s not me!). I have so much fun adding fall porch decor that I now add decor out here every season.

We haven’t spent as much time out here lately because of the heat. And the mosquitos!

Seriously though,  why do we suddenly have so many mosquitos? We have never seen anything like it! But the evenings are cooling off and I can’t wait to dine out here nightly.  Because cooler air means fewer mosquitos.

This gorgeous wreath on the fireplace is from Balsam Hill and it’s from last year. I love that I finally figured out how to hang it. I used copper-colored wire and strung it from the lattice on each side of the fireplace. You can’t see the wire which means my efforts were a success.

I found the wicker basket at the Ventura Vintage Flea Market last week. It cost me only $5 and I love how it looks filled with pink pumpkins! All I did was fill the basket full of towels, add some faux eucalyptus and top it with a few pumpkins. The basket is perfect for fall porch decor.

I made the centerpiece using faux flowers from TJMaxx and an old sap bucket I bought at a flea market a few years ago. It’s a simple arrangement and I love it. Now it’s time to share a trick I use when I make flower arrangements. I would love to know if any of you do this too.

A Trick for Arranging Faux Flowers

These florals came with magnolia leaves and the most gorgeous faux hydrangeas. They are very tall and even though the bucket I used is short, I don’t cut the stems.

Bending them makes them reusable for a vase of a different height.

To get the height of the stem correct, measure along the side of the vase/bucket to determine the height, and then bend the stems. I often just create a triangle and fit each stem in the vase. Please note, that if you are using a glass vase, the bent stems will show.

Also, don’t bend the stems too tightly because you will want to be able to reuse these faux flowers again in a different-sized vase. To preserve the stem “unbend it”, and thenrebend it to the perfect height in your next arrangement.

Within minutes, my bucket is complete with flowers. Isn’t it wonderful? The colors of the hydrangeas get me every time!

How do you decorate outdoors in the fall?

Fall colors are so inspiring and can easily provide inspiration on how to decorate for fall. Seasonal fall items are great and you can use mums, dried corn, cabbage, kale, and hay. Cornstalks are great for height. Don’t feel that you have to only use orange decor. As you can see from this post, there are some gorgeous colors that work well for fall that aren’t orange. Such as pink!

When should I decorate my house for fall?

The best option to set up your fall decor is September or October. Some people opt for late August. It is appropriate if you want to get a head start. If your temperatures are still warm, start with faux items that can stand the heat.

If you look closely, you can actually see the copper wire I used to hang the wreath in the photo above. Copper is a much better color to use on brick than green floral wire.

I would love to know what you think about the fall porch decor I added to our back porch.
