At Last! Healthy Coffee Creamer Recipes
After incorporating a lot of healthy lifestyle changes, I am finally making a huge change by making and drinking healthy coffee creamer.
I haven’t eaten dessert for 8 years, I try to workout four days a week, I bike every week, and yet there was one change I refused to make … my flavored coffee creamer. Until now. Here are my homemade healthy coffee creamer recipes.
Is Coffee Creamer Bad for You?
Flavored creamers have become a staple in many coffee lovers’ morning routines, offering a convenient way to add sweetness and flavor to their brew.
Including mine!
I love the Starbucks Carmel Macchiato creamer and years ago switched over to dairy-free. But sadly, it’s still not very healthy.
Why Flavored Creamer is Not Healthy
High Sugar Content
The first one is pretty obvious. Many flavored creamers are laden with added sugars to enhance their taste. Consuming high amounts of added sugars has been linked to various health issues, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.
Caloric Density
To make it worse, even small servings of flavored creamer can pack a significant caloric punch. Consuming excess calories from flavored creamers on a regular basis can contribute to weight gain and hinder your overall health goals.
Artificial Ingredients
Flavored creamers often contain artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives to achieve their desired taste and appearance. These additives may have adverse effects on your health and are best avoided.
Lack of Nutritional Value
Flavored creamers offer little to no nutritional value. They are typically low in protein and other essential nutrients, contributing empty calories to your diet without providing any substantial health benefits.
Potential for Additive Dependence
This one scares me the most. Regular consumption of flavored creamers can lead to a reliance on their artificial sweetness and flavor, making it challenging to enjoy the natural taste of foods and beverages without added additives.
Ok, that’s scary.
Creating Your Own Healthier Alternatives
If you aren’t ready to make your own creamers you can try some other ideas. Replace flavored creamers with simpler, healthier alternatives such as unsweetened almond milk or coconut milk, plain yogurt, and unsweetened coconut cream.
Use natural sweeteners such as pure maple syrup, honey, and stevia extract.
Use flavor enhancers such as pure vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, or cocoa powder.
Homemade Coffee Creamer
I finally decided to try to make my own flavored creamers using wholesome ingredients. My sons have been telling me for years that homemade creamers made with natural ingredients provide essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, contributing to your overall health and well-being.
And I kind of got tired of the guilty looks I received every time I poured the flavored creamer in the plastic bottle into my coffee.
Creating your own creamers allows you to tailor the flavor and sweetness to your liking, ensuring a personalized coffee experience every time. Plus they can be more cost-effective in the long run compared to purchasing pre-packaged flavored creamers from the store.
My Healthy Coffee Creamer Recipes
Caramel Macchiato Coffee Creamer
Since caramel macchiato has been my favorite coffee flavor all time, I made up a new healthier version. And this is delicious!
These ingredients are all healthier and the taste is better than the creamer I have bought for years. If you aren’t familiar with Country Crock Plant-Based foods, try them! We love the butter and this Plant Cream is a game changer!
This recipe is cooked and takes about ten minutes to make. For storage, I used these fabulous 20 oz Glass Jars with Airtight Lids.
Healthy Caramel Macchiato Coffee Creamer
This healthier version avoids refined sugars and incorporates almond butter for a creamy texture and nutty flavor. Adjust sweetness and flavorings according to your taste preferences.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Country Crock Plant Based Cream
- 1/4 cup date syrup or coconut sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon almond butter
- 1/2 teaspoon caramel extract (optional)

Coconut Almond Delight Coffee Creamer
I have loved coconut forever and thought it might be fun to make a Healthy Coconut Coffee Creamer. I always have these ingredients in the pantry so this was an easy recipe to throw together.
These ingredients are straightforward. I did end up making it twice because I thought the Almon Extract was way too strong so I reduced the amount in half. I have never been a fan of almond extract so if you like it, feel free to double it up!
This recipe is also cooked over medium heat and is very easy to make.
Coconut Almond Delight Coffee Creamer
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk
- 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon agave syrup (or sweetener of choice)
- 1/4 teaspoon almond extract

- In a small saucepan, combine coconut milk, almond milk, and coconut oil.
- Heat over low-medium heat until the mixture is warmed but not boiling.
- Stir in agave syrup and almond extract until well combined.
- Allow the mixture to cool and place in a blender to thoroughly mix.
- Store in the refrigerator.
Oatmeal Cookie Coffee Creamer
I made this Oatmeal Cookie Coffee Creamer coffee recipe for my husband. And it is so delicious.
The recipe doesn’t use any oatmeal but the applesauce does the trick. You should use oat milk for this recipe but I used almond as I thought Dave might like it better.
This recipe is not cooked and it takes less than ten minutes to make!
Oatmeal Cookie Creamer
Ingredients
- 1 cup oat or almond milk
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce

- In a bowl, whisk together oat milk, applesauce, almond butter, and ground cinnamon.

How in the world have you not eaten dessert in 8 years? You cook dessert things all the time. Can’t you find a way to make a healthier version? Life is too short not to enjoy a dessert treat every now and then.
I sent you an email to explain why but I will share the story on Sunday Morning Coffee later this week.
It was touching. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for being here ❤️
Your don’t eat the cookies, cupcakes, pies, brownies, breads, muffins that you make?? I’ll share these creamer recipes with a friend because I drink my coffee black. Yuck adding anything to my coffee would be awful lol
Good for you! Some of us need flooring on our coffee. Including me! Hehe.
I’m sad that you haven’t enjoyed dessert in 8 years. Everything in moderation. Please allow yourself this indulgence every now and then. You’re missing out! I’m not sure I agree that using the caramel extract is a healthy option. I believe what makes up this flavoring is pure chemicals….nothing natural about it.
I sent you an email but it’s an all natural caramel extract and it’s optional in the recipe. And I will explain why I don’t eat dessert in my Sunday Morning Coffee post.
I bake and make sweets often, but I rarely indulge myself! I might occasionally take a taste or a nibble, but found that eliminating (or greatly reducing) sweets has enhanced my life beyond description. I applaud you for your healthy lifestyle and always love to hear about it. We’ve changed our eating habits so much and I love the way I feel, plus my sleep is so much better. I still enjoy a glass of wine and a bit of beef when I want to, and I do think everything in moderation is good, but sweets? I’m glad I gave that up.
This is so amazing Kristen and I absolutely agree with you! I feel so much better I’m every way. 🙌🏻☺️
Just made the Coconut and Almond creamer. It is delicious. Thanks!
Oh yay! I’m so happy to hear that!
I didn’t even know about creamers in coffee until I started following Americans on Instagram. In Australia we just add milk to our coffee, plain old milk! And no, I don’t feel like I’m missing out 🙂
It is very American- and could be fun to try! Hehe 🫣
Thank you for sharing these recipes. How long will they keep in the refrigerator?
This has piqued my interest, I wish I could give up sweets! Really looking forward to the Sunday Morning pot now. Good for you on putting your health first. Bravo!
Aw thanks so much Heather! Hope you enjoyed the post ☺️
