New Fall Decorating Ideas for the Living Room
I enjoy giving our home a fresh look each season, and these fall decorating ideas made it easy to update our living room decor.
This year, I selected a color palette that brings warmth and richness to the space, mixing earthy browns, golds, and oranges. While I love to reuse many of my decor items, I added new fall decorating ideas and pieces to create a refreshed look for the season.
Fall Decorating Ideas: A New Color Palette and Decor
As we approach the fall season, I’m excited to share this new look and my methods for exploring ways to make our home feel warm and welcoming.
Seasonal decorating is more than just changing decor; it’s about creating an environment that reflects the beauty and spirit of each time of year. And for me, there’s no better way to embrace the season than by making our living room a cozy, inviting space that celebrates the essence of fall.
Choosing the Color Palette
When planning our fall decor, I always start with the color palette. This year, I was drawn to the rich tones of autumn, focusing on earthy shades of brown, warm gold, and subtle oranges.
You may recall that I created this color palette after shopping my latest Pottery Barn catalog. Once I identified the colors I love from the photo above, I settled on my fall color palette.
This means you will see these colors in my fall decorating ideas throughout our home.
These colors evoke the cozy feel of fall and add a touch of elegance to our living room. These hues work beautifully together, creating a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.
The key to a successful seasonal refresh is balancing new and existing items. I wanted to incorporate colors that would complement our furniture and decor while introducing new elements that would stand out. With this in mind, I began my decorating journey.
And I pulled out my phone and found some new items on Amazon in my new color palette!
Finding the Perfect Art for the Frame TV
One of my favorite additions to our living room in recent years has been the Frame TV. I love that it functions as a TV when needed but can display artwork that complements our decor when it’s not in use. For fall, I knew that updating the art on the Frame TV would be the perfect way to set the tone for the new season.
I searched for digital art that captured the earthy tones of my chosen color palette. After browsing various options, I found a beautiful painting with leaves of brown, gold, and hints of orange. It was the perfect match and immediately brought the warmth of fall into our living room. This simple change instantly transformed the space, making it feel more cohesive with the season.

Refreshing Pillow Covers
New pillows are one of the easiest and most impactful ways to update a room for the season. I love how swapping out pillow covers can completely change the look and feel of a space without a significant investment. For our fall update, I chose pillow covers in warm gold and brown tones to tie in with the rest of the decor.
I ordered several sets of covers to see which would work best. Most of them fit perfectly into my vision, but one set turned out to be too pink and clashed with the earthy tones I aimed for. Luckily, returning it will be easy, and it’s a good reminder that experimenting with different options is part of the process.
The pillows I kept were precisely what I envisioned. The warm gold covers added a touch of brightness and luxury, while the deep brown ones grounded the space, creating a cozy and inviting feel. Arranging them on the couch and armchairs, I could see how these new fall decorating ideas brought the entire room together.
I also pulled out some double-sided pillow covers I bought a few years ago. I love that each side of the cover is a different color!
Adding Faux Florals
I incorporated faux florals into the decor to enhance the fall vibe. I’ve always loved the look of fresh flowers, but high-quality faux florals are a more practical and long-lasting option for seasonal decor. They can be reused year after year and don’t require the maintenance that fresh flowers do.
I bought silk artificial eucalyptus stems this fall in a beautiful muted gold. The set I purchased included 12 stems, which gave me plenty of material to work with. I arranged them in three different vases around the living room: one on the coffee table, one between the two chairs, and one on a tall vintage chest.
The eucalyptus stems added a touch of nature and texture to the room. Their soft, understated color complemented the golds and browns in the pillow covers, while their tall, elegant form brought a sense of height and dimension to the space. The faux florals were the perfect finishing touch, creating a serene yet vibrant atmosphere that feels just right for fall.
Bringing It All Together
Looking back at the finished room, I was thrilled with how it all came together. The new color palette of earthy browns, warm golds, and darker oranges had transformed the living room. The updated art on the Frame TV set the tone, the new pillow covers added warmth and comfort, and the faux eucalyptus stems brought a touch of nature and elegance.
What I love most about this fall refresh is how it feels new and familiar. I created a fresh and seasonal space without being overly trendy or temporary by reusing many of the items I already had and adding just a few new pieces.
The room now has a serene, cozy atmosphere, inviting you to relax and enjoy the season’s beauty.
The Joy of Seasonal Decorating
One of the joys of seasonal decorating is the opportunity to express creativity and experiment with new ideas. Each season brings its inspiration, and I love the process of translating that inspiration into our home decor. For fall, it’s all about creating a warm, inviting space that reflects the season’s beauty.
I look forward to continuing this tradition of updating our home for each season as we move through the year. It’s a way to keep our space fresh and lively, allowing us to embrace the changing seasons fully.
Updating our living room for fall has been a rewarding experience. I created a refreshed and cozy space by selecting a new color palette and adding key pieces. The combination of warm golds, earthy browns, and vibrant oranges has brought new energy to the room, while the faux florals and updated art have added just the right amount of seasonal flair.
