Ok. If you look at these photos I know that my master bedroom and bath don’t really look that much like fall. But can I just say, I love them!

Compared to how our bedroom use to look (oh how I hate even putting this photo in here!), I think the transformation is remarkable.

If you remember, last summer my husband went on a trip back east for four days to play at volleyball nationals. He rarely, if ever, travels on his job so I decided to surprise him with two home makeover projects; our master bedroom and back porch.

Ok. I need to be honest about something. I think I really just wanted to do all of these things while he was gone so that he wouldn’t freak out as to how much I was doing and somehow decide it wasn’t a good idea. Besides, if I make a big deal that the surprise is for him and that I worked really hard for him, how can he not be thrilled?

It worked.A4D9B2DB-30A6-47B9-B9CA-6AE6AE88070D

The funny thing is for weeks before his trip I was accumulating the following things in our bedroom:

  • Two new 8” x 10” rugs
  • Two chandeliers
  • Two bedside tables
  • All new bedding
  • Vintage patio furniture
  • Boxes of marble tile to redo the fireplace
  • A vintage door that I turned in to a headboard
  • Two bedside lamps
  • A six-foot bench for the end of our bed

And he told me he never once noticed a single item that I had stashed in the back of our living room. Aren’t I just remarkable?

And sneaky?

The good news is we both love our new master bedroom. Dave especially loves the bench. The two white chairs actually were originally in our living room. I moved them up here when I thought the living room looked too crowded. They fit perfectly here!

I also wanted to share a few photos of our master bath. All I did here was buy new towels and rugs and hang one of my oil paintings on the wall.

All in all, it was a successful surprise.

  2. It’s all very beautiful. You might consider turning your rug 45 degrees under your bed so that the long edge goes side to side so that allowing each person more rug under their feet. That’s what I did and it looks great.

  4. Leslie,
Hello.. Wonderful job on your home!
I am working on designs for my new (old 1896) farmhouse in NC.
I am wondering does your master bath have two sinks?
I love the layout and it seems the same size area as I have to work with..

    Have a great day!
