Decorating the Family Room for Christmas Morning Breakfast

Tabletop Trees

The heart of my Christmas decor lies in the use of tabletop trees. Instead of the usual single, large Christmas tree, I opted for multiple small trees crafted from natural materials like pine cones and feathers, as well as faux pine.

These miniature trees, scattered throughout the room, add a whimsical and rustic charm. The pine cone trees, with their natural textures, bring an earthy feel to the space. Feather trees, a nod to old-fashioned Christmas decor, add softness and a sense of delicacy. The faux pine trees, though artificial, blend seamlessly with the natural elements, contributing to the forest-like ambiance I aimed to create.

Shiny Ornaments

Incorporating vintage elements, I displayed shiny brite glass ornaments, a classic staple of mid-century Christmas decor. These ornaments, with their unique shapes and reflective surfaces, add a nostalgic sparkle. Displaying them in glass apothecary jars and vintage compote dishes was a creative way to showcase their beauty.

Placed throughout the room, these jars and dishes become little treasure troves, filled with colorful baubles that catch the light and draw the eye.

Pillow Covers

The choice of textiles in the room further accentuates the festive theme. Plaid pillows with their traditional Christmas colors of red, green, and gold, offer a classic holiday look. White pom-poms on the pillows add a playful and whimsical touch, reminiscent of snowflakes or Santa’s hat. These pillows not only provide comfort but also serve as decorative accents that tie the room’s color scheme together.

The Table for Christmas Morning Breakfast

The main table in the family room is a focal point of our Christmas Morning Breakfast. Adorned with faux Christmas greens, it brings a touch of nature indoors. The greens, arranged in a vintage white vase, add a fresh and vibrant feel.

This simple yet elegant centerpiece is both a nod to traditional Christmas greenery and a reflection of a more modern, minimalist approach.

I added color to the table by placing Christmas balls in compote dishes and using a green cakestand to hold some freshly baked Cinnamon Apple Zucchini muffins.

In front of our frame TV, I set up a special Christmas table display. The idea was to create a scene that complements the digital art displayed on the TV, making it part of the overall decor.

The table is set with festive dinnerware, elegant glassware, and white cloth napkins, ready to welcome family and guests. This setup not only serves a practical purpose but also adds to the room’s festive ambiance.

To complete the look, I paid attention to lighting. Warm, soft lights from my “ladder chandelier” and candles create a cozy and inviting atmosphere. These lights not only illuminate the room but also highlight the decor elements, enhancing their beauty. The glow of the lights against the glass ornaments creates a magical sparkle, reminiscent of a winter wonderland.

In decorating the family room for Christmas and Christmas morning Breakfast, the key was to balance different elements – natural and artificial, vintage and modern, festive and cozy. The result is a space that feels both festive and comfortable, a perfect backdrop for making holiday memories with family and friends.

Thinking Creatively

This approach to Christmas decorating shows that you don’t need to stick to the traditional single tree or standard decorations. By thinking creatively and combining different elements, you can create a unique holiday space that reflects your style and the spirit of the season. Whether it’s through the use of vintage ornaments, handmade trees, or festive textiles, each element contributes to the overall warmth and charm of the room.
