At Last! Healthy Coffee Creamer Recipes

|

After incorporating a lot of healthy lifestyle changes, I am finally making a huge change by making and drinking healthy coffee creamer.

I haven’t eaten dessert for 8 years, I try to workout four days a week, I bike every week, and yet there was one change I refused to make … my flavored coffee creamer. Until now. Here are my homemade healthy coffee creamer recipes.

Is Coffee Creamer Bad for You?

My “Former” Daily Coffee Creamer

Flavored creamers have become a staple in many coffee lovers’ morning routines, offering a convenient way to add sweetness and flavor to their brew.

Including mine!

I love the Starbucks Carmel Macchiato creamer and years ago switched over to dairy-free. But sadly, it’s still not very healthy.

Why Flavored Creamer is Not Healthy

High Sugar Content

The first one is pretty obvious. Many flavored creamers are laden with added sugars to enhance their taste. Consuming high amounts of added sugars has been linked to various health issues, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.

Caloric Density

To make it worse, even small servings of flavored creamer can pack a significant caloric punch. Consuming excess calories from flavored creamers on a regular basis can contribute to weight gain and hinder your overall health goals.

Artificial Ingredients

Flavored creamers often contain artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives to achieve their desired taste and appearance. These additives may have adverse effects on your health and are best avoided.

Lack of Nutritional Value

Flavored creamers offer little to no nutritional value. They are typically low in protein and other essential nutrients, contributing empty calories to your diet without providing any substantial health benefits.

Potential for Additive Dependence

This one scares me the most. Regular consumption of flavored creamers can lead to a reliance on their artificial sweetness and flavor, making it challenging to enjoy the natural taste of foods and beverages without added additives.

Ok, that’s scary.

Creating Your Own Healthier Alternatives

Healthy Coffee Creamer Recipes

If you aren’t ready to make your own creamers you can try some other ideas. Replace flavored creamers with simpler, healthier alternatives such as unsweetened almond milk or coconut milk, plain yogurt, and unsweetened coconut cream.

Use natural sweeteners such as pure maple syrup, honey, and stevia extract.

Use flavor enhancers such as pure vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, or cocoa powder.

Homemade Coffee Creamer

I finally decided to try to make my own flavored creamers using wholesome ingredients. My sons have been telling me for years that homemade creamers made with natural ingredients provide essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, contributing to your overall health and well-being.

And I kind of got tired of the guilty looks I received every time I poured the flavored creamer in the plastic bottle into my coffee.

Creating your own creamers allows you to tailor the flavor and sweetness to your liking, ensuring a personalized coffee experience every time. Plus they can be more cost-effective in the long run compared to purchasing pre-packaged flavored creamers from the store.

This recipe is cooked and takes about ten minutes to make. For storage, I used these fabulous 20 oz Glass Jars with Airtight Lids.

These ingredients are straightforward. I did end up making it twice because I thought the Almon Extract was way too strong so I reduced the amount in half. I have never been a fan of almond extract so if you like it, feel free to double it up!
