Christmas in July

I know what you are thinking … Christmas in July! But I love thinking about the holidays and realizing they aren’t that far away. (Especially for those of us that put up our holiday decor in October!)

Small Christmas Trees

I couldn’t let the month of July slip away without sharing a post about Christmas in July.

If there was ever a year that it was ok to talk about Christmas in July, then this is it. Everyone has been through so much and many of us are wondering when and if this “crazy lifestyle” will ever end.

So today I am bringing some Christmas cheer in my blog post.

I mean, why not?  We all deserve it!

What exactly is Christmas in July?

I promise you it wasn’t started by the retailers trying to get to shop early (as in Black Thursday, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and more).

Christmas in July is a phenomenon observed in the southern hemisphere, where people in places like Australia and New Zealand opt to celebrate the holiday in the months when the weather is more like December. It’s a great concept and I am happy to celebrate it today!

The coming holiday will be my fourth Christmas as a blogger.  Why does that matter?

Because before blogging I had two large boxes of Christmas decor.

And now I have a gazillion.  At least.

To be more specific, 2017 was my first Christmas as a blogger and home decor Instagrammer. When I pulled out our Christmas boxes, we really only had two boxes of Christmas decor. That’s it!

But when I took everything down a month later, I had 14 boxes.

The good news is I love to come up with craft projects and the holidays are the best time for crafts.

The first thing I learned as a blogger was that you need to decorate a lot of rooms in your home. Not just your living room, dining room, and family room. You need to decorate the bedrooms, the craft room, the back porch, and more.

I honestly did not know that. Hence, the reason why I only had two boxes of Christmas decor.

Over the past few years, we have used red and green decor. I think our home lends itself to red and green, or red or green decor.

By far the most popular holiday photo on my Instagram and Pinterest is this one:

I also love this one.

My favorite holiday DIY project is the clay ornaments that I made highlighting all of the special people and events that happened in our family that year.  Every single ornament means so much to me!

I have to be honest with you about the whole Christmas in July thing. At first, I didn’t get it. As I was sitting in my house with a broken air conditioner, the last thing I wanted to think about was Christmas. But, I am so glad I did this. Because after looking back at all of my photos I now know exactly what I want to do this year.

My fall color is copper. I hope to include copper in my fall decor, DIY’s, and craft projects. Here is my copper inspiration board for fall.

My Christmas decor color will be Verdigris, the color of aged copper. It’s that beautiful copper patina green color and it’s going to be gorgeous.

I put together a mood board with my Verdigris colors for Christmas.

Isn’t this fabulous? I am so excited.

See, Christmas in July is not a bad thing.

Perhaps I should also admit that I already have nine DIY’s and another eleven blog post ideas ready to create for the holidays.

That makes me so happy!

And look, these cut out trees I made last year fit my color theme perfectly. You will see these again.

Have you made any plans for Christmas?

Apparently, I have!

  1. Please share how to make the clay disc ornaments in this post? I think its a wonderful idea to add one to the wrapping of a gift as a keepsake for the recipient of a special time you remember during the previous year
