How to Make Paper Flowers for Spring
My love for making paper flowers began about two years ago. I absolutely love all of these flowers and can’t wait to show you how to make some of my favorite paper flowers, white tulips!
I am slightly obsessed when it comes to making flowers. I have made peonies and poppies, and Gerber daisies and over one hundred white paper flowers for my son’s rehearsal dinner. Today I am goiong to show you how to make paper tulips.
I have always struggled with storing my paper flowers. They are kind of delicate and I want them to be seen. When I found this vintage French flower stand I knew exactly how I wanted to use it.
The stand holds 15 tin canisters for flowers. I have filled them with a lot of the paper flowers I have made and I just love this! Thee gerbera daisies were very fun to make!
Before I start my DIY, I wanted to mention that there is one gal who inspires me every month with her crepe paper flowers. Her name is Lia Griffith and she has a private membership group called Member Make, where you can find all of her designs, patterns, instructions, and Cricut cut files for ta lot of paper flowers.
I used Lia Griffith’s template and information to make these tulip flowers.
What You Need to Make Paper Tulips
- Heavy or medium weight crepe paper – I used white for petals and a light yellow for the stamen
- Lia Griffith Double-Sided Crepe Paper — Fern & Moss for leaves
- PanPastel — Dairylide Yellow or orange
- 24-Gauge White Paper-Covered Wire
- Thick Paper-Covered Stem Wire
- Aleene’s Turbo Tacky Glue
If you join the Lia Griffith Member Make program, then you have full access to the patterns, SVG cut files, and templates. Download the flower pattern.
Cut the crepe paper according to the template notes, using scissors or a Cricut cutting machine.
I love how quickly the Cricut machine cut all of these petals.
Match the petals so that you have a left and right petal.
Cut 4-inch lengths of 24-gauge white wire; place a wire between two petal halves.
Glue the petals together with tacky glue by placing glue on right petal, lay the wire in glue.
Place the edge of the left petal on topogf the glue and wire. Let dry.
Once dry, gently stretch the petals and bend the petals upward as seen in the photo below.
Cut the light yellow crepe paper 4″ high. Fold-down 1/2 inch and then fold down another 1/2 inch.
Roll the crepe paper on the outside of the green metal for the stamen.
Roll tightly on the stem and use more glue to finish the stamen.
Next, measure 3″ lengths for the filaments.
Dip the filaments in glue (about 1/2″) and let dry.
I love how realistic these are!
Next, dip the ends of the filaments in powdered pastels and set aside. Don’t these look great?
Assemble the tulips by placing three tulips around the filaments.
Secure with floral tape. Place three more tulip petals in the spaces between the first three petals and secure with floral tape.
Continue wrapping the floral tape all the way down the stem. Add leaves if desired.
Don’t these tulips look amazing?
I can’t wait to add them to my French vintage flower stand.
I just love my Fifteen flowerpots. This is so much fun!
