Calm Kitchen Decor for Winter
Now that the holiday season is behind us, winter is the perfect time to embrace a calmer, more serene setting in your home—starting with kitchen decor.
This past week has been difficult in Los Angeles, so I styled our kitchen for winter with one word in mind: calm. As the heart of the home, the kitchen often becomes a hub of activity, but it can also be a space of peace and comfort. And that is precisely what we need in our home right now. By incorporating soft tones, simple decor, and a thoughtful approach, you can style your kitchen for winter in a way that feels welcoming and relaxing, too.

Styling Your Kitchen Decor for Winter

Today, I am sharing how I styled my kitchen using a winter palette of blush and taupe and some understated details that bring warmth and charm to the space. I also included tips on decorating your kitchen calmly and minimally for the season.
Creating a Winter Palette of Blush and Taupe
For my winter refresh, I chose a palette of blush and taupe. These soft, muted tones bring a sense of tranquility to the kitchen, while their subtle warmth makes the space feel cozy and inviting. Winter is the perfect time to pare things down and let softer colors shine.
Blush adds a hint of uplifting color, and taupe provides a grounding, neutral balance.

Simple Touches for a Calm Winter Kitchen
Adding Ribbons to Counter Stools

One of my favorite additions this season was tying a light blush organza ribbon around each of our counter stools. The delicate bows add a touch of softness and elegance without overwhelming the space. You can tuck a small faux flower or herb into each bow to make them even more unique. This small detail makes the stools feel dressed up for the season while maintaining a minimalist vibe.

Calming Faux Florals for Kitchen Decor

I placed a simple arrangement of faux flowers on the back counter. Using blush and peach tones, the florals bring a touch of nature indoors without maintaining fresh flowers. Faux flowers are a fantastic option for winter when fresh blooms might be more challenging to find, and they can easily transition into spring decor.
Reusing Neutral Christmas Decorations

Rather than packing away all of my holiday decor, I kept out some neutral Christmas balls. Their soft shimmer adds a subtle festive touch that reminds me of our celebrated holiday season. Displaying them in a simple bowl on the counter feels understated and elegant, tying in beautifully with my winter palette.
Styling the Island for Breakfast

To make the kitchen feel extra cozy, I set up the island for breakfast with some of my favorite blush bowls and plates—what I like to call “blates.” Their combination of form and function adds a stylish touch to the table. Pairing them with neutral linens and gold utensils created a simple, inviting look.
Handmade Clay Hearts

As a nod to the season of love approaching, I made tiny clay hearts using air-dry clay, paper napkins, and UV resin. These adorable hearts are a sweet addition to the space and a reminder that February isn’t far away. I scattered a few on the island and tucked others into my decor for a handmade touch that feels personal and charming.
I will be sharing this DIY later in the week.
Tips for Decorating a Calm Winter Kitchen

If you’re inspired to create a calm kitchen for winter, here are some tips to keep your styling simple and relaxing:
Embrace a Soft Color Palette

Choose muted tones like blush, taupe, soft gray, or pale blue to bring a sense of calm to your space. Avoid bold, contrasting colors that can feel too stimulating. Instead, opt for a harmonious palette that soothes the eye.
Keep It Minimal
Less is more when it comes to winter decor. Instead of filling every surface, focus on a few key areas—like the counter, island, or open shelves—and keep the rest of the kitchen clean and clutter-free.
Use Natural and Textural Elements

Incorporate natural materials like wood, ceramic, and linen to add warmth and texture to your kitchen. Wooden cutting boards, ceramic vases, and linen napkins can bring understated elegance to the space.
I made the clay hearts pictured above last week and will share the DIY for them next week.
Repurpose Holiday Decor

Extend the life of your holiday decorations by reusing neutral or winter-inspired items. Think silver ornaments, pinecones, or soft greenery. You can seamlessly transition them into winter decor by removing overtly festive elements like red ribbons or holiday-specific motifs.
Add Functional Decor
Choose kitchen decor that’s as functional as it is beautiful. For example, display a set of pretty bowls, hang a soft tea towel on the oven handle, or fill a glass jar with winter spices like cinnamon sticks or star anise. These small touches add charm without feeling unnecessary.
Incorporate Subtle Lighting
Winter calls for soft, ambient lighting. Add a few candles to your kitchen counters, or use fairy lights in a glass jar for a cozy glow. These small lighting elements can make your kitchen warm and inviting during the dark months.
Include Seasonal Greenery
Even in winter, greenery can brighten up your kitchen. Consider eucalyptus, faux pine branches, or even a small potted herb plant like rosemary. These natural touches are fresh and understated.
Create a Seasonal Display
Designate a small area—like a corner of the counter or a section of open shelving—for a seasonal vignette. Arrange a few winter-themed items, such as a bowl of neutral ornaments, a candle, and a small vase of faux flowers, to create a focal point.
A Kitchen That Feels Like Home

Styling my kitchen for winter has been a joyful and calming experience. By keeping the kitchen decor simple, incorporating a soothing palette of blush and taupe, and using a mix of natural and personal touches, I’ve created a welcoming and peaceful space.
Adding thoughtful details, like ribbon-tied stools and handmade clay hearts, makes the kitchen feel special without being overstyled.
As we settle into the quieter winter months, I encourage you to take a moment to refresh your kitchen decor. Small changes, like adding a soft throw to a nearby chair or displaying your favorite dishes, can transform the space into a retreat from the cold. After the holiday rush, it’s a chance to slow down, enjoy the beauty of simplicity, and create a space that feels like home.
What will you do to make your kitchen calm and cozy this winter? I’d love to hear your ideas!
