Christmas in July
I know what you are thinking … Christmas in July! But I love thinking about the holidays and realizing they aren’t that far away. (Especially for those of us that put up our holiday decor in October!)
I couldn’t let the month of July slip away without sharing a post about Christmas in July.
If there was ever a year that it was ok to talk about Christmas in July, then this is it. Everyone has been through so much and many of us are wondering when and if this “crazy lifestyle” will ever end.
So today I am bringing some Christmas cheer in my blog post.
I mean, why not? We all deserve it!
What exactly is Christmas in July?
I promise you it wasn’t started by the retailers trying to get to shop early (as in Black Thursday, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and more).
Christmas in July is a phenomenon observed in the southern hemisphere, where people in places like Australia and New Zealand opt to celebrate the holiday in the months when the weather is more like December. It’s a great concept and I am happy to celebrate it today!
The coming holiday will be my fourth Christmas as a blogger. Why does that matter?
Because before blogging I had two large boxes of Christmas decor.
And now I have a gazillion. At least.
To be more specific, 2017 was my first Christmas as a blogger and home decor Instagrammer. When I pulled out our Christmas boxes, we really only had two boxes of Christmas decor. That’s it!
But when I took everything down a month later, I had 14 boxes.
The good news is I love to come up with craft projects and the holidays are the best time for crafts.
The first thing I learned as a blogger was that you need to decorate a lot of rooms in your home. Not just your living room, dining room, and family room. You need to decorate the bedrooms, the craft room, the back porch, and more.
I honestly did not know that. Hence, the reason why I only had two boxes of Christmas decor.
Over the past few years, we have used red and green decor. I think our home lends itself to red and green, or red or green decor.
By far the most popular holiday photo on my Instagram and Pinterest is this one:
I also love this one.
My favorite holiday DIY project is the clay ornaments that I made highlighting all of the special people and events that happened in our family that year. Every single ornament means so much to me!
I have to be honest with you about the whole Christmas in July thing. At first, I didn’t get it. As I was sitting in my house with a broken air conditioner, the last thing I wanted to think about was Christmas. But, I am so glad I did this. Because after looking back at all of my photos I now know exactly what I want to do this year.
My fall color is copper. I hope to include copper in my fall decor, DIY’s, and craft projects. Here is my copper inspiration board for fall.
My Christmas decor color will be Verdigris, the color of aged copper. It’s that beautiful copper patina green color and it’s going to be gorgeous.
I put together a mood board with my Verdigris colors for Christmas.
Isn’t this fabulous? I am so excited.
See, Christmas in July is not a bad thing.
Perhaps I should also admit that I already have nine DIY’s and another eleven blog post ideas ready to create for the holidays.
That makes me so happy!
And look, these cut out trees I made last year fit my color theme perfectly. You will see these again.
Have you made any plans for Christmas?
Apparently, I have!

Just beautiful, Leslie!! I love the way you used red and white because it’s soft and unwashed looking. But I’m crazy in love with the neutrals in the first pic, in fact, I love those flocked trees as is, with no adornment!! You just inspired me… 🙂
Absolutely loving the neutral look this year! Beautiful!
I think the red and white is going to be stunning in your home, Leslie!!
Love the grain sack tree skirt!! Where did you get the grain sacks from? I’m dying to make this ????
Always love red and white..will never go out of style…even with all the “neutral” themed christmas decor..love it Leslie…bring red back!!
I wondered why most of the lifestyle bloggers I follow had jumped over Halloween and Thanksgiving, both fun holidays for which to decorate, to post about Christmas. Hopefully, you’ll all back up now and shower us with wonderful and creative ideas for these autumn holidays. I love your color scheme, by the way, and look forward to seeing how you put things together for Christmas.
Thank you Teddee! I will have many projects to share over the coming months 🙂
Love the copper and the verdigris
Can’t wait to see the Christmas projects- I’m already thinking of a few myself but love to see others’ inspiration !
So great, Kay. It is never too early!
Beautiful fall and Christmas boards! With your home being as neutral as it is, any color scheme fits right in. I do love the verdigris for Christmas this year.
Thank you so much, Miche!
Excited for your upcoming holiday crafts! You always have the best ideas! Was wondering if you wouldn’t mind sharing where you got the tall BALL drinking glasses on your first dining room photo? Such a pretty tablescape!
Love this! Copper is gorgeous as is that verdigis! Is there a tutorial for those sweet little ornaments? I’d love to do that with my daughter!
Love copper and the verdigris patina’s! Can’t wait to see your 2020 Christmas!
I can’t wait to share!
I think a lot of us decide before we take one year down the color scheme for next year. I got next years inspiration from Inspired By Charm. I need to go back and refresh but one color is citrine, which I have none, I think the other gold. I have plenty of that and a lot of ambers.

Thank you Barbara!

I’m excited to see your crafts. I love Christmas and start thinking about it right after Easter.
That is so great, Cindy! It is never to early 🙂
Well that’s just awkward, you can delete one. Christmas just gets me so excited!🤗🥰🎄
Christmas in July isn’t just for the Southern Hemisphere- where I grew up – in a summer vacation area on the North Coast of the States, on Lake Erie in Ohio we had many people who lived there all summer. For just the summer. They made lifelong summer friendships with people whom came up for their summers as well. And they celebrate a July Christmas together – decorate their cottages, boats – even the local businesses go all out.
On a happier note – love your ideas, and what you showed looks awesome.
Wow, that really is incredible. Thank you for sharing, Michele!
Christmas is my favorite holiday (tied with my birthday) and I LOVE your colors and sweet decorations. Totally inspired by your Verdigris theme!
Haha of course! Thank you so much.
